‘Clown in a Cornfield’ Review: An Old-Fashioned Slasher That Doesn’t Take Itself Seriously
Image
In the three decades since the kids in Scream sat around explaining the rules of slasher movies, the genre has been deconstructed to the point where it can feel like there isn’t a whole lot left to subvert or satirize. And while some filmmakers are still finding fresh ways to reinvent it—most recently Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling and Chris Nash’s In a Violent Nature—there’s also a lot to be said for not getting too cute about this stuff. Eli Craig’s Clown in a Cornfield works precisely because it plays things straight, offering a nod and a wink to the genre’s rules while adhering to them in order to deliver a simple, satisfying slasher.

Based on Adam Cesare’s 2020 young-adult horror novel, the film begins with Quinn (Katie Douglas) and her father, Dr. Maybrook (Aaron Abrams), moving to Kettle Springs, Missouri. She quickly...

Image
Stars: Emily Rose Mogilner, Connor Powles, Bruno Cryan, Karolina Ugrenyuk, Fyn Phoenixx, Danielle Ronald, Steven Murphy, Kelly Rian Sanson | Written by Harry Boxley | Directed by William Stead

The stream of public domain horror continues, this time it’s E.C. Segar’s iconic sailor Popeye who gets turned into a killer. The script by Harry Boxley, who has already scripted a trio of similar films, Piglet, Mouse of Horrors and Cinderella’s Curse re-imagines him as a boy born with huge forearms and freakish strength who accidentally kills one of his tormentors leading to the death of his parents and the young lad seemingly drowning.

Years later we find out he’s still alive as he kills off a trio of obnoxious YouTubers. From there we join Tara (Emily Rose Mogilner; 500) who is about to inherit the land where the house stood so she along with her boyfriend Dylan, Nick (Bruno Cryan; Treeline Essex Girls), Kathy,...

The married couple at the center of Star Trek and A Nightmare on Elm Street
Image
There’s a razor-thin line between Star Trek and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Numerous actors and other talent have crossed from one franchise into another, including a married couple, though more on them in a few moments. There’s Leslie Hoffman, who played the hall guard in the original Elm Street fright fest and worked on both Deep Space Nine and Voyager as an actor, stunt performer, and/or stunt coordinator. Mimi Craven, who portrayed Jisa in the Voyager episode “Dragon’s Teeth,” appeared as a nurse in Elm Street 1. David Andrews, who made his big-screen debut in Elm Street 1, later guest-starred as Lorian, the son of T’Pol and Trip Tucker in an episode of Enterprise.

And the list goes on and on. Makeup impresario Mark Shostrom worked on Elm Street 2 and 3, and later won an Emmy Award for the Voyager episode “Threshold,” sharing it with Michael Westmore and several fellow collaborators.

Of all the cultural legacies that the 1990s have left us, one of the most dubious is the trend of offering contests and sweepstakes that either have no prize or were made to never be won. When the story surrounding the McMillions scandal broke in 2018, many a '90s kid was both nostalgic and insulted to discover that the Monopoly peel-and-win game presented by McDonald's restaurants had been a cleverly rigged scam. The story was potent enough to draw some attention from Hollywood, and while a proposed film version from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon has yet to materialize, the scandal was covered in an HBO docuseries, "McMillion$" in 2020.

Never mind board games; some of the most notorious no-prize contests came from the world of video games and cinema. A fair number of these weren't rigged scams like the Monopoly scandal, but rather victims of abandoned projects or bankrupt corporations.

Final Destination: Did A Survivor’s Last-Minute Decision Inspire The Iconic Horror Franchise?
Image
Did a real tragedy inspire The Final Destination? ( Photo Credit – YouTube )

What if skipping a flight could spark a billion-dollar horror franchise? That’s exactly what happened—sort of Final Destination, the now-iconic supernatural thriller, wasn’t just a twisted brainchild cooked up in Hollywood. It was inspired by a real-life story that still gives people goosebumps.

Jeffrey Reddick, the mastermind behind the franchise, looked back at how it all began during a promo chat for his movie Til Death Do Us Part (via Collider). While catching up with fans, Reddick dropped a fun little behind-the-scenes fact: Final Destination was born from an eerie article he read while flying home to Kentucky.

“I read an article about a woman who was on a flight… her mom told her not to take it because she had a bad feeling. She switched planes, and the one she was supposed to be on crashed,...

Johnny Depp The Protector: How He Stepped In To Shield Patricia Arquette From On-Set Abuse
Image
Did Johnny Depp stand up for Patricia Arquette? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

The name Johnny Depp drips with drama almost as reliably as it does with box office gold. Every now and then, controversy seems to follow him like a shadow, long before and far beyond the chaos with Amber Heard.

Legal troubles have peppered his past as well, with flashes of aggression, scuffles with paparazzi and arrests that kept tabloids fed. As recently as January 2024, he faced new heat when Lola Glaudini claimed he verbally assaulted her while filming Blow, reigniting the question of who the real Depp is behind the makeup and movie magic.

Captain Jack with a Conscience

But for every sordid headline, there’s a softer counterpoint that scrambles the narrative. This same man who’s tangled with police and courts has also lent his voice, literally, to causes that reach far beyond the red carpet. In...

Cast of horror film Another includes Heather Langenkamp and Doug Jones
Andy Chen
Last year, filmmaker Andy Chen caught a lot of attention with his short film The Spider, which put a body horror spin on the concept of Spider-Man. Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that Chen is making his feature directorial debut with a horror movie called Another – and there are a couple of genre icons in the cast! Heather Langenkamp of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Doug Jones of The Shape of Water star in Another alongside Bob Morley (The 100), India de Beaufort (Kimi), and Anna Akana (A Million Little Things).

Scripted by Chen and Alexander Hernandez-Maxwell, Another follows Joey (de Beaufort), a grief-stricken author haunted by the death of her husband, Ben (Morley), a brilliant physicist. When Ben inexplicably appears one morning, alive and well, making breakfast in their kitchen, Joey is thrust into a waking nightmare where grief, memory, and reality begin to unravel.

Zach Lipovsky teases twists and surprises in Final Destination: Bloodlines
'Final Destination: Bloodlines' viewers will immediately be "thrown for a loop".Director Zach Lipovsky - who has helmed the movie with Adam Stein - has offered some teases about the sixth installment of the horror franchise and told how the opening sequence will differ to what has come before. He told SFX magazine: “For this film, the first premonition takes place in 1969."There are lots of deaths during the premonition, which is what normally happens in the opening sequence of a 'Final Destination' movie, but we then come out of the eye of a different person in the modern day. That’s new. "For a lot of fans, I think that’s going to immediately throw them for a loop. It’s going to make them lean forward to try and figure out what’s going on.”And as the film progresses, the directors found "delight" and making...

‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Is the Type of Sequel That Would Make Wes Craven Roll Over in His Grave (And Probably Laugh)
Image
Final Destination: Bloodlines is the latest film in the Final Destination franchise and will continue the iconic franchise after 14 years! Naturally, fans are more than excited about the movie.

Although it is an attempt to rejuvinate interest in the franchise, the movie might not be without faults. These loopholes and plot holes are so weak that even iconic horror director Wes Craven would roll in his grave and laugh!

Final Destination: Bloodlines will be different

By different, we mean that the Og formula, which was there for the first five Final Destination films, will not be there in the upcoming movie. Whether the difference is good or bad, you can be your own judge.

A still from the first Final Destination | Credits: New Line Cinemas

The formula for the earlier Final Destination films was quite simple: A premonition of death, a group of people survive, and Death comes after...

20 Most Iconic Movie Villains of All Time
Image
Do you know how some movies stick with you forever? Odds are, it’s not just the hero you remember; it’s the villain who gave you chills, made your skin crawl, or maybe even made you secretly root for the bad guy. Let’s face it, a great villain makes the movie. They’re the chaos to the hero’s order, the drama behind every good plot twist, and honestly, usually the ones having the most fun.

Whether they’re blowing up cities, delivering spine-tingling monologues, or just glaring like they invented the art of menacing stares, villains are the spice of cinema. Some are evil geniuses, others are just straight-up psychos, but they all steal the spotlight in their twisted way. This list is all about those scene-stealing, nightmare-fueling, endlessly iconic bad guys (and gals) that turned good movies into unforgettable ones. So here it is: 20 movie villains...

‘Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Martin Portlock, Megan Placito, Peter DeSouza-Feighoney, Kit Green, Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna, Nicola Wright | Written by Scott Chambers, Rhys Frake-Waterfield | Directed by Scott Chambers

The most recent entry in the so-called Poohniverse, and the first one not to feature Pooh, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, has arrived. With Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel both being steaming piles of, well, poo, I was going to skip this. But surprisingly, I started hearing quite a few positive things about it.

While most of the films that director Scott Chambers, aka Scott Jeffrey has been involved with are borderline unwatchable fare like Dragon Fury, he does have the occasional entertaining effort like The Gardener to his credit, so it wasn’t entirely beyond the realm of possibility that Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare would actually be decent. Hoping for the best, I decided to give it a chance.

Jim Carrey's '90s Comic Book Movie 'The Mask' Becomes an Unexpected Hit on Prime Video
Image
Jim Carrey in the 1990s was a force to be reckoned with. The decade gave fans some of Carrey's best comedic works, including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber, The Cable Guy (which is kind of a comedy), and Liar Liar, along with more dramatic roles like The Truman Show and Man on the Moon. Amid all of those movies, Carrey also starred in two comic book adaptations. His most popular was Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever, in which he played The Riddler. But, Carrey also starred in an adaptation of a far lesser-known comic book, The Mask, and it's recently gained a second life on streaming.

The Mask is currently streaming on Prime Video, and the film is the 10th most popular movie of the week. Viola Davis' G20 still holds the top spot, with Conclave sitting in second following the recent passing of Pope Francis, and The Accountant...

Modern Remake of 'Herbert West: Reanimator' Officially in the Works
Image
One of H.P. Lovecraft's most important stories is being adapted for the big screen. Again. A new adaptation of Herbert West: Reanimator, the 1922 short story that inspired the 1985 horror comedy Re-Animator, is in the works. The film will give modern audiences a new chance to witness the sick mind of West, the scientist who develops a serum that can bring corpses back to life. Herbert West: Reanimator was one of the first literary works to include "zombies" as reanimated corpses with uncontrollable urges.

As reported by Deadline, screenwriters Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, of The Haunting in Connecticut fame, will write the script for the new project. They'll reunite with executive producer Andrew Trapani, who worked with them on The Haunting in Connecticut and also produced the horror film Winchester. A director is yet to be announced for the film.

Woodlake Entertainment is on board as the production studio behind the project.

10 Classic Movies You Didn’t Know Were Based on True Stories
Image
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and it’s strange enough to light the perfect amount of spark. There are some classic movies that we have been watching and re-watching for years that are actually based on true stories. It’s hard to believe, but all of those stem out of true incidents!

These aren’t your textbook “based-on-a-true-story” films. They’re full-blown feature films, packed with all the drama, humor, romance, horror—you name it, they have it. Some of these movies feel like the kind of stuff someone dreamt up after a weird nap, but nope, there’s a little bit of reality stitched into all of them.

Now, not everything in these films is fact-for-fact accurate, as most of them took plenty of creative liberties, but their roots are planted in real events or people. And that makes watching them hit very different. So, here’s a...

‘The Vatican vs. Horror Movies’ Is an Exceptional Work of Horror History [Book Review]
Image
What did the Catholic Church have to say about genre milestones like Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcist, and A Nightmare on Elm Street? How about transgressive horror favorites like The Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave, Ms. 45, and Cannibal Ferox? Some of the answers may surprise you, though others undoubtedly will not. Matt Rogerson explores these and many, many more in his debut book The Vatican vs. Horror Movies, a thoroughly researched and compellingly written book about the place where the worlds of horror and faith collide.

Most of us who have spent much time exploring film history have no doubt encountered entities that have often been unkind to the horror genre like the Catholic Legion of Decency, the Hays Code, the MPAA, and the British Board of Film Classification’s “Video Nasties” label. Rogerson uses a publication I was not previously familiar with,...

Neon shares emotional trailer for Mike Flanagan's emotional epic The Life of Chuck
Mike Flanagan
Well, Mike Flanagan has done it again. He's taken a Stephen King book and adapted it for the big screen, and the first trailer makes it look like The Life of Chuck is going to be a genuinely emotional epic.

In The Life of Chuck, Tom Hiddleston stars as Chuck Krantz, with the story told in reverse, sort of like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The saga begins with Chuck's death and goes back in time to his early childhood. Neon shared the official trailer, which is embedded above.

As you can see from some of the selected pull quotes featured in the trailer, critics are loving The Life of Chuck, with some even going so far as to call it the best King adaptation yet.

Hiddleston shares the role of Chuck with Jacob Tremblay, Cody Flanagan, and Benjamin Pajak. Mark Hamill and Mia Sara play Chuck's grandparents, and...

The Life of Chuck trailer: Mike Flanagan’s new Stephen King movie reaches theatres in June
Tom Hiddleston in The Life of Chuck (2024)
The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6th) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing series adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” A teaser trailer dropped online a month ago, now a full trailer has arrived and you can watch it in the embed above!

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death...

Yeti: Michael Chaves to direct survival thriller for Netflix
Marisol Ramirez, Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen, and Roman Christou in The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
Michael Chaves made his feature directorial debut with the Conjuring Universe-adjacent horror film The Curse of La Llorona, and has followed that up with the actual Conjuring Universe entries The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II, and The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is set to reach theatres on September 5th and marks the end of “phase one” of the Conjuring franchise. Now, industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Chaves is set to make his first movie that doesn’t have anything to do with The Conjuring or its spin-offs at all: a survival thriller called Yeti.

Sneider reports that Yeti was originally set up last year at Sony and Picturestart, where producer Jon Silk had a first-look deal. But Silk is now a film executive at the Netflix streaming service, so the project has moved from Sony to Netflix. It’s unclear whether...

Final Destination is one of horror history's most successful franchises, set to have another sequel coming out 25 years after the original movie's release. There's been a lot of money that's been made with the past installments of the movie series, though there could have been much more if not for one fatal flaw with the concept of an unseen "Death" as the killer.

While the types of tragedies differ, the concept of every Final Destination movie is the same: a group of would-be victims narrowly escape certain death thanks to the warning of one person who has a premonition of the event moments before it happens. However, Death doesn't like to be cheated, and an invisible force works to kill the survivors by manipulating their surrounding environments. There's no telling when and how Death might come for the characters, which adds to the suspense, though it also meant missing out on major merchandise revenue.

The Man Behind the Mask: Listen to 6 Memorable Horror Movie Theme Songs
Antonella Rose, Juliana Lamia, David Howard Thornton, Sienna Hubert-Ross, Charlotte McKee, and Elliott Fullam in Terrifier 3 (2024)
Before the days of viral memes and easily accessible YouTube trailers, marketing for genre films used to be a very different experience. Since it wasn’t guaranteed that ads would be targeted at the folks most likely to purchase a ticket, studios often had to shoot in every conceivable direction when trying to promote otherwise serious horror media. And with horror icons becoming rock stars in the ’80s and ’90s, it makes sense that this period would also see a series of licensed theme songs meant to promote our favorite movie monsters.

And now that contemporary releases like Bloody Disgusting’s own Terrifier 3 are bringing this musical trend back from the dead, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the most memorable horror movie theme songs for your listening pleasure. After all, there’s nothing like a bucket-full of blood and guts to get...

Drop Director Christopher Landon Left Scream 7, But Still Found Room To Homage A Horror Legend
Image
When Christopher Landon was announced as taking over the directorial reigns of the "Scream" franchise from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gilpin of Radio Silence, it felt like the perfect passing of the torch to a person who was always meant to be at the helm of a Ghostface vs. Sidney Prescott showdown. "Some people don't know this, but one of the reasons why I was so excited to do 'Scream 7' was because I was an intern at the company that made the original 'Scream,'" he told me during an interview with Fangoria Magazine.

It was 1995, and Landon was tasked with reading a spec horror script from an at-the-time unknown writer named Kevin Williamson. It only took him a few pages of reading before he knew he had to convince his supervisor to buy it. Becoming the director of "Scream 7" was the kind of full circle career moment Hollywood loves,...

'A Breed Apart's Grace Caroline Currey and Riele Downs Face a Wes Craven-Inspired Horror in New Image [Exclusive]
Image
One of Wes Craven's cult classics is getting a spiritual successor this summer in the form of A Breed Apart. Written and directed by The Furst Brothers, the survival horror comedy puts a new spin on 2006's The Breed, a film produced by the legendary Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream director that starred Michelle Rodriguez and followed a group of college kids on a "deserted" island where dogs were bred to kill. The new feature modernizes the concept, instead centering on a private island retreat where a group of social media influencers are confronted with man-eating beasts and forced into a deadly fight for survival that pits them against one another. We're excited to include the chilling survival flick as part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies and share a new image highlighting two of the stars who will be thrown to the hounds on...

“It Was an Incredibly Painful and Difficult Situation”: Christopher Landon Explains His ‘Scream 7’ Exit
Image
Christopher Landon doesn't harbor ill-will towards Spyglass Media Group or any of the other folks involved with Scream 7. The Happy Death Day franchise director was on deck to helm the seventh installment of the beloved slasher franchise after Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett passed over the reins following Scream and Scream VI. Shortly after Landon’s position was announced, the production went off the rails, with the firing of Melissa Barrera following a pro-Palestinian social media post which we recently learned sparked Jenna Ortega’s exit. Then, just a little over one month later, Landon stepped down from the project, leaving a big question mark over its future. Eventually, universe creator and frequent scribe, Kevin Williamson, was brought on as director, with fan favorites such as Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, Courteney Cox and more set to return.

Recently, Landon sat down with The Evolution of Horror’s host, Mike Muncer,...

Hayden Panettiere and Grace Caroline Currey Take on a Wild Pack of Dogs in ‘A Breed Apart’ Trailer [Exclusive]
Image
Hayden Panettiere (Scream VI) is digging back into her horror roots with Collider’s exclusive first look at Lionsgate’s A Breed Apart. Set for a theatrical, digital, and on-demand release on May 16, the carnage-filled horror comedy is the latest to come from brotherly directorial duo, Griff and Nathan Furst — known collectively as The Furst Brothers. Using social media as a foundation, the movie builds an ominous and thrilling story with the help of its lineup of talent which, along with Panettiere, also includes Grace Caroline Currey (the Shazam! film series), Virginia Gardner (Beautiful Disaster), Riele Downs (Darby and the Dead), Page Kennedy (Blue Mountain State), Zak Steiner (Jessica Jones), Joey Bragg (Liv and Maddie), and Troy Gentile (The Goldbergs).

Giving us a bit of backstory, the opening sequences of today’s official trailer for A Breed Apart turn the clocks back 15 years and unveils the chaos and brutal massacre that befell a Hollywood production.

Lisa Wilcox interview: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and 5 heroine looks back on her battles with Freddy Krueger
Heather Langenkamp in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
The A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has some of the best heroines of the horror genre – and my personal favorite of the Elm Street heroines is Alice Johnson, played by Lisa Wilcox in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child. JoBlo’s own Ryan Cultrera was able to catch up with Wilcox at the Ve Neill’s Vampire Weekend convention in California last month and talked with her about her encounters with Freddy Krueger and the experience of working on those classic ’80s horror films. You can hear what Wilcox had to say by checking out the video embedded above.

Directed by Renny Harlin from a screenplay by Brian Helgeland, Ken Wheat, and Jim Wheat (with Helgeland also sharing story credit with William Kotzwinkle), A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master has the following synopsis: Your fave psycho-sandman is back!

'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Reboot Will Happen, but No One Can Say When
Image
Just like Friday the 13th,A Nightmare on Elm Streetis a horror franchise that has been lost in development hell for quite some time. There have been efforts to reboot the adventures of Freddy Krueger, but New Line Cinema, the production studio in charge of the IP, hasn't moved forward with a new revival, mainly due to complex rights issues. However, according to a New Line boss, there's still hope to reboot the franchise.

Just don't expect this to happen any time soon. New Line Cinema President Richard Brener hopes that we will see Freddy back on screens, but also admitted how complicated it is. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the New Line boss answered a few questions during CinemaCon about the horror IPs currently hosted by the studio. When asked about A Nightmare on Elm Street, he sounded optimistic, but he didn't have any good news about the project.

We hope so.

A Nightmare On Elm Street: New Line Boss Shares Update On Freddy Krueger's Long-Awaited Return
Image
One, two, Freddy's coming for you Three, four, better lock your door Five, six, grab your crucifix Seven, eight, better stay up late Nine, ten, never sleep again...

Star of the much-maligned 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Jackie Earle Haley, expertly trolled fans on April Fool’s Day (see below) by posting that a direct sequel is on the way.

Most people got the joke, but Haley's post did get fans wondering about the status of the iconic horror franchise and the dream demon known as Freddy Krueger.

The Hollywood Reporter asked New Line Cinema President and Chief Creative Officer Richard Brener if a new Noes movie was in development, and was given a somewhat optimistic response.

“We hope so. It’s complicated because of the rights.”

The U.S. rights to the A Nightmare of Elm Street franchise reverted to the estate of writer-director Wes Craven...

Wes Craven at an event for Scream 4 (2011)
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 director Jack Sholder has been working on a 4K remaster
Wes Craven at an event for Scream 4 (2011)
Last year, Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Wes Craven-directed classic A Nightmare on Elm Street by giving the film a 4K Uhd release. There have been rumblings that they’re planning to follow up that release with a Nightmare on Elm Street franchise 4K Uhd box set sometime this year – and while such a set hasn’t been officially announced, there are promising signs that it’s actually happening. Six months ago, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare director Rachel Talalay revealed on social media that she had been working on “regrading” that film. Now, A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge director Jack Sholder has confirmed that he’s working on a 4K remaster of his movie as well!

Sholder wrote on Facebook, “I just spent last week on the Warners lot working on the restoration of Nightmare on Elm Street...

New Line Cinema: looking forward to “phase two” of the Conjuring Universe and still hoping for more A Nightmare on Elm Street
Image
We’ve been hearing that the Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. Some months ago, producer James Wan took to social media to share a picture of the chairs meant for franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga on the set of the film, writing, “Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.“ Production on the sequel has since wrapped – and while we wait for the marketing to start, New Line Cinema Cco Richard Brener has revealed that this isn’t the end of the Conjuring Universe. It’s actually just the end of “phase one,” and the studio is looking forward to “phase two.” Brener also admitted that New Line Cinema, which is...

Tom Hiddleston grooves in his universe in the new poster for The Life of Chuck
Image
The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. Neon has released a new poster of The Life of Chuck, which evokes a mysterious, but beautiful journey into an introspection of life.

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

Tom Hiddleston (Loki) is playing Chuck, with Mark Hamill (Star Wars) playing a character named Albie.

Blumhouse is bringing some highly anticipated horror sequels our way this year. The first of the bunch is M3GAN 2.0, which is set to reach theatres on June 27th. The Black Phone 2 follows on October 17th, then Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will help wrap up 2025 with its December 5th release. The Universal panel was held at the CinemaCon event today, and during the panel, Blumhouse was given the chance to promote all three of these upcoming sequels.

The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in 2023. The first film’s director, Emma Tammi, is back at the helm for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, working from a screenplay she wrote with Seth Cuddeback and video game creator Scott Cawthon. Josh Hutcherson returns for the sequel to play former security guard Mike Schmidt,...

First Footage From 'Black Phone 2' Teases "Pure Nightmare Fuel" Sequel
Image
We're still six months away from the release of Scott Derrickson's Black Phone 2, but for those wondering how Ethan Hawke's The Grabber will fit into things, the wait is finally over. Fans will recall that the villainous child killer met his demise at the hands of Finney (Mason Thames) at the end of the first movie, so when the horror sequel was announced, it left many to question which direction the franchise would take. It appears as if it's taking at least some of its cues from another iconic series: A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Though the first footage for Black Phone 2 was shown behind closed doors and has yet to make its way online, Discussing Film was on hand at CinemaCon to provide fans with a description, noting that it began with a haunting rendition of Alice in Chains' "The Rooster." Finney is now living a gloomy existence,...

'The Conjuring' Is Becoming a Marvel-Esque Franchise With Future "Phases"
Image
Beignning back in 2013, The Conjuring Universehas since become a vast array of horror entries...and it sounds like things are only going to get more vast. The first film, directed by James Wan, introduced audiences to the paranormal investigator coiuple, the Warrens, while laying the groundwork for spin-offs and the franchise to come. These plans have since paid off, with The Conjuring becoming a major horror franchise that's going to get bigger and bigger. According to New Line Cinema boss Richard Brener, there will be plenty more Conjuring-related movies to come, and even teased the idea of the series becoming a Marvel-like franchise.

Horror fans will surely be pleased with the latest statements by Brener, President and Cco of New Line Cinema, the studio behind the Academy Award-winning franchise The Lord of the Rings, and icons of horror like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead and Final Destination. In...

The Conjuring: Last Rites is only the end of 'phase one'
Image
The Conjuring: Last Rites was supposed to be the final chapter for the $2 billion franchise, but according to the president of New Line Cinema, Richard Brener, the upcoming film will only mark the end of "phase one."

Brener sat down to chat with The Hollywood Reporter about what's coming next for Warner Bros. Discovery. When explicitly asked about The Conjuring's future, he described Last Rites as just the last entry in the first phase, although there is no information to share on phase two, which the director says is "Tbd."

In short, Last Rites is almost definitely not the last movie we will see in The Conjuring Universe, although it does appear to be the real sign-off for stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The pair have been playing the fictionalized versions of real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren for over a decade, and both shared touching Instagram tributes after filming wrapped.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot's Freddy Krueger Actor Trolls Fans With Fake Sequel Announcement
Image
2010's A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most polarizing horror movie remakes, and that's not lost on actor Jackie Earle Haley. On April 1, Haley took advantage of the April Fools' Day fun by posting that he was returning as Freddy Krueger for a sequel to his reboot 15 years later.

Sharing an image of the poster for his Nightmare on Elm Street movie on X, Haley wrote, "As most of you already know... It's official: Warner just green lit Noes 2026. Super pumped and excited to don the glove again... 1, 2, guess who's coming for you..." Haley then wrote a comment on the post afterward to add, "April Fools."

New Line “Hopes” to Make Another ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Movie: “It’s Complicated”
Image
Jackie Earlie Haley celebrated April Fool’s Day by posting that a sequel to the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street had been greenlit.

It was a prank, of course, but it begs the question: 15 years removed from the last entry, what is the status of Freddy Krueger?

The Hollywood Reporter asked New Line Cinema President and Chief Creative Officer Richard Brener if a new Elm Street was on the horizon.

“We hope so. It’s complicated because of the rights,” said Brener.

The response is not surprising, but New Line — often referred to as “The House that Freddy Built” — has not publicly commented on Elm Street in some time.

The U.S. rights to the property reverted to the estate of writer-director Wes Craven back in 2019, but New Line maintains the international rights. We’ve heard that the estate was taking pitches, but they need New Line on...

Director Jack Sholder Confirms ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 2’ 4K Restoration Is in the Works
Kim Myers and Mark Patton in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and a new 4K restoration is in the works under the supervision of director Jack Sholder.

“I just spent last week on the Warners lot working on the restoration of Nightmare on Elm Street 2. The remastered 4K picture off the original 35mm negative looks fantastic, and I was able to make adjustments and corrections only possible thanks to the incredible digital tools now available,” the filmmaker wrote on Facebook.

“The original mono mix from 42 years ago was brought into Dolby Atmos and blew me out of my seat. I heard things in Chris Young’s score I never knew were there and that, combined with some added sound fx work, really lift the film into another dimension. We were careful not to change the look and feel of the film, but even the rather lame scene...
