1. Friday the 13th (1980)

One of the most iconic slasher films of all time, “Friday the 13th” introduced audiences to Camp Crystal Lake and the vengeful killer who lurks there. With its shocking twist ending, the film set the stage for a long-running franchise and established many of the genre’s classic tropes.

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Wes Craven’s horror masterpiece introduced Freddy Krueger, a terrifying figure who haunts the dreams of teenagers. With its inventive concept and blend of surreal horror, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” stands out as one of the most creative and enduring slasher films of the decade.

Kevin Brophy, an actor best known for his titular role in the 1970s television drama Lucan and the indie horror classic Hell Night, has died. He was 70. According to his Legacy.com obituary, Brophy passed away on May 11 at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, after a battle with cancer. He lived ten years with stage four cancer, five of them in total remission. “Known for his positive attitude and limitless faith… Kevin will be remembered for his quick wit, love of family and friends and gratefulness of spirit,” reads the obituary. Born on November 1, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Brophy relocated with his family to California, where he graduated from the California Institute of the Arts. He then embarked on a career in acting, landing his first major role as the titular Lucan in the TV series of the same name, based on an earlier made-for-tv movie directed by David Greene.

Kevin Brophy, whose credits include the TV series Lucan and films Hell Night and The Long Riders, died on May 11 at the age of 70, according to an online obituary. He had stage 4 cancer for ten years before succumbing at the family home in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, his family relocated to the San Fernando Valley. He then moved to Del Mar, California for high school.

After graduating from the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in Valencia, Brophy played the title character in the television series Lucan (1977-1978).

He was also featured in the films The Long Riders (1980) and the horror classic Hell Night (1981).

Brophy had numerous guest roles in motion pictures and television series, appearing on The Love Boat, M*A*S*H, Growing Pains, The Hardy Boys Mysteries and Hart to Hart.

Kevin Brophy, who starred as a young man raised by wolves on the short-lived ABC series Lucan and as the doomed leader of a college fraternity in the cult horror film Hell Night, has died. He was 70.

Brophy died May 11 at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, his family announced. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 10 years ago, they said.

On 1977-78’s Lucan, his first professional acting job, Brophy portrayed a 20-year-old man who spent the first 10 years of his life with wolves in the forests of Minnesota before he’s brought into society.

His character possessed wolf-like superpowers like strength, agility and heightened senses of smell and hearing, and when angry, his eyes glowed amber.

Many people would claim that Frank Darabont has made the best Stephen King adaptations ever put on film, but did you know that over a decade before making The Shawshank Redemption, it would be Stephen King himself who helped Frank Darabont become a filmmaker? Frank would use one of Stephen King’s infamous “Dollar Babies” where King would allow aspiring filmmakers to license one of his short stories for just $1. Darabont would adapt King’s short The Woman in the Room which would be short-listed for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short film in 1983. Despite not getting the nomination, and not even particularly liking the short, King was a fan and for $5,000, granted Darabont the rights to adapt another of his short stories: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

There's no question that the moviegoing experience has changed since the "The Exorcist" became a landmark cultural event when it was released the day after Christmas in 1973. The horror genre was made for sequels, which explains why we’ve seen Dracula dozens of times and characters like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees have persisted for decades.

Ah, the '80s! A time of neon leg warmers, cassette tapes, and some of the most gloriously over-the-top horror movie slashers ever to grace the silver screen. While the decade gave us iconic killers like Freddy and Jason, it also birthed a slew of lesser-known but equally thrilling slashers that have been gathering dust in the dark corners of horror history. These hidden gems are brimming with inventive kills, wild plot twists, and enough suspense to make your hair stand on end (and not just because of the hairspray).

So grab your VHS player, pop some popcorn, and let's dive into 10 forgotten and underated slashers of the '80s that still have some stabs left in them!

The year was 2001, in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, many studios struggled to find the proper way to market and release their films while still being sensitive to what had just happened. Many films were moved off their original release dates to give the studios, and audiences, more time to figure out the proper way forward. One film, however, was deemed a slam dunk: a feel good story about a man who loses his memory and is taken in by the people of a small town when they assume him to be a long lost son and World War II hero, set against the backdrop of the Hollywood Communist witch hunt of the 1950’s from a respected Oscar nominated filmmaker and starring a lead actor who was in the midst of a dramatic left turn in his career with back to back Golden Globe wins for Best Actor.

When the Blob first appeared in 1958, the creature was presented in very simple ways. It was just some silicone that had been dyed red. For some shots, it was a balloon that had red silicone smeared on it. But when The Blob was remade in 1988, the creature got a substantial upgrade. The special effects artists working on the remake were able to make the Blob even more dangerous and frightening. And that helped the film become one of the most popular remakes ever made. The long-running adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester made enough space for the brothers to encounter a wide array of ghosts, monsters, and other beings in Supernatural. During the show’s 15-season stint, Supernatural set a standard for horror and fantasy television, spawning its own universe with spinoffs in the same manner as other trendsetters of the genres like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Vampire Diaries. Leading men Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki got their breakout roles with the Winchester Brothers, and Supernatural similarly paved the way for the careers of other performers, such as Katie Cassidy and Misha Collins.

Even as the temperature outside continues to climb, the folks at Shudder are intent to send shivers down the spines of their loyal viewers. Soon he is threatening every part of her life, secretly watching even her most intimate moments. Her tough-talking lover (Michael Sarrazin) can't console her.

Eye candy without much to offer the brain or emotions, “Hell Fest” is a competently crafted slasher film rendered instantly forgettable by its disinterest in character, plot, and motivation, let alone original ideas. An early Halloween salvo, it will be gone from theaters before that holiday (or even the latest screen “Halloween”) arrives, but should in the short term satisfy that seasonal itch among horror fans before bigger, better fright-fests arrive.

After the obligatory prior-victim’s-fate prelude, we meet the film’s college student protagonists, who are young and cute but not much else. Natalie (Amy Forsyth) reunites with ex-roomie Bff Brooke (Reign Edwards) — the movie suggests there’s some reason why they haven’t seen each other for a while, but never gets around to explaining it — while less enthusiastically renewing acquaintance with Brooke’s irksome new flatmate Taylor (Bex Taylor-Klaus).

Nonetheless, all three are soon off to Hell Fest,...

Shout! Factory sublabel Scream Factory has come a long way in the five and a half years since they first appeared on the scene in 2012 with Halloween II. What was once a company focused on big name horror films missing from Blu-ray, has become as much a niche distributor as some of the smaller companies, grabbing oft requested films and doing the work to get them out in the best editions possible. Two recent releases that caught my eye are the recent Us Blu-ray debuts of Dan O'Bannon's Lovecraft adaptation The Resurrected, and Tom DeSimone's '80s ghost story Hell Night. When a student enters college, some of them take part in fraternities and sororities which they believe allows them to establish ties for business opportunities once they graduate.

Others join these groups to gain a new family which helps them adjust in college life. However, not all memberships in fraternities and sororities are good ones because some of these hopefuls end up experiencing the worst form of hazing or initiation to get in these groups.

In the United States, victims of hazing incidents were either humiliated in public and some even died in the process.

Although efforts have been launched to stop college hazing in the country, hazing rituals continue to plague several universities and colleges and they have increased in numbers.

When I was a teenager, the Boy Scout troop that I was a member of consisted of nearly 25 scouts. We had a few older scouts whom the rest of the younger scouts looked up to, and during our weekend camping trips the seniors made every effort to scare the beejezus out of us youngsters with ludicrous tales of ghosts or killers hiding out in the woods. These stories were often woven around a campfire in the late hours of the evening when we were all seemingly vulnerable. During the summer of 1980, Sean Cunningham’s Friday the 13th was doing well at the box office, so I was already aware of these “murderers in the woods”-themed films. This didn’t make it any easier for us to go on camping trips! The success of Friday the 13th gave birth to countless carbon copies of young adults-being-stalked-in-the-woods films.

Every year during the Halloween season, I make a point of searching out at least one horror movie that I've never seen before. This year I started going through some horror movies from the 1980s, and as you might expect, a lot of them look like ridiculous yet entertaining flicks. Since Halloween is coming up, I thought it would be fun to make a list of some of these movies that I came across that I have never heard of before and ones that maybe you haven't seen before either. I included a short synopsis, poster, and trailer for each one. Make sure you watch the trailer because some of them are sure to make you laugh. I love these kinds of films!

You know, you dream about a moment like this watching a live awards show, and when it happens, you don’t know what to say.

One of those moments happened tonight during The 41st Daytime Emmy Awards.

But let’s go back a bit, to the Red Carpet pre-show, which was such a clusterf*ck of bad cues, missed lines, and giggling presenters, I was convinced everyone involved must have thought it a dress rehearsal. In the closing moments, someone shouted out “Sorry if my nipples fell out.” I was hoping it was Chandler Massey, but he was a no-show before the program (and if the red carpet seemed rushed, it was probably because they had to get it back to Crazy Ray’s Rug Rentals before 10 Pm)

That’s how … low budget … this show was. Another clue? When the show started and Kathy Griffin began her monologue, the livestream...

This season of RuPaul’s Drag Race upended the rules, as 2 groups of queens were introduced separately, and that decision is obviously going to impact the entire season.

Both groups became instant cliques (thank Goddess they’ve stayed away from any “Heather” references), and when it’s time to choose two teams this week, they keep their original groups. Unfortunately, for Group One (led by Adore Delano), it may not last long, as they are clearly the weakest team, and expect to see their clique whittled away each week.

This week the challenge is to act in a drag horror movie franchise, and it features guest judges Lena Headey and Linda Blair, and let’s just say that nothing on display here can come close to matching Linda’s performance in Hell Night.

Teen Wolf season 3 to timeline jump & more in the second half,new spoilers. As previously reported, Entertainment Tonight , squeezed new spoiler intel from Teen Wolf Executive Producer, Jeff Davis,recently, and in this last segment, we learned that the 2nd half of season 3, is going to timeline jump ahead a little bit. A few weeks to be exact,and we're also going to see some crazy Halloween shit go down that we should be very afraid of. Jeff told them when asked about the timeline jump: "Only a few weeks. I will also say that the first episodes are a two-parter that act as one story. Then, the next two episodes revolve around Halloween and the night before Halloween: Hell Night, which is sometimes called Mischief Night. All I will say is, be afraid, be very afraid." Season 3 is scheduled to start back up on January 6th, 2014. Stay tuned.
