Fans got their first look yesterday at director Francis Lawrence's adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk, and today, we have the incredible first trailer for the film that's set to release on September 12, 2025. Written by Jt Mollner (Strange Darling), the dystopian thriller tells the tale of a group of teenage boys competing in an annual contest where they must maintain a certain walking speed or get shot.
Starring the likes of Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill, the first trailer for The Long Walk (seen below) is an unflinching and intense look at what we can expect come September. Set to the tune of Shaboozey's "Last of My Kind," we obviously catch several glimpses of the young cast as they trek along the highway, and see what happens to them when they slow to below 3 mph.

This post contains spoilers for "Golden Years."
It makes sense that a prolific author like Stephen King has inspired countless adaptations of his work since Brian De Palma's "Carrie" graced everyone's screens in 1976. Since then, King has been personally involved in several adaptation projects, but his relationship with CBS' "Golden Years" is a unique one. For starters, "Golden Years" (Aka "Stephen King's Golden Years") is not based on a book, but is an original miniseries created and written by King in collaboration with Josef Anderson. It wouldn't be surprising if you haven't heard about the show at all; it aired between July and August of 1991 and didn't receive rave reviews or enough sustained viewership to warrant a reputation of any kind. The original plan was for it to lead up to a regular series, but CBS refused, which led to the seven-part miniseries ending on a cliffhanger.

The 1980s werewolf movie Silver Bullet was panned as a complete howler by many critics on its release, but fans of the cult classic werewolf movie starring Gary Busey and Corey Haim from the mind of Stephen King can now stream the movie for free. The horror film from 1985 is now part of Tubi's extensive library of scary movies, although the scares in this one are admittedly few and far between. However, that doesn't mean Silver Buller isn't worth a rewatch.
Other horror titles arriving on Tubi include four Insidious movies, both Grindhouse movies by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, the zombie feature starring Brad Pitt, World War Z, and the "alligators act like sharks" movie, Crawl, among others. However, if you're in for a Stephen King marathon, Tubi also offers adaptations like Children of the Corn, two Carrie movies, the author's directorial effort Maximum Overdrive, and Creepshow 2.

You tend to notice a lot of familiar names, places, and events throughout the work of Stephen King, and that's by design. The horror maestro has carefully constructed a universe that ties most of his iconographies within the same plane of existence, especially if they involve the words "Castle Rock" or "The Dark Tower." In this case, that kind of interconnectivity also presents an opportunity for fans to impart their own head canon not just with King landmarks, but other pop culture mainstays as well.

At times, the latest Disney+ streaming series money grab, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, feels like a grand family adventure. The story is fun, the special effects are spectacular, and the series doesn’t take itself too seriously. Of course, it helps that Jude Law revels in the lead role and proves he can be both a protagonist and an antagonist, Aka the “anti-hero.”
On the other hand, the series is so invested in marketing toward children that it almost doesn’t seem like it belongs in the world of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, or Ahsoka. This removes the stakes because we know Disney won’t kill off any child in the main cast.
However, what Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has that others don’t is a considerable amount of heart.

Scott Hicks' 2001 supernatural drama "Hearts in Atlantis" should have been a big hit. Based on a novel by Stephen King, the movie blended the author's bent for 1950s and 1960s nostalgia with his knack for mysterious fantasy. Told in flashback, "Hearts" tells the story of a 12-year-old named Bobby (played by eventual "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin) who is largely neglected by his self-absorbed mother (Hope Davis) and who spends his idle summer days with his two best friends, Carol (Meeka Boorem) and Sully (Will Rothhaar). To make ends meet, Bobby's mom takes on a lodger named Ted Brautigan (Anthony Hopkins) and Bobby soon learns that Ted has some kind of psychic power. He can read minds, and make objects float.
Ted explains calmly to Bobby that he has to keep the powers secret, as he is being pursued by people he calls "Low Men." Unusually, Ted's superpowers aren't the center of the film's plot,...

For many decades, Stephen King's novels and short stories have been adapted into hit movies and TV shows. Iconic movies such as The Shining, Carrie, and The Green Mile were adapted from King's stories. Over the years, fascination with the worlds and characters created by Stephen King has not ceased. It's possible that the books of Stephen King have become more popular than ever before with the rise of streaming services.
Stephen King adaptations have always been very popular on streaming services. However, months ago, one of the best TV shows based on King's work was removed from the Disney-owned Hulu. Recently, the 2016 miniseries 11-22-63 moved to Tubi, which will give new viewers a chance to discover the greatness of the time travel show. While it is arguable that 11-22-63 remains the best Stephen King TV show, a new series premiering in 2025 could be a worthy competitor.

Stephen King is not just a prolific writer, he's a ravenous reader. Those two qualities mean that he has a strong sense for, among other storytelling talents, what makes a great antagonist. (King's favorite villains include Count Dracula and Anton Chigurh.)
King's own books have plenty of memorable bad guys: Pennywise, Randall Flagg, Greg Stillson, Cujo, etc. One of his more obscure villains resides not in the "Kingverse," though, but the Marvel Comics universe.
Stephen King doesn't watch or like Marvel Studios movies, but he's been a comic book fan for a long time. Some of King's earliest stories, he's said, were ones he copied out of the comics he was reading as a kid. The love has endured since he became a professional writer. A divisive Christmas horror movie from the 1980s is getting a second remake. The biggest horror remake boom occured in the 2000s, when a bevy of iconic horror titles were rebooted including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, The House on Sorority Row and more. However, remakes have been produced throughout horror history, including the prominent 1980s examples The Thing and The Blob, and the tradition has continued into the modern era with titles including 2020's The Invisible Man, 2022's Firestarter, and 2024's Salem's Lot.
Christmas horror movies are another longstanding tradition of the genre, as many filmmakers have found unique ways to blend the wholesome iconography of the season with bloody murder and mayhem, creating an unsettling juxtaposition. One of the most famous is Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher Black Christmas, which itself has been remade twice,...

Stephen King is one of the most prolific writers of our time and the second author with many film and television adaptations of his novels, after William Shakespeare. With many titles under his belt, some of his most popular work has been adapted not just once.

Firestarter is a hugely underrated Stephen King book that follows a young girl named Charlie, who displays pyrokinetic abilities that allow her to manipulate fire. The general details of Charlie's powers, and her quest to protect herself from them, are plot lines that King has used before in his works - namely, in Carrie. Firestarter's ending may not directly connect to any other of King's works, but it includes several thematic connections and aesthetic allusions that are fairly easy to spot given some familiarity with the author's bibliography.
This is likely a coincidence, as the two stories have completely different sets of characters and culminate differently, but the author easily could have tied them together with a fun Easter egg. When the powers become too dangerous for Charlie to maintain alone, the government seeks her out to harness them for their own purposes. It's a gripping thriller that manifests...

Stephen King has been a one-man fear-exploiting factory since the Nixon administration. He just celebrated the 50th publication anniversary of "Carrie" last April, and released a new collection of short stories, "You Like It Darker" a month ago. The 76-year-old author shows no signs of slowing down, and if you ask his legion of fans, they'll tell you that, while he's had his peaks and lulls, there's been no sustained fall-off in quality throughout his career. You might not spark to all of his books, but sooner or later the King of Horror will once again scare the holy hell out of you.

2022 was a great year for horror fans. New standalone movies and new installments of big franchises flooded the big and small screen during that year. The master of horror, Stephen King, appears to have new adaptations of his work coming out every year. The year saw the movie adaptation of Firestarter — that didn't impress audiences as much as it was hoped. Also in 2022, his son, Joe Hill, had one short story adapted by Blumhouse Productions, The Black Phone.
The Black Phone tells the story of a young boy, Finney (Mason Thames), who is kidnapped by a child murderer called The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) and must find a way to save his own life. The Black Phone premiered June 24, 2022, and there were immediate statements from Ethan Hawke, the lead actor in the movie, and the director, Scott Derrickson, about their willingness to return to this story. Exclusive: Film Bridge International is launching sales at AFM on horror Xelter, whose producers include The De Laurentiis Company (Hannibal) and Head Gear Films (Talk To Me).
The period horror film directed by Martin Bonnici is currently in production in Malta, with a cast of Maltese newcomers alongside actors including Brit Bobby Schofield (The Covenant) and Irish actor Moe Dunford (Vikings).
The WWII-set movie charts the legend of the Babaw, a supernatural creature known for stalking and killing children. The film, inspired by true historical events, sees citizens of Malta take shelter from Nazi bombardment in the ancient catacombs underneath the cities, where they suffered deadly peril from collapsing tunnels and entrapment. That experience scarred a generation, and led to stories about creatures that stole children who strayed too far away from their parents.
Screenplay was written by Scottish screenwriter and comics writer Emma Beeby, based on a story Beeby wrote with Gordon Rennie.

John Carpenter has shared the news on Twitter that he's set to appear as a guest on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" tonight, marking his first return to the late show circuit in decades. The filmmaker has popped up on late shows before, discussing "Halloween" on David Letterman's show in 1982 and returning to talk to Letterman (by then in Colbert's current "Late Show" post) in 1999. But the horror master isn't a big late show guy, and the pre-21st century Letterman appearance seems to have been the last time anyone saw him give a traditional late show interview aside from an appearance on "The Daily Show" in 2001. Thus, his spot on "The Late Show" tonight is certain to be a rare treat for horror fans eager to hear from the brilliant writer, director, producer, and composer behind films like "The Thing" and "Escape From New York."

John Carpenter's "The Thing" is a movie so cold and miserable you feel it in your bones as you watch it.
Pitting a group of U.S. civilians at an Arctic research station against a shape-shifting alien that can convincingly imitate other living organisms, Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi/horror flick notoriously bombed upon its initial release in theaters. Over 40 years later, though, it's now justly regarded as a masterclass in genre filmmaking. With its incredibly gory practical creature effects (which are as gross as they ever were) and bleak-as-hell atmosphere, Carpenter's nihilistic exercise in paranoia has aged far more gracefully than the gung-ho Reagan-era entertainment the masses were flocking to at the time it was made.
As a film ahead of its time that would go on to find a much larger fanbase thanks to home media, it was inevitable that Carpenter's "The Thing" would return in some new form...

Pro wrestling seems like fertile ground for the TV and movie industry, but until the appearance of Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler (2008) and Netflix's series Glow about a group of female wrestlers, productions enjoying both popular and critical success have been thin on the ground. It seems a strange omission, especially given the inherently dramatic sphere of pro wrestling.
One such example is that of the Von Erich family. Any wrestling fan worthy of the name will remember with fondness the Von Erichs. They were five brothers who all succeeded in the sport, taking as their inspiration their father, Fritz Von Erich. The Von Erichs dominated the world of pro wrestling in the 1970s and 1980s, racking up dozens of regional, national, and international titles between them and gaining a loyal band of fans.
However, for all the ringside triumphs the family enjoyed, the Von Erichs were also wracked with tragedy.

Stranger Things season 1 draws inspiration from Stephen King's Firestarter, with Eleven's storyline having similarities to the novel's father-daughter duo on the run from a shady government agency. Stranger Things tells Firestarter's story better than its official film adaptations, with more effective scares, a stronger focus on the heroine, and a more tangible father-daughter dynamic. Adapting Firestarter has been difficult due to the challenge of creating tension when the powerful heroine can incinerate anyone in her way, but Stranger Things proves it is possible to bring real stakes and suspense to a superhuman young heroine's story.
Stranger Things nailed its horrific homage to a classic Stephen King novel whose own on-screen adaptations have been miserable failures. Since its inception, Stranger Things has drawn influence from many different cinematic and literary sources, from the ‘80s horror films of Wes Craven and John Carpenter to the heartwarming Amblin classics of Steven Spielberg.

John Carpenter explains that his franchises probably won't cross over due to different entities owning the rights to the movies, which could result in expensive lawsuits. Carpenter has kickstarted a few franchises, including Halloween and Escape from New York. At a New York Comic Con panel, the director shared his dislike for the potential legal consequences of incorporating characters like Snake Plissken in a horror movie.
John Carpenter has shared a candid reason that franchises he has started probably won't cross over. The director, who is best known for his work in the horror and science fiction genres, helmed the first movie in the massive Halloween franchise, which now includes 13 movies and a possible upcoming TV adaptation. At the time of writing, he has directed 18 theatrical features through 2010's The Ward and has only recently returned to directing, helming an episode of the Peacock series Suburban Screams.

Netflix’s smash hit, Stranger Things, is chock-full of references that pay tribute to the '80s, specifically '80s horror. Since Season 1, the Duffer Brothers have carefully curated these aspects into the show and even cast popular actors from the decade to take on leading roles. One example is Winona Ryder, who plays the fierce mother Joyce Byers and had a prominent career in the '80s and '90s. Stranger Things Season 4, which was released in two parts in 2022, introduced one of the biggest villains that the series has seen to date: Vecna. Stranger Things’ newest big bad is here to stay, and he has Freddy Krueger’s DNA all over him.
Stranger Things is one of the many shows on Netflix that blends the lines between mature content and kid-friendly horror. However, one thing that the Duffer Brothers get right every season is that the show has a great deal of heart,...

Not all sports stories have a happy ending. On Oct. 11, A24 released the trailer for its upcoming wrestling drama "The Iron Claw," inspired by the real-life wrestling siblings the Von Erichs. In the film, Jeremy Allen White plays Kerry Von Erich, the most famous member of the family; Zac Efron stars as Kevin, and Harris Dickinson plays their brother David. The tense trailer for the '80s-set drama previews some of the unbelievable heartache and loss the family went through - leading to a legend that they were "cursed."
In real life, the family's patriarch, Jack Adkisson (played by Holt McCallany), used the name Fritz Von Erich as his wrestling gimmick when he first broke into the sport in the 1950s. Five of his six children would go on to become professional wrestlers as well. When Fritz died in 1997, five of his six sons had died before him; only Kevin was still alive.

It’s been great having a spree of new John Carpenter albums over the last decade; we might also acknowledge that roughly half of them were tied to projects few wanted, appreciable garnishes on undercooked (or outright-frozen) meals. Alongside David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy and (I also forgot about this until looking it up) a Firestarter remake there’s been three rock-solid Lost Themes albums and the particularly wonderful Anthology, which reimagined his most iconic scores and those we’d kindly slot in the “otherwise” column (much as I love Vampires).
Before returning to the director’s chair / couch this month with an episode of his Peacock series Suburban Screams, Carpenter has released Anthology II (Movie Themes 1976-1988), which spans everything from his, rough estimate, 976th interpretation of “Laurie’s Theme” to a faithful, booming take on Halloween III‘s vastly underrated theme, and for obsessives there’s special...

The Stephen King adaptation The Breathing Method has received a development update. Director Scott Derrickson, previously attached to the project, is no longer involved. Gen V adds a dark twist to one main character's powers, referencing a 43-year-old Stephen King story, highlighting the ethical conflicts they face. Stephen King needs no introduction. However, some of his films sure do. Although his books have been monstrous successes, there have been many movie adaptations that have not fared quite so well. But it appears that is starting to change. King’s work has been experiencing a cinematic renaissance as of late.
Horror has taken on a new life, and many new studios and directors are starting to remember just how great King’s universe actually is. He has spent over forty years putting things together and is now allowing these new creators to take over. But is this new trend leading to a combined universe?

Roughly three months after her death, the stately Los Angeles compound of Martha De Laurentiis has popped up for sale, armed with a hefty $37.5 million asking price. The longtime home of the filmmaker and her legendary producer husband, Dino De Laurentiis, who passed away back in 2010, the nearly 6,000-square-foot mansion was built in the 1940s and sits in the mountains above Beverly Hills, replete with jaw-dropping vistas stretching from downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean.
The Italy-born Oscar winner and his American wife acquired the spread 35 years ago for about $2.8 million and subsequently embarked on an elaborate customization of the premises. They renovated the kitchen, converted a portion of the attic into a bedroom and bath, and added a tennis court; Martha also later installed solar panels in the canyon below.

Australia has five nominees across four categories for this year’s Rose d’Or Awards, which will be presented in a virtual ceremony at the end of this month.
Two are from the Northern Pictures’ slate, with Strong Female Lead set to vye for the Documentary award, while Love on the Spectrum got a nod in Best Reality and Factual Entertainment, where it will be up against the ABC’s You Can’t Ask That.
Elsewhere, In Films’ documentary Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra is nominated in the Arts category, and the ABC’s Australia Talks is part of the field for Studio Entertainment award.
The prestigious awards have previously been a happy hunting ground for Australian titles, with Epic Films’ First Day and Ludo Studios’ Content triumphing at last year’s ceremony.
This year marks their 60th anniversary, having been created to recognise achievement in entertainment broadcasting and programming.

The editors behind Nitram, I Met A Girl, The Furnace and June Again will compete for this year’s Ellie Award for Best Editing in Feature Drama, while the television drama category will be a contest between those who cut Wakefield, The Tailings, Jack Irish, Eden and Bump.
The annual awards of the Australian Screen Editors (Ase) will be held in early February with the hope that travel restrictions between states will have eased.
“It’s been a tough two years and we think we all deserve to be together in person to celebrate these fine achievements in editing, and the results of everybody’s hard work during such difficult times,” Ase president Danielle Boesenberg tells If.
In addition to the feature film prize, I Met A Girl editor Melanie Annan will also be in contention for Best Editing in Documentary and Series for Three Songs for Benazir, shared with Christoph Wermke.

Exclusive: Firestarter reboot lead Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Evil Dead alum Shiloh Fernandez are among cast to have joined Nicolas Cage in action-western The Old Way, which we revealed last week.
In The Old Way, Cage stars as Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger who now runs a general store and lives quietly with his family. When a gang of outlaws murders his wife in cold blood, Briggs returns home to find his world burning. He unearths his sidearm and saddles up with an unlikely partner: his twelve-year-old daughter. The project marks Cage’s first ‘traditional’ western.
Armstrong, who plays Briggs’ daughter Brooke, recently starred in American Horror Story: Double Feature on FX and will soon be seen in Blumhouse’s Firestarter, where she will reprise the role of Charlie, made famous by Drew Barrymore in the original 1984 adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel. This summer, the child star appeared...
