I remember when Mamas Family first aired on NBC, although I thought it was in 1981. This show is very funny and holds up very well over time. I set my vcr to record the show so I can watch them at leisure. I like the fact that Mamas Family is a show you can still watch with every member of your family and not have to worry about vulgarity, like in so many shows on today. Mamas Family was a sweet, simple and fun show. I wish there were more shows like it made today.
Just recently started to watch the reruns of this show and I am wondering how I could have missed the initial airing of it. This is an excellent comedy series which doesn't rely on sexually connotated trash. Sick of the current comedic filth?, then you`ll enjoy this laugh a minute offering, the characters are superbly portrayed and the plots always hilarious.
I first discovered this show in 2000 and I loved it right away. This show is not meant for those who expect it to be realistic. It is meant for those who want to take a break from everyday life and just have a laugh. I eagerly look forward to 5:00 am every weekday so I can watch this show. As soon as theme comes on I am instantly in a good mood. The entire cast is marvelous. I recommend anyone who has not seen to tune in to TBS on weekday mornings at 5:00 Central Time! Okay, so the earlier seasons (1 and 2) were great because of the appearances of Carol Burnett playing daughter Eunice, but even the later seasons were funny. I didn't think Beverly Archer was as funny as Carol, but I have to admit, when I hear that "Knock Knock" I immediately start to laugh!
Mama's Family is the BEST show for anyone who lives in the South. EVERYONE knows people like Mama, Vint, Iola... Mama reminds me of my Grandma. this show is like family to me. If I'm depressed, I pop in my tape of Mama reruns and just relax....it soothes me! I love this show...God bless TBS for caring enough to keep it going. Golden Girls is another show VERY similar to this which just warms your heart! Mama is a permanent part of my life. Did you ever see the one where Mama is home alone? She does Singin on the Rain on the porch! It's a classic!
I just have to laugh everytime I watch this show. Old Thelma is a mess and she cracks me up! Eunice is a riot and I get laughs from Vinton with all his silliness! I can even do a perfect voice of Iola. The main reason I started watching the show was to see Rue McClanahan and Betty White because I think they are funny actresses and I use to only watch those episodes but I grew attached to the rest of the cast. This series provides plenty of laughs! Thelma seems very sharp tounged and she says nasty stuff about her family but deep down, I think she really loves them and she has even shown it in a few episodes considering she is not one for showing her emotions and acts grumpy all the time. This show is definately a classic and alot better than alot of the shows today! I like 80's and even 70's sitcoms alot better than the new stuff because I think they are funnier.
