The film is well known for being a classic art house horror film, it has disturbing violent and sexual imagery, surreal and bizarre content and a overall unsettling tone.

One of the films most well known scenes takes place in a subway, a woman walking and acting in psychotic behaviour in a isolated part of the subway laughs maniacally, screams till a point it sounds almost unhuman, throwing herself around and groceries everywhere (especially flower) causing a mess, it cuts to her bleeding and vomiting white liquid, it's later revealed as a miscarriage, very disturbing and surreal.
