Dennis Hopper movies: 15 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Dennis Hopper was the Oscar-nominated performer who experienced many ups-and-downs throughout his career, with his off-screen antics often overshadowing his onscreen talent. Yet many of his movies have stood the test of time. Let's take a look back at 15 of Hopper's greatest films, ranked worst to best.

Born in 1936, Hopper made his movie debut at the age of 19 in "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955), where he became fast friends with James Dean. He had an even bigger role in "Giant" (1956), which would be Dean's last film before his untimely death in 1955. Hopper struggled for several years trying to find his voice, making small appearances in such films as "Cool Hand Luke" (1967) and "True Grit"(1969).

He burst onto the scene with the counterculture phenomenon "Easy Rider" (1969), which he also directed and co-wrote (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern). The story of two bikers (Hopper and Fonda) traveling across the country...

Francis Ford Coppola AFI Life Achievement Award: Steven Spielberg Praises 'The Godfather' as "Greatest American Movie"
Image
At the 50th AFI Life Achievement Awards ceremony on Saturday, Hollywood icons Steven Spielberg and George Lucas united to honor Francis Ford Coppola, presenting him with the accolade. Spielberg and Coppola met in 1967, and in 1971 Coppola screened Spielberg's Duel at his home. Lucas was present, and that marked the beginning of Spielberg's relationships with both filmmakers. That same year, Coppola produced Lucas' first directorial project, Thx 1138. Spielberg lauded Coppola as "a warrior for independent artists" and someone "fearless in how open you are to ideas, opinions and inspiration."

Reflecting on Coppola's impressive filmography, Spielberg fondly recalled watching an early cut of Apocalypse Now, along with other filmmakers (via Variety):

"When the film ended, you asked us to tell you what we saw, how we felt. You invited all of us in, so one by one, we told you where we were lost and where we were found, and I sat there in awe,...

8 Highlights From the Francis Ford Coppola AFI Lifetime Achievement Award Show
Image
Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, Morgan Freeman, Spike Lee, Diane Lane and more sang the praises of Francis Ford Coppola at the 50th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award tribute event Saturday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Spielberg called Coppola “peerless” while Lucas said, “You’re our hero, Francis, the first university student to make it in the industry.” Son Roman Coppola was also on hand, as was Gia Coppola, while Sofia Coppola shared a pre-taped video interview with her father.

Throughout the emotional evening, Coppola was celebrated as a true Hollywood outsider who made the system work for him and someone who launched dozens of careers, as with the cast of his 1983 film “The Outsiders.” Here are some of the highlights from the ceremony:

Steven Spielberg moved Coppola to tears

In his moving tribute to his longtime friend, Spielberg had his fellow filmmaker...

Francis Ford Coppola Defended by Peers at AFI Life Achievement Award Ceremony: ‘F**k the Bankers’
Image
The first celebrity to take to the Dolby Theatre stage to celebrate filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola becoming the 50th recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award was an actor that has actually never worked with the iconic director. Still, Morgan Freeman, himself an AFI Life Achievement Award winner in 2011, set the tone for what the rest of Coppola’s colleagues and family members would highlight from his storied career.

“Francis Ford Coppola is still the independent filmmaker, believer of dreams on a dime, teller of tales that cost and lost millions,” said Freeman. “But tonight, fuck the bankers and the backers. We’re here to celebrate art.”

Though she was not at the event in person, his daughter Sofia Coppola, an Oscar-winning filmmaker in her own right, filmed a retrospective interview with the AFI honoree that served as a framework for the event.

One of the first films to get...

Laurence Fishburne Felt ‘Really Dejected’ After Doing ’40 Takes’ of an ‘Apocalypse Now’ Scene Talking About Sex at Age 14
Image
Laurence Fishburne is recalling just how “disappointed” Francis Ford Coppola was in part of his “Apocalypse Now” performance.

Fishburne, who later reunited with Coppola for “Rumble Fish,” “The Cotton Club,” “Gardens of Stone,” and 2024’s Razzie winner “Megalopolis,” said during the Apple TV+ documentary “Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood” that while filming 1979’s “Apocalypse Now,” his own lack of real-life “sexual experience” impacted his acting ability.

Fishburne was age 14 when he was cast in the film; a scene cut from the original theatrical release (and later re-added in Coppola’s 2001 redux cut) included Fishburne’s soldier character detailing sex. However, Coppola did not find Fishburne convincing. A source close to production told IndieWire that Fishburne misrepresented his age in his audition to land the role. IndieWire has reached out to Fishburne’s representatives for additional comment.

“There’s a scene in ‘Apocalypse Now’ that...

Laurence Fishburne Says Francis Ford Coppola Was “Disappointed” by His Lack of “Sexual Experience” as a Teen When Filming ‘Apocalypse Now’
Image
Laurence Fishburne is recalling an incident while filming 1979’s Apocalypse Now that he said left director Francis Ford Coppola “disappointed.”

In Apple TV+’s new documentary Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, the actor said his lack of “sexual experience” as a teenager impacted a scene in the American epic war film.

“There’s a scene in Apocalypse Now that got cut from the original film, and then it’s been put back in the redux,” the Matrix star recounted. “I was 14, 15, whatever, trying to do this scene talking about sex and I had no sexual experience. Like, none.”

Fishburne continued, saying the Oscar-winning filmmaker “couldn’t figure out how to get me to be any more experienced than I am, but he kept asking me to do it over and over again. I did something like 40 takes. It was really bad. And I could tell that he was disappointed.

Demi Moore joins Tom Cruise, Eddie Murphy, and these other 1980s ‘popcorn stars’ denied at the Oscars
Image
Is there a kernel of truth to the notion that "popcorn stars" don't win Oscars? It certainly felt that way to fans hoping to see Demi Moore pull off a Best Actress victory at the 2025 Oscars. Her daring performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance had earned her a Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Award, putting her in frontrunner position as she arrived at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2. But suddenly, those hopes were dashed when Emma Stone read out the winner: Mikey Madison in Anora.

It wasn't unfamiliar to see one of the biggest box-office draws from decades past lose the big one. Perhaps the Academy couldn't see past what Moore had once been told she was — a popcorn actress. She addressed the demeaning title in her Golden Globes acceptance speech nearly two months prior, stating that a producer called her a “popcorn actress” 30 years ago, which...

4K Uhd Blu-ray Review: Gus Van Sant’s ‘Drugstore Cowboy’ on the Criterion Collection
Image
Gus Van Sant’s Drugstore Cowboy is a road movie on opioids. Its characters are nomadic drug addicts who roam the Pacific Northwest in search of pharmacies and hospitals to raid, but the thrill they get from thieving is as fleeting and mocking as the highs they get from speed and other drugs.

The leader of this pack is Bob Hughes (Matt Dillon), who’s developed a kind of gambler’s intuition about their robberies. When he feels “hot,” he’ll hit a location at the drop of a hat, no matter the time of day. But when he senses the group’s luck turning south, he’ll hole up in their dilapidated house and face withdrawal rather than risk capture. Compared to Bob, the others in the group—his wife Dianne (Kelly Lynch), his best friend Rick (James Le Gros), and Rick’s teenage girlfriend Nadine (Heather Graham)—see...

Why Laurence Fishburne Left CSI After Season 11
Image
Laurence Fishburne left CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for a specific reason. The show, which premiered on CBS in 2000, was created by Anthony E. Zuiker and ran for 15 seasons, in the process spawning half a dozen spinoffs including CSI: Miami, which ran for 10 seasons, and CSI: NY, which ran for nine. The flagship show, which followed a Las Vegas Police Department crime scene investigation team, featured a rotating cast of stars over the years, which included William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, Gary Dourdan, George Eads, Jorja Fox, Paul Guilfoyle, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Louise Lombard, and Elisabeth Shue.

Laurence Fishburne joined the CSI franchise in 2008, first appearing on the flagship show in season 9 as former medical doctor Raymond Langston and becoming a main cast member two episodes later, after the departure of Petersen's longtime character Gil Grissom, who had been a part of the series since the pilot. During his tenure,...

Who Plays Ponyboy Curtis In The Outsiders?
Image
Francis Ford Coppola is responsible for half a century of onscreen leading men. The greatest Hollywood actors of the later 20th century, from Al Pacino to Robert De Niro to Robert Duvall? They also got their big break in one of the first two "Godfather" films. That's not to say these actors wouldn't have been stars without Coppola's movies (none of them are exactly one-hit wonders), but the New Hollywood truly put several artists in the right place at the right time to produce classic films.

In 1983, Coppola did it again with "The Outsiders," adapting S.E. Hinton's 1967 coming-of-age novel about several low-class teenage "Greasers" in 1960s Oklahoma. The main ensemble was played by several then up-and-comers, now-stars: Ralph Macchio as the sensitive Johnny Cade, Matt Dillon as wannabe tough guy Dallas "Dally" Winston, and Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze as brothers Sodapop and Darrel "Darry" Curtis. Diane Lane also appears as Cherry,...

Francis Ford Coppola Details His ‘Special Affection’ for ‘Rumble Fish’ Inside the Criterion Closet
Image
Francis Ford Coppola is nothing if not nostalgic. His work, from “The Godfather” to “Megalopolis,” echoes not only past periods of history, but also the cinema that’s influenced him since he was a child. In entering the Criterion Closet, Coppola didn’t come to simply select a few films to take home, but to also pay homage to those helped shape him and to his own work that took time to find appreciation. He started his visit by grabbing the Complete Jacques Tati set and comparing Tati’s experience financing “Playtime” to his own recent gamble on “Megalopolis,” acknowledging that many didn’t consider it a “masterpiece” at the time, whereas now they do.

“More than a masterpiece because it’s a gift of a really good time,” said Coppola, “a lot of fun for everybody.”

Coppola went on to take his own film, “Rumble Fish,” starring a young...

Francis Ford Coppola hopeful for the next generation of filmmakers
Image
We can debate whether or not we take the masters of cinema for granted or not, but there is always hope in the future filmmakers to build on what they did. Maybe some of the legends dismiss things like Marvel as not being true cinema but it all came from somewhere; that is, influences carry on through generations. And that will be true forever, whether we can imagine it or not.

Francis Ford Coppola recently stopped by The Criterion Collection’s famed closet to not only take home a tote bag full of movies but give his thoughts on the state of cinema and where it might be headed. Speaking on influences and where he sees the next generation of filmmakers headed, Coppola stated, “All of us are on the shoulders of giants. And hopefully will provide that same kind of inspiration to the wonderful young people coming along. And...

There’s no stopping Tom Cruise from conquering Hollywood’s box office even in his 60s, and that’s all thanks to one movie he did when he was 20 – Paul Brickman’s Risky Business (1983). The film catapulted the actor to stardom and it paved the way for him to become a major leading man material.

The Making of a Master: Francis Ford Coppola and ‘Dementia 13’
Image
For over fifty years, Francis Ford Coppola has been a towering, and often controversial, figure in American Cinema. His filmography is one of the most legendary of all time and includes some of the greatest movies ever made like The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974), The Conversation (1974), Apocalypse Now (1979), and more. It also includes wild swings—One from the Heart (1982), Rumble Fish (1983), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)—which sometimes paid off, but sometimes did not. This year, his forty-year-in-the-making passion project Megalopolis finally hit screens for the general public after a festival run that provoked a mixed critical response to say the least. It is a gigantic movie made on a huge budget with vast, and sometimes impenetrable, ideas. His very first film, however, was a much more modest project, made on a minuscule budget, and…it was a horror movie.

Dementia 13 (1963) is very much a...

The Movie That Francis Ford Coppola Is Most Proud Of Is Not The Godfather Nor Apocalypse Now
Image
Francis Ford Coppola has enjoyed a long and storied career, but his movie Rumble Fish is often overlooked. Coppola directed legendary movies, including The Godfather (1972), The Godfather II (1974), and Apocalypse Now (1979). He has earned five Oscars in his career, alongside Golden Globes, a BAFTA, and two Directors Guild of America awards. His recent September 27 release, Megalopolis, proved to be a box office disappointment, having earned just $7.5 million on a budget of over $120 million.

In a Megalopolis Twitter thread devoted solely to Coppola answering questions from viewers, he elected to answer one question about the best movie in his filmography. While he was reluctant to name one, as he loves them all, Coppola admitted that Rumble Fish is his favorite:

That's like asking someone with 7 kids, who's the best? I love them all, but if scratched deeper I might say Rumblefish. https://t.co/FakT9KbuVP Megalopolis (@megalopolismov) October 4, 2024

Francis Ford Coppola has revealed the movie he is most proud of. The answer may surprise some.

In a Q&a session on X (formerly Twitter) today, the legendary filmmaker was asked by one fan: “Out of all the films that you’ve made, which one would you say you are the most proud of having made, or which one do you feel best captures your ideas of film as an art form?”

Few living filmmakers have a catalogue to rival Coppola: The Godfather films, Apocalypse Now and The Conversation, to name a few of his most acclaimed.

But those weren’t his choice today. The filmmaker was torn, but replied: “That’s like asking someone with 7 kids, who’s the best? I love them all, but if scratched deeper I might say Rumblefish”.

Interesting choice for sure. 1983 drama Rumble Fish is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton,...

Megalopolis Review
Image
Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis is a grand experiment. A frustrating but enthralling dive into Coppola’s vision of what film are, have been and could be.

After nearly thirty years of development and an influx of his own personal resources to ensure maximum creative freedom, Francis Ford Coppola’s potentially final film is as deliberate and obvious an agglomeration of its creator’s view on film (and life) as any director has ever committed to the screen.

That view is one that emphasizes family and charity versus the self-annihilation of greed and consumption, themes which he approached regularly in both his career (this is essentially what The Godfather is about) and his own personal life. Bundling that with all his hopes and aspirations for cinematic experimentation — this is the Coppola of One From the Heart and Rumble Fish in full flourish — produces an experience both frustrating and mesmerizing in...

Francis Ford Coppola’s Box Office Highs and Lows: 62 Years of (Often) Living Dangerously
Image
October 25 will mark 62 years since the release of the first film directed by Francis Ford Coppola: “Come on Out” (later retitled “Tonight for Sure”), a re-edited feature version of three different shorter nudie films he made while a film student at UCLA. It debuted in 1962, right in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis.

With “Megalopolis” opening, he likely has the longest feature film directorial career ever, ahead of Manoel de Oliveira (61 years), Jean-Luc Godard (58), Jerzy Skolimowsky (58), and Frederick Wiseman (56). Clint Eastwood, whose latest film “Juror #2” premieres next month, spans a mere 53 as a director.

To sustain a career that long necessitates a lot of success, which Coppola has had, led by “The Godfather.” But it has been a perilous journey, elongated (“Megalopolis” the most extreme) by his willingness to spend money to keep directing. Of note, his last studio-financed film was “The Rainmaker,” 27 years — and nearly half his career — ago.

The Godfather Director's Most Underrated Film Is This Forgotten Crime Drama
Image
Francis Ford Coppola is one of the most famous directors of all time. His vast portfolio covers every genre, while his casting connections span the breadth of modern filmmaking. To most, hes the mastermind behind The Godfather. Alternatively, avid fans of 1980s cinema best remember Coppola for directing The Outsiders. It doesnt matter which film hes known for, though; both are massively influential. However, one of his most memorable films is a forgotten gem. That film is

Rumble Fish, an avant-garde crime drama in a bite-sized hour-and-a-half package, uses drab black-and-white footage to hide a vibrant heart, while its remarkable cast brings the riveting tale to life. So, why isnt Rumble Fish more famous? Part of its obscurity comes from its release schedule. Rumble Fish crashed into theaters in 1983, the same year as its more famous sibling, The Outsiders. It, too, was an adaptation of S. E. Hintons work, although...

Image
Its always exciting to see Hollywood actors make major comebacks after a long time away from the spotlight. In some cases, actors have taken a step back intentionally, and in other instances, it's forced upon them due to a string of commercial failures, but no matter the circumstances, a career comeback reminds viewers what was great about the performer in the first place. Whether its silent-era starlets reviving their careers in the age of sound or modern movie stars overcoming personal problems to lead multi-billion dollar franchises, a Hollywood comeback represents the very best of Tinseltown.

Some of the best actors working today had major career setbacks that led to them shying away from the spotlight only to make a grand return several years later. Occasionally, these comebacks were so impressive that the actors gained widespread accolades and Academy Awards for their achievements. Witnessing a movie star reclaim their past...

Stephen King Divides Fans with His Opinion of Stand by Me
Image
In one of his usual tweets on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter, Stephen King reposted a list of bleak coming-of-age films put together by a famous filmmaker while adding his own peculiar take. King's contribution was the 1986 adventure drama Stand by Me, directed by Rob Reiner, a film that most would think is anything but bleak.

The original list was published by Scott Derrickson on X; the director behind The Black Phone (based on a story from Stephen King's son) certainly knows bleak coming-of-age movies. Derrickson (who also directed Sinister) included a variety of masterpieces in his list, such as Elephant, Kids, Christiane F, Rumble Fish, and others. They're certainly bleak, but when King reposted the list and added Stand By Me, Derrickson replied to his post, saying, "I don't think of that film as bleak."

Nicolas Cage movies: 16 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.

Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.

For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Cage’s script selection has been receiving praise ever since the critical acclaim for 2018’s Mandy.

The Police’s ‘Synchronicity’ Box Set Gets Inside the Dysfunction That Fueled an Eighties Classic
Image
In 1983, sometime between the M*A*S*H finale, the shock of seeing Darth Vader’s face, and the Cabbage Patch Riots, the Police issued the year’s music blockbuster. The trio’s fifth and final album, Synchronicity, was almost immediately the best-selling LP released that year.

The record, now octuple platinum, was a cultural force: The New York Times likened it to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for pairing highbrow conceptualism (can you explain psychiatrist Carl Jung’s 1960 theory of “synchronicity”?) with tunes you could hum (who cares!

Brats focuses on the impact of the "Brat Pack" nickname on young actors of the 1980s, honing in on three central films. McCarthy's documentary features conversations with former co-stars and social experts, exploring the collective experience of the actors. Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, and The Breakfast Club are highlighted in Brats for their significance in Brat Pack culture.

A new documentary on Hulu by director Andrew McCarthy called Brats explores the impact of the nickname the "Brat Pack" on a group of young actors whose careers took off in the 1980s McCarthy himself was a member, referencing several movies in the process. Other actors in the Brat Pack included Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Alley Sheedy, Demi Moore, and Molly Ringwald. The actors would be grouped with the Brat Pack label for the rest of their careers. Rather than explore every film that members of the Brat Pack created,...

There's Never Been a Weirder 5 Minutes in a Francis Ford Coppola Movie Than This Scene
Image
There are few filmmakers in history who have had a run of films as successful as Francis Ford Coppolas output in the 1970s. Each of the four films helmed by Coppola would go on to be an all-time classic. The Godfather was a cultural landmark that brought respect to the gangster genre, The Conversation was a brilliant conspiracy thriller that related to current political anxieties, The Godfather: Part II was the rare sequel that surpassed its predecessor, and Apocalypse Now was the definitive film about the Vietnam War. The success Coppola earned allowed him to finance a series of personal projects in the 1980s. While he turned to making intimate coming-of-age dramas like Rumble Fish and The Outsiders, Coppola also made the crowd-pleasing romantic comedy Peggy Sue Got Married.

Fred Roos Dead at 89: Longtime Francis Ford Coppola Collaborator Was a Casting Director, Producer
Image
Fred Roos, the longtime producing and casting collaborator of Francis Ford Coppola, has died at age 89.

Roos famously found Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford, launching both actors’ respective careers, and even helped cast Carrie Fisher alongside Ford in “Star Wars.” He is credited for also boosting the careers of Kirsten Dunst, Diane Keaton, Laurence Fishburne, Frederic Forest, Diane Lane, Nicolas Cage, Richard Dreyfuss, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Jennifer Connelly, Billy Bob Thorton, Marshall Bell, and more.

Roos produced follow-up film “The Godfather: Part II,” “Apocalypse Now,” and Coppola’s recent “Megalopolis,” for which he also helped cast the star-studded ensemble. In 1974, both Roos and Coppola earned two Oscar...

Fred Roos Dies: Oscar-Winning ‘Godfather Part II’ Producer & Longtime Coppola Collaborator Was 89
Image
Fred Roos, the Oscar-winning The Godfather Part II producer and longtime executive producer for Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola, died Saturday in Beverly Hills at 89, four days shy of his 90th birthday.

The news about Roos, who won his Godfather Part II Oscar and later was nominated for Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, comes as Francis Ford Coppola is here at the Cannes Film Festival, 45 years after winning the Palme d’Or for Apocalypse Now. Coppola is in town with his $120 million passion project Megalopolis, which had its world premiere last week. Roos is billed as producer on Megalopolis.

‘Megalopolis’ Review: Francis Ford Coppola’s Passion Project Starring Adam Driver Is a Staggeringly Ambitious Big Swing, if Nothing Else
Image
The character in Megalopolis played by Adam Driver with idealistic passion, Cesar Catilina, is a visionary genius intent on saving New York City by building a utopian future, dislodging the elite ruling class in the process. In many ways, Cesar’s mission, both noble and egomaniacal, seems a direct reflection of the dogged determination of Francis Ford Coppola to get this movie made at any cost. The “fable” could almost be an allegory for the pursuit of a dream in which an auteur can still make a monumental epic without compromise in a Hollywood that marginalizes art to focus purely on economics.

The first sparks of the idea came to Coppola in the early 1980s, and he’s been developing it on and off ever since — doing table reads with major-name actors, shooting 30 hours of second unit footage in Manhattan in 2001 and then almost abandoning the project six years later when funding proved elusive.

Sofia Coppola's Favorite Francis Ford Coppola Movie Still Holds up Today
Image
Rumble Fish is overlooked despite being a deeply moving coming-of-age film that shaped Sofia Coppola's filmmaking voice. Coppola's experimental use of black-and-white film and handheld camera creates a unique, artful aesthetic in Rumble Fish. Sofia Coppola's praise of Rumble Fish as an art film about teenagers reflects her own career focus on young characters and mood over story.

For a director as endlessly celebrated as Francis Ford Coppola, choosing one movie as his masterpiece is a daunting prospect. Obviously, The Godfather still stands as one of the defining works of the New Hollywood movement, and Part II arguably holds together as a better film, even if its not as iconic. However, one could make just as convincing an argument that Apocalypse Now is his opus in that it uses the template of a war film to dive into the human psyche and uncover the darkness within. And still others think The Conversation,...

25 Wild Details Behind The Making Of The Outsiders
Image
The Outsiders adapted beautifully to film, capturing the essence of 1950s youth and creating iconic characters like Sodapop and Dally. Behind-the-scenes of the 1983 movie involved intense auditions, a young star-studded cast, and Coppola's method for authenticity. From real feuds between actors to a dedication to passionate fans, The Outsiders is a timeless classic with a heartfelt backstory.

The Outsiders behind the scenes story details the interesting path the book adaptation took to becoming a classic. The Outsiders is considered one of the most romantic, heroic interpretations of 1950s youth to ever be brought to a film screen. Author S.E. Hinton created a world that would transform the way teens saw themselves with characters like Sodapop, Ponyboy, and Dally becoming icons of young adult fiction and visual media in the 1980s to the present. The story centers around a group of disenfranchised teenagers, their struggles with identity, and the pressures that come with it.
