Slaughter to Prevail have announced details of their forthcoming album, titled Grizzly. In advance of the LP’s July 18th release via Sumerian Records, the predominantly Russian deathcore band has unleashed the single “Russian Grizzly in America.”
Grizzly is Slaughter to Prevail’s third full-length studio album, and marks the follow-up to 2021’s Kostolom. The album announcement comes after the release of five singles that are all included on the 13-track effort.
“I think this is the best album we have ever written,” stated frontman Alex Terrible. “We put so much effort into it. We spent a lot of time on every detail and really poured our souls into the songs. In the past, we were always rushing to finish albums and just releasing whatever we had. This time, we took our time, worked carefully on each track, and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it. Hopefully it was all worth it.

Like Michael or Jason, audiences can always expect American Horror Story to return with another gruesome tale. However, what if something unspeakable happened? What if there were no new season?
Honestly, horror lovers have been spoiled quite a bit over the last few decades. From broadcast and streaming to big-budget and indie films, horror has been on the rise.
That is primarily due to the tireless efforts of the talented writers behind every season of American Horror Story.
(FX/Screenshot)
The series gets a lot of grief for being a hit-or-miss with the seasonal stories.
However, if you pay close attention to conversations, you’ll notice that no one ever says the show is outright bad.

Raoul Peck, who will be at the Cannes Film Festival next month with his George Orwell documentary, “Orwell: 2+2=5,” delivered a blistering warning about the global rise of autocracy this week at documentary festival Visions du Réel, where he is guest of honor.
“Orwell: 2+2=5,” which will debut in Cannes‘ Première section, is made in collaboration with the Orwell estate and delves deep into the British writer’s final months and legacy, including his bestselling novel “1984.”
On Thursday, Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux said at the festival’s press conference that Peck’s film would look at “the strength and relevance of his ideas, and his anticipation of what will become of societies if we don’t take care of them. That was in the ’30s and ’40s. We didn’t pay enough attention to that and maybe we’re not very far from it now; that’s the thesis of this film.

Ridley Scott recalls his experience hiring 200 real skinheads to shoot Apple’s iconic "1984" Macintosh Super Bowl commercial. Directed by Scott, who was fresh off the dystopian sci-fi classic Blade Runner, the “1984” commercial debuted during Super Bowl Xviii and introduced Apple’s Macintosh personal computer. Inspired by George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, it portrays a dystopian world in which a crowd of uniformed, bald men passively watch a Big Brother-like figure ranting on a giant screen, until a lone runner, wearing a white tank top featuring an illustration of Apple’s new product, hurls a sledgehammer at the screen.
In an interview with GQ, Scott recounted his experience filming the ad, which he shot with 200 real skinheads as extras. Scott sought a visually striking audience locked into an oppressive gaze to juxtapose with athlete Anya Major's vibrant, rebellious presence. The director wanted to avoid the expense of shaving a woman's head,...

Even though Marvel has been at the forefront of the superhero movie craze, DC has produced some of the most remarkable superhero films to date. With iconic characters such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and the Justice League, it’s no surprise that their films come with a hefty price tag.
DC’s most expensive movies feature masterful lighting, spectacular fight scenes, and performances from some of Hollywood’s most famous actors. While DC films have often received mixed results in terms of financial and critical success, their production is consistently high.
Wonder Woman: 1984 Had Less Action But a Larger Budget
Budget
$200 Million
Box Office
$170 Million
The overwhelming success of Wonder Woman gave the actors in Wonder Woman 1984 the leverage to negotiate significantly higher contracts. The film featured costly set pieces and locations, including shutting down major streets in Washington D.C. for up to a week.

Let’s face it, another adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 might seem about as welcome as a telescreen in your living room. Haven’t we all had our fill of bleak, totalitarian futures? But BBC Four’s The Read is back with a version that might just make you rethink Orwell’s ever-relevant nightmare. And this time, the face […]

One of Nicolas Cage's most endearing traits is that he's an unapologetic nerd. It's all right there in the name. He was born Nicolas Kim Coppola on January 7, 1964, but when he landed his first starring role 19 years later in Martha Coolidge's "Valley Girl," he rechristened himself Nicolas Cage as a nod to the Marvel Comics character Luke Cage. Since then, he's been eager to share his love for comic books, science-fiction and horror, and has actively sought out roles in these genres and, to disappointingly little success, the Marvel movie universe (with "Ghost Rider" and "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance").
So it should come as no surprise that Cage is a self-described, hardcore Trekkie. He grew up on the original series, and he's long preferred the Trek universe in all its myriad iterations and spinoffs to "Star Wars. "I'm not really down [with Star Wars]," Cage told Variety in 2023. "I'm a Trekkie,...

Ever since Jon Stewart returned to “The Daily Show,” viewers have been wanting him to dive into the ongoing Israel-Hamas war — and on Monday night, he did just that.
During his monologue, the Comedy Central host aggressively criticized Israel’s “de-escalation through escalation” strategy, calling it out as simply “war.” “Do you even hear yourself?” Stewart yelled before trying to find the phrase in a variety of books, from the doublespeak-filled “1984” to the anti-war novel “Slaughterhouse-Five” and even “Garfield: Fat Cat 3-Pack.”
Stewart later feigned shock and humility for doing the unthinkable: criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He then paraphrased several American news pundits’ takes on the war, saying, “Criticism of the war is shameful and it gives comfort to Hamas.”
“You know who may be surprised to hear that? The Israelis, who are unbelievably critical of the war and Netanyahu,” Stewart countered.
“But still, people are...

The American Library Association (Ala) runs the Office for Intellectual Freedom (Oif) to track attempts to ban or restrict access to books across the United States, and then to inform the public about censorship efforts in our libraries and schools. The last week of September is usually the time it sets aside for its annual Banned Books Week, which celebrates the freedom to read whatever you want. And what better way to celebrate that than by watching 10 films based on banned books that also ran into censorship issues? Celebrate the freedom to watch!
From the Ala website: “In 2023, Oif documented 1,269 demands to censor library books and resources, the highest number of attempted book bans since Ala began compiling data about censorship in libraries more than 20 years ago. 4,240 unique book titles were targeted for censorship in 2023, a 65% increase compared to 2022 numbers. When American Horror Story first aired in 2011, audiences fell in love with the show for many reasons. The show has a unique and creative take on horror stories, the anthology format of each season telling a different story keeps the show fresh, and the dark nature of the show keeps American Horror Story unpredictable, as every character is disposable as each season introduces a new set of main characters. However, one of the main reasons the show was so popular was the incredible performances by Jessica Lange, who has played four different characters throughout the show's run to date.
It was this darkness, combined with character strength and Jessica Lange's incredible acting skills that made all of these characters loved by fans around the world

Herbie Flowers, a veteran bass guitarist who worked with the likes of David Bowie, Elton John, Paul McCartney and more, has died at the age of 86, according to a family Facebook post.
He died Sept. 5, though a cause of death was not listed.
“While we knew and loved him as Uncle Herbie, his musical contributions have likely touched your lives as well,” Flowers’ niece’s husband wrote online. “He played bass on many of the songs from the golden age of rock.”
Throughout his decades-long career, the British musician most notably worked on tracks like Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” (the iconic bass line of which he originated and was later sampled by such artists as A Tribe Called Quest and Haim) and Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” He also contributed to Harry Nilsson’s 1971 Nilsson Schmilsson (providing the bass line to “Jump Into the Fire”).

Netflix has picked up a film package that adapts Remarkably Bright Creatures, the wildly popular novel by Shelby Van Pelt.

Producing the adaptation will be David Levine via Anonymous Content along with Bryan Unkeless (I, Tonya) and Peter Craig, the established screenwriter of The Town and The Batman. Craig is also Field’s son.

It may be a mystery to famed director David Lynch that Patrick Stewart was an acclaimed actor when the latter showed up on the set of his 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune.
Well, sometimes directors have a clear vision of the ideal actor for a role, while other times, a happy accident can result in unexpected greatness. Such was the case with Lynch’s original 1984 Dune adaptation, in which he erroneously cast Patrick Stewart in a role that was meant for someone else.
Yes, Stewart, 83, inadvertently obtained the role of Gurney Halleck. In the process of replacing Aldo Ray at the eleventh hour, the director erroneously cast another Patrick Stewart.
David Lynch’s Dune 1984
Aside from being a financial disaster and receiving negative reviews, the film has developed a cult following over the years, and this intriguing casting mishap is just one of the many oddball tales surrounding its creation.

Netflix pressed “Start” on Netflix Games in fall 2021 — not that most of the streamer’s 247 million global subscribers know about the service, let alone play it. However, betting against Netflix hasn’t made for a lot of wins.
It would be “foolish” to “write off Netflix’s plans as non-consequential,” MoffettNathanson gaming analyst Clay Griffin wrote in a November 6 note to clients (and obtained by IndieWire). The film and TV industries once did that “at their own peril.”
Right, Blockbuster Video? Right, linear television? Right, Aaron Jacobson?

Metropolis (1927): The German film continues to inspire popular media with its dystopian premise and impressive visuals. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956): This classic sci-fi movie coined the phrase "pod people" and influenced numerous adaptations and similar stories. Blade Runner (1982): Ridley Scott's film raises questions about the advancement of technology and its potential to mimic human life, reflecting society's current concerns.
There have been a handful of sci-fi films that have influenced how people perceive and interact with the world around them. Cinema and stories in general have always had a way of shaping public opinions and conveying ideas to their audiences. Nineteen Eighty-Four, the works of Shakespeare, and Frankenstein are just a few that continue to be studied, and provide inspiration many decades after they were first released.

Do you need a tagline for a film when you can simply slap “banned in X countries” on the trailer? The allure of forbidden movies and music speaks for itself, more so today in an age of “industry plants” and faked social media stunts. You’ve probably heard of the Streisand Effect, irrespective if you cannot remember how this sociological phenomenon got the name or who the hell Barbra Streisand is. In its simplest form, the Streisand Effect is where you accidentally amplify an event, fact, or piece of media you were trying to brush under the carpet, giving it free press.
People want to partake in the stuff they are not allowed to see, especially when it comes to movies. The vast majority of movies, regardless of quality, come and go. You’ve heard of the Oscar bump, but that pales in comparison to the recognition of having your film banned from theaters.

Many science fiction books have successfully been adapted into popular TV series, showcasing how the medium suits the genre more than film. TV adaptations often capture more detail, nuance, and depth than movies, making them ideal for bringing sci-fi novels to life. Several sci-fi books, such as Nineteen Eighty-Four, John Dies At The End, and The Girl With All the Gifts, have great potential for TV adaptations due to their compelling content and relevance.
Some of the best, most popular television series of the past few years have been based on science fiction books. From The Man in the High Castle based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, to The Handmaid's Tale based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, to The Expanse based on a series of novels by James S. A. It’s been almost 12 years to the day since Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk unleashed “American Horror Story” on the genre-loving masses. Not many of us queerdo TV fans have stuck around long enough to enjoy the ongoing “American Horror Story: Delicate,” at least judging Season 12 by the series’ earlier viewership numbers.
But even with the show’s spectacularly uneven quality and Murphy’s unfailing ability to drop the ball mid-way through a decent story, the creepy-yet-campy anthology remains an undeniable staple of horror TV and FX offerings. It’s got a smaller fanbase these days, sure. But we’re still thriving — constantly theorizing about how the seasons are interconnected and assembling some of the funniest clip compilations on the internet.
On October 5, 2011, the co-creators and executive producers known for “Nip/Tuck,” “Glee,” and more wacky dramedy classics premiered the first episode of what was retroactively titled “American Horror Story: Murder House.

After a week of calling out “Pose” and “American Horror Story” executive producer Ryan Murphy, Angelica Ross has shared her salary and claimed that Murphy cursed her out after the production team “silenced her.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she also reiterates she is done with Hollywood and reveals she is moving to Georgia and going into politics.
The dispute with Murphy happened over a series of T-shirts a crew member was wearing. Ross described the shirts as “racist” and said they contained slogans such as “Build That Wall” and “I Don’t Kneel.”
One day while Ross was trying to focus on her scene, the shirts became too much for her. She left the scene, went into a production van and vowed she wasn’t going to come out until the man took off his shirt or turned it inside out. Producer John J. Gray later told...

Kyle MacLachlan makes his return to the world of Dune in a Futurama parody episode, not in Denis Villeneuve's movie. MacLachlan's cameo in the Futurama episode pays homage to his original role in David Lynch's 1984 Dune adaptation. The cameo in Futurama works better than a cameo in Dune: Part Two as it fits the tone of the episode and avoids overshadowing Villeneuve's serious and faithful adaptation.
Kyle MacLachlan has finally returned to the world of Dune after 39 years - but it actually wasn't in Denis Villeneuve's movie. Kyle MacLachlan has been one of the most important figures in the Dune franchise since 1984, with many fans hoping that the actor could get a cameo in one of Villeneuve's Dune movies. However, this hasn't happened yet, but Kyle MacLachlan did make his grand Dune return in another form of media.

“American Horror Story” is one of FX’s most successful series to date, airing for 11 seasons (and 123 episodes) between 2011 and 2022 and winning 16 Emmys along the way. In 2008, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act was signed into law by the U.S. Congress, banning discrimination against individuals based on genetic sequences. Anyone who has ever seen the dystopian thriller Gattaca couldn’t help but chuckle, the bio-data civil rights bill written practically as a response to the sci-fi film’s plot. Sometimes, films predict the future, and every once in a while they alter the course of history.
The novels Nineteen Eighty-Four and Brave New World weren’t the first entries in the dystopian genre, but serve as the touchstones and main inspirations from which all dystopian media draws from. Fittingly, both have accurately predicted and whiffed on a few of their visions of the future.
Dystopian novels are, as their basic function, not trying to predict the future, but extrapolate on current trends. They typically aren’t designed to be commenting on the future but their own present.

A new set video reveals the return of Emma Roberts to the American Horror Story franchise after a four-year absence. Roberts first appeared in American Horror Story: Coven, memorably portraying Madison Montgomery. She's since been part of four other installments, in either major or minor roles. Following her last appearance in American Horror Story: 1984, which debuted in 2019, Roberts is among the cast for the upcoming AHS: Delicate episodes.
A new set video, shared by The AHS Zone, shows the upcoming American Horror Story: Delicate filming with Roberts front and center.

Happy 20th anniversary to Hail to the Thief, Radiohead’s most misunderstood album. If you doubt the last part of that sentence, consider the fact that Thom Yorke once described this supremely anxious, stubbornly combative music as being ideal “for shagging.” Our five brainy lads released it in the summer of 2003, two years after Kid A and Amnesiac caused a tectonic shift that changed music forever, as every fan at the time couldn’t wait to remind you. Origami Angel have announced a new mixtape, My Brightest Days, which is due on June 16th. The Washington, D.C.-based two-piece also unveiled their latest single from the project, a pop-punk tune titled “My PG County Summer.” Listen to the song below.
My Brightest Days was written throughout the summer of 2020, during the initial, stay-at-home period of the Covid-19 pandemic. The songs were then recorded during August 2022, and capture the feelings of lost innocence that Origami Angel’s Ryland Heagy and Pat Doherty were musing on.
“My PG County Summer” specifically calls out the juxtaposing cultures that color the atmosphere of America’s capital — Heagy recalls the teachers who once taught him to be grateful to be near such rich history, and then turns his observational flow in the direction of hate-stoking, abortion-protesting “travelers,” who come from all corners of the country to assert their political agendas… sometimes violently,...

Wim Wenders could be the Bob Dylan of European cinema: always around, always the same, always different. Sometimes he’ll arrive in Cannes with a documentary, like 2018’s Pope Francis: A Man of His Word, and sometimes he’ll come with a work of fiction, like his timeless 1984 Palme d’Or winner Paris, Texas. This year, he’s coming with one of each: Anselm, a 3D portrait of artist Anselm Kiefer, and Perfect Days, the story of a Tokyo toilet cleaner. Ironically, Wenders thought he’d have more time on his hands after the pandemic and moving on from his role at the European Film Academy. How wrong he was…

Nigel Kneale, creator of the cult science fiction serial Quatermass, has been commemorated by a brand new set of stamps from his native Isle of Man.
The set of six Kneale Archives postage stamps is available from the Isle of Man Post Office and covers his career right from his beginnings in the theater, and his 1949 anthology Tomato Cain and Other Stories, to his iconic science fiction work, including the dystopian The Year of the Sex Olympics (1968), ghost story The Stone Tape (1972), and horror anthology Beasts (1976).

"Starship Troopers" failed to land when it opened in November 1997. Casper Van Dien and Denise Richards were not bankable leads, and audiences expecting a conventional sci-fi epic were thrown off by the film's curious style, which is a mix of televisual soap operas and satirical militarism. Consequently, "Troopers" received a mediocre "C+" from CinemaScore and grossed just $121 million against a $100 million budget (via The Numbers).
Critics were not best pleased, either, especially Stephen Hunter, who attacked "Troopers" as a film that "presupposes" Nazism. Such literal-mindedness misses that Paul Verhoven's film is satirical meta-propaganda, not a cosmic fascist fantasy. The numerous propaganda bulletins make this clear, but the propaganda does not stop there. These bulletins are propaganda within propaganda because "Starship Troopers" can be viewed as one big propaganda piece vetted by the United Citizen Federation, the film's dystopian one-world government.

Andrew Garfield and the Tick, Tick… Boom! cast helped to bring the beloved musical to life in a geature film with stunning results. The feature directorial debut of Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tick. Tick… Boom! is the on-screen adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s semi-autobiographical musical of the same name. With a screenplay by Dear Evan Hansen writer Steven Levenson, Tick, Tick... Boom! follows Larson as he struggles with the internal turmoil of turning 30 and not achieving anything yet.
In 1990, Jonathan Larson originated the show off-off-Broadway, calling it Boho Days. Over the next three years, he performed the rock monologue, now called Tick, Tick… Boom! in different festivals, venues, and theater workshops. This caught the attention of producer Jeffrey Seller, leading him to become a fan of Larson’s Rent and bring the musical to Broadway. Following Larson’s death in 1996, Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn reshaped Tick, Tick… Boom! into a three-actor musical.

The official page of the film says that “Tetris” is a biographical drama, and yes, it is, but when you watch it, it’s more than just a memoir; it’s about the game “Tetris.” When you were a kid, for sure, you played this game, on a handheld game console and got addicted to it, but you never asked how it came about or who its author and developer was. “Tetris” confirms our obsession with games, which for the director Jon S. Baird, is poetry that magically creates synchronicity between art and mathematics to form a perfect amusement and recreation that enslaves us. At the beginning of the movie, you may trip because of the hard-core information that is thrown at you to make you aware of the chronological licensing, or should I say? Tetris-related piracy and plagiarism, but as it progresses, the pace increases, as does your...

Disney+ will move forward on two new French series, tackling questions of euthanasia with “Lambert v. Lambert,” and intimacy in the social media age with the literary thriller “Les enfants sont rois.”
Adapted from a recent page-turner by “Based on a True Story” author Delphine de Vigan, “Les enfants sont rois” (“The Children Are Kings”) follows a reality-tv has-been turned mommy vlogger who fills her social media feeds with daily updates about her two precocious children. When her older daughter disappears and is thought kidnapped, the bereft momfluencer faces a police investigation that calls into question the very existence of child.
Described in one review as a mix of “Madame Bovary” and “Nineteen Eighty-Four” that plays as a “thriller, essay and court drama,” the caustic novel spans three decades, beginning with the rise of reality TV in 2001 and ending with an epigraph attributed to Stephen King: “We had a...

Whoopi Goldberg has hit out at Fox News host Tucker Carlson over the recent controversy surrounding his handling of Capitol riot footage.
During a Fox News segment, Carlson showed surveillance footage of the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol building which downplayed the violence of the incident, presenting the riot as a peaceful protest.
Carlson claimed that media outlets and Democratic politicians had misled the public about the attack, despite real-time evidence showing rioters pushing past police barricades, smashing windows, threatening lawmakers, and storming the halls of the congressional building.
The presenter said that the “overwhelming” majority of rioters “were not insurrectionists, they were sightseers”.
During an appearance on The View on Tuesday (7 March), Goldberg addressed the controversy surrounding Carlson, comparing his coverage to George Orwell’s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
“We all saw the violent Capitol insurrection play out on live TV back on January 6 2021,” she said. “I don...

Black Mirror’s dystopian takes on technology and society have only become more relevant since 2019, and the anthology series is firmly entrenched as popular culture’s new 1984. One of the best ways to measure the impact any given movie or TV show has had upon society is to see how it has influenced the way society communicates. In that regard, it is clear that both George Orwell’s 1984 and Charlie Booker’s Black Mirror have cornered the market on using popular culture to describe disturbing real-world events.
Much like "Google it" has become the go-to vernacular for "search the internet," saying "it’s just like 1984" was the default reference for "something in society that is deeply disturbing" for decades following the publication of Orwell's novel. 1984 is still relevant today, of course. However, Black Mirror seasons 1 and 2 in particular prove that the British sci-fi series is a worthy successor in today’s tech-reliant society.
