Woody Fraser Dies: Prolific Producer Behind ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ & ‘Good Morning America’ Was 90

Woody Fraser, a prolific producer, creator and director behind such successful variety and news shows like The Mike Douglas Show and Good Morning America, died at the age of 90 on Saturday.

He was nominated for numerous Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on series like The Mike Douglas Show, GMA, The Dick Cavett Show and The Richard Simmons Show; in 1982, he won the award for the lattermost show, shared with his wife Noreen Fraser, also a producer, who died in 2017 from breast cancer. Notably, Fraser is responsible for establishing GMA as the foremost morning news and entertainment program during his tenure as the show’s first executive producer.

The news, first reported by Variety, was confirmed by Fraser’s daughter Stacy.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who worked with Fraser and considered him a friend, also confirmed the death via social media, writing, “Woody Fraser was EP of my @FoxNews TV show & a TV pioneer.

Woody Fraser, the prolific American producer and director best known for launching “The Mike Douglas Show” and “Good Morning America,” has died. He was 90.

Variety confirmed that Fraser died Saturday afternoon, via his daughter Stacy. More details will become available in the coming days.

Fraser has remained one of the most successful TV producers in entertainment history, specifically in the talk, news and variety programming spaces. In his roughly 50 years in Hollywood, Fraser amassed credits on “The Dick Cavett Show,” “The Richard Simmons Show,” “On Trial,” “What Would You Do?,” “The Family Challenge,” “That’s Incredible!,” “The Home Show” and more.

Long-time collaborator and fellow producer E.V. Di Massa Jr. took to Facebook Sunday to remember his mentor and friend.

“My mentor and a true producing genius Woody Fraser passed,” Massa wrote, sharing a picture of them together. “So many memories. Here we are accepting the Mike Douglas Lifetime Award at the Emmys.

Arthur Forrest, Director on ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ and ‘The Dick Cavett Show,’ Dies at 95

Arthur Forrest, a television legend with a 75-year career that covered long-running hits such as “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and “That’s Incredible!,” died on Oct. 25. He was 95.

Marcy Forrest, Arthur’s wife, confirmed the death to Variety.

Born in 1926 in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx as a first-generation American, Forrest completed his education at NYU and landed a job at DuMont Network’s studio as a janitor. After learning the business, Forrest went from janitor to page, from page to studio assistant, all the way up to the cameraman on “The Honeymooners” and “Captain Video.”

After leaving DuMont and working for New York’s Channel 5, Forrest directed the popular children’s show, “Wonderama,” and stayed at the station until 1973, when he left to direct the late night “Dick Cavett Show.”

SEC hits Levin, 2 others with fraud charges
The Securities and Exchange Commission filed fraud and other charges Wednesday against producer Drew S. Levin and several former associates. Levin, a 25-year industry veteran whose credits range from That's Incredible! and Totally Hidden Videos to reality TV projects, is accused with regard to Team Communications Group Inc., a production company where he served as CEO. Levin's attorney issued a statement calling the charges "without merit" and accused the SEC of delaying on filing these charges for more than four years. "We will use this opportunity to pursue through the federal court the additional facts that will prove that Mr. Levin is absolutely blameless on all the claims the SEC asserts," defense attorney Peter Sheridan said. "The sales that the SEC bases its claims on are five- and six-year-old contracts entered into by Team's subsidiaries and were known to Team's auditors and counsel."...
