The Crow was a massive hit when the comic book tale was eventually released in May, 1994, but sadly, its star was no longer here to witness its success. The Crow is a dark, brooding, gothic, action filled meditation on revenge, justice, love, and the afterlife, strengthened with bits of dark humor and a haunting performance by the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident.
The Crow is remembered for Lee's brilliant portrayal of the movie's hero, musician Eric Draven, who returns from the dead to extract revenge on the Motor City thugs who murdered both him and his fiancé. A supernatural bird guides Draven through Detroit on Devil's Night, one year to the date after crime kingpin Top Dollar ordered his henchmen to kill the soon to be wed young couple. One by one, Eric makes his way through Tin Tin, Funboy, T-Bird, and Skank, until...

So, whilst Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump are comparing the size of their nuclear weapons and super-storms are battering the world’s coastlines, the head of Nato is describing the present moment as the “most dangerous in a generation”. With any luck, the inevitable apocalypse may bring with it some fun real-life zombie larks to bring some light to the fast-approaching nuclear winter: what more prescient documentary-drama could there be, therefore, than Re-Animator cult hero Brian Yuzna’s Return Of The Living Dead 3?
Resurrected this month on Blu-ray as part of the gloriously tacky Vestron Video Collection, the second sequel to Dan O'Bannon’s classic eighties comedy horror adopts more of an angsty nineties tone as the monster-making Trioxin chemical returns to cause havoc all over again,...

You know you’re in trouble when the matriarch of a horror movie is determined to make this “the best Christmas ever.” Australia’s latest genre export is in keeping with the country’s cinematic tradition of brutality, if not necessarily the quality— Craig Anderson’s “Red Christmas” isn’t exactly a lump of coal in your stocking, but neither is it worth waking up early for on the big day.

Offering something to offend viewers from many walks of life, Craig Anderson's Red Christmas uses Jesus' birthday as an occasion for an abortion-themed slasher pic whose boogeyman happens to have Down syndrome. The literal-minded may also take offense at the film, and not just because its Yuletide horrors are being delivered in the dog days of summer. But some horror buffs will appreciate this irreverent little gorefest, especially those with a nostalgic soft spot for topliner Dee Wallace, the scream queen of The Hills Have Eyes and The Howling (not to mention E.T.) who remains impressively prolific even as she...

Owning a Mogwai is a lot of a responsibility and if you're not careful, you get Groblins! Corey Feldman is here to save the day in this Nerdist Comedy Short that imagines what a new Gremlins movie might look like. And it's insanity to the highest level.
Forget Corey Feldman's wackadoo performance on the Today Show. This latest video proves that he is a God walking amongst men as he parodies his own heightened persona, playing a sheriff who must save the world from the Groblins! Though Gremlins 3 has been teased for over thirty years, it's safe to say it probably isn't happening anytime soon. So Groblins arrives as the next best thing.

This weekend I went to the Son of Monsterpalooza horror convention and attended a panel for a new horror movie coming out called Death House, and this movie looks absolutely insane!
The movie was directed by B. Harrison Smith, who says that he made Death House as a way to help reinvigorate the horror genre. “Kill or Be Killed” (2015) aka “Red on Yella, Kill a Fella,” is a low budget horror-western released on DVD by Rlj Entertainment that also attempts to be a tribute to the spaghetti westerns of the 60s and 70s and Sam Peckinpah’s “The Wild Bunch.” The plot is about a gang of outlaws in the year 1900 traveling 500 miles through Texas to get to a stash of gold that’s hidden at the bottom of a well in the sand dunes of Galveston Beach. The group is hounded on their journey by a mysterious being and one by one the gang members get picked off.
Like Peckinpah’s Wild Bunch these outlaws are a motley crew. Their leader, Claude “Sweet Tooth” Barbee, played by co-writer/director Justin Meeks, is very loosely based on real-life outlaw Sam Bass. As Meeks portrays him, Barbee is a man obsessed with...

Last year Bruce Campbell talked about an idea for a horror movie that he described as The Expendables of horror films — a film that would bring together a ton of classic horror stars together in one movie. It was a great idea that got horror fans really excited and is now being brought to life. Unfortunately, it’s not coming from Bruce Campbell.
The movie is being directed by B. Harrison Smith, who has made a few movies that I’ve never heard of like Camp Dread and Zombie Killers: Elephant Graveyard. The script for the film was written by the late Gunnar Hansen, who is best known for playing Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.
The cast of the movie is pretty impressive and includes Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Bill Moseley (House of a 1000 Corpses), Michael Berryman...

The Beast
• Release Date: Available Now on Blu-ray
• Written By: Walerian Borowczyk
• Directed By: Walerian Borowczyk
• Starring: Sirpa Lane, Lisbeth Hummel, Elisabeth Kaza
I absolutely love the off-kilter, ridiculously horny horror flicks of Polish madman Walerian Borowczyk! While undoubtedly a master of softcore shenanigans, ol’ Borowczyk plied his trade in the horror biz as well (most notably with The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Miss Osbourne), and the film I’m goin’ to be turnin’ my putrid peepers on today, The Beast!
Originally created for (and then cut from) Borowczyk’s Immoral Tales anthology (also available from Arrow on Blu-ray, but I opted out on that one as it’s primarily a horror-less softcore art film), La Bête (the footage of which now comprises a sizeable chunk of The Beast) presented the simple tale of a young lass who has copious amounts of sex with a continuously ejaculating werewolf...

It is fitting that Tourist Trap came out in 1979. This was a year of variety in horror with everything from Ridley Scott’s Alien to Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. From space creatures to the walking dead and all points in between, this was the end of a decade and Tourist Trap couldn’t have been made at any other time. It’s magnificently weird.
Released in March by Compass International Pictures, Tourist Trap was not a commercial or critical success. That’s a real shame because it possesses a unique ability to get under the skin of the viewer with the oddest of fears: Mannequins. Have you ever been shopping and felt the dead eyed gaze of these department store statues? Ever felt they were watching…and waiting? Well sit back and strap in as things are about to get strange.

People are seeing shadow monsters with talons for hands before a loved one ends up dead. Despite no one else being in the house, they claim they're innocent. Doesn't that sound like something that would happen on Supernatural? It's just "Mr. Scratch," a Matthew Gray Gubler-directed and Breen Frazier-written episode of Criminal Minds.
Frazier and Gubler have teamed up twice before -- on season 6's "Lauren" and season 9's "Blood Relations" -- and this is easily the scariest, most twisted episode they've put together yet. When it comes to an episode directed by Gubler, I have certain expectations. I expect to probably be scared at some point. I expect some creepy visuals, perhaps one or two that stay with me after the episode. I expect there to be a moment that trumps anything from his previous turns behind the camera. I previously ranked his episodes from least to most horrific,...

The 5th Annual Mile High Horror Film Festival was a twisted cornucopia of live performance artists, vendors, horror icons, FX artists, shorts, full length features, classics, and live industry panel discussions that drew the most rabid of fans. The repetitious problem of this particular festival is that it is structured in such a way it is impossible to see and do everything, leaving the most enthusiastic of attendees with nagging doubts and fear of “missing something”.
Opening night featured the original 1977 The Hills Have Eyes with all it’s glorious, non-pc dialogue. Original star Michael Berryman (Pluto) provided behind the scenes stories in an engaging Q&A session preceding the screening.

Let me tell ya, creeps, nothin’ gets the ol’ Xiii’s motor hummin’ quite like a fright flick that is more akin to a fever dream than one of yer more pedestrian linear narratives. And for my money (roughly equivalent to $1.32 Us cash and a third party, out of state, presumably bad check for $16.45), no one does it better than Director Dante Tomaselli! Hello, and welcome to The Best Of Number Two here at The Liberal Dead. We haven’t done any kind of theme for a long time, so I thought I would reach out to some some talented people from other sites, and see if we can put something together. I decided it would be a theme about the best second films in a franchise/series. Expect discussion about Metamorhosis: The Alien Factor, The Devil’s Rejects, C.H.U.D. II, Blade II, Sleepaway Camp II, Amityville 2, Island of the Fishmen, The Dark Knight, Final Destination 2, House II and more.

Series star Matthew Gray Gubler has once again taken a turn behind the camera, and like almost all of the other episodes he has directed, this week's Criminal Minds looks like it's going to be another creepy one. If you're not so sure, just take a look at the promo!
In this week's episode, "Blood Relations," the Bau is called in when two murder victims are found in a backwoods community in West Virginia. The team discovers that there's a long-simmering feud between the two families, but which side is responsible for the deaths? The guest stars include Adrienne Barbeau, Tobin Bell and Ronnie Gene Blevins as members of the two families, the Howards and the Lees.

McM Comic Con and Memorabilia Birmingham take place this weekend, March 22nd-23rd, at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Unlike the huge event that is McM Comic Con London, this event is on a smaller scale – focusing more on memorabilia and the attending autograph guests. Having always attended the London event we took time out last November to attend our first McM Comic Con/Memorabilia Birmingham and enjoyed it so much we’re heading back this weekend.
But why should you attend? Well here’s out Top 5 reasons to attend McM Comic Con/Memorabilia Birmingham:

As with any McM event, the guest list for Birmingham is packed with a veritable smorgasbord of actors and actresses from movies, television and anime. Plus for the more grown-up nerds there’s even an appearance from the odd glamour model and porn star!
