“There are a lot of scenes where Michael Myers is observing his victims through some kind of screen, window, or sheet until he’s suddenly on the other side and the result is unspeakable terror. The fence, whether it’s white picket or chain link, is a staple of suburbia, but ultimately, an illusion of safety,” said Tong.

“Michael Myers goes right through the fence and violently intersects the lives of all the characters in the film, all contained within the fence that could never have kept them safe. While there’s no scene that literally shows The Shape going through a fence, it was a great visual to organize the...

‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Review: The Freak Accident Franchise Beats the Odds with Its Best Film Yet
Image
The high-rise restaurant disaster that kicks off “Final Destination Bloodlines” has a “Looney Tunes” quality to it that some critics will falsely pin on a single falling piano. Yes, there is a thousand-pound string instrument that comes crashing down several stories before flattening a bratty kid in a bow tie. But that’s just the cherry on top of a perfectly cartoonish opening to the best film this fiendish horror franchise from the 2000s has ever known. Delivering the most visually impressive, emotionally compelling, and quick witted “Final Destination” to date, co-directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein work wonders with a reboot that shouldn’t land nearly as well as it does.

Twenty-five years since Flight 180 failed to reach Paris, New Line’s freak accident series — infamous for its mass-casualty events and Rube Goldberg-inspired kill sequences — returns with an unconventional script written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans. Here,...

Jamie Lee Curtis Explains Why She Did Yogurt Commercials At The Height Of Her Movie Career
Image
Jamie Lee Curtiswas at the height of her fame when she began to do commercials, and she has a very practical reason for becoming a product spokesperson. Curtis first burst on the scene in the late 1970s as a horror movie scream queen thanks to movies like Halloween and Prom Night, but she would soon jump to mainstream movies as the decade wore on, playing a wide variety of roles from comedic to dramatic and everything in between. Movies like True Lies were some of her biggest financial hits, but that was also when she began doing commercials.

Curtis continued to find success in film, but it was her spokesperson gigs for the yogurt company Activia that began to gain a lot of attention. With spoofs on shows like Saturday Night Live, Curtis' new gig as a commercial actor overshadowed her big-screen work. Curtis would announce a retirement from acting in 2006 that didn't last long,...

Christina Applegate Is 'Very Proud' of Her 34-Year-Old 'Complete Flop'
Image
Christina Applegate says she still feels "very proud" of her work in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Applegate opened up about the film on the latest episode of her podcast, MeSsyWith Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. "I didn't wanna do it, because it was a commercial film. I was so into indies back then," Applegate recalled. "I was like, 'I'm only gonna do independent film acting.' I was such a f---ing asshat."

Applegate went on to note that, while she believed at the time that she was effectively selling out as an actor, she still had fun working on the film. Applegate also explained that she is proud of Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead at this point in her career, especially because of the specific place it holds in the wider realm of pop culture. Iconic and terrifying Five Nights at Freddy's animatronic Springtrap is coming to Dead by Daylight, the long-running asymmetrical multiplayer horror game. The announcement was made at a live broadcast from Pax East, with more details revealed on the Dead by Daylight website. Image
Matthew Lillardwill return as William Afton sooner than expected. Dead By Daylight will bring the world of Five Nights at Freddy'sto their catalog as part of a highly-anticipated downloadable package. What will surprise fans of the franchise is the fact that the video game has managed to recruit Matthew Lillard to voice the dangerous Springtrap. The villain is the result of the horrific accident William Afton went through, in which the spring locks of his mascot suit stabbed him several times. In a supernatural way, Afton managed to survive the accident. The decaying corpse eventually becomes the main antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's.

Clown In A Cornfield – Review
Image
Last week, the big Summer cinema season kicked off with another trip to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with another Impossible Mission and a Disney remake debuting in just a few weeks. So, does that mean that horror fanatics (Aka “gore-hounds”) will have to wait for the cooler temps for their “fright fix”? Well, Rosario gave up some scares last week, and that late April “sleeper smash” Sinners is still dishing up some plasma with its blues soundtrack. So, why not a new chiller featuring the “go-to” thriller icons of the last couple of decades? No, we’re not talking about more vampires, werewolves, or zombies, but less supernatural creeps. Yes, it’s those brightly garbed, painted-on-smiles, former kids entertainers, that are now nightmare “fodder” after several “Jokers” and Pennywise of the It flicks. And how about seeing their oversized feet tromping about the usually tranquil heartland? Who wouldn’t dash...

This Classic 90s Slasher Is Now Streaming on Netflix!
Image
The horror scene post-1996 was really just every studio under the sun trying to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle success of Scream. It wasn’t enough to be scary anymore—there needed to be an undercurrent of cleverness to ground the horror. The Faculty, Urban Legend, and franchise favorite Halloween H20 were all Scream riffs, and several of those boasted the involvement Scream scribe Kevin Williamson himself.

Of course, his most famous post-Scream writing credit was actually written long before he sold the spec script for what would become a legacy horror franchise. I’m talking about I Know What You Did Last Summer, an adaptation of Lois Duncan’s novel of the same name, though the source author famously (and reasonably) rejects the adaptation. With a new trailer for the forthcoming legacy sequel, also titled I Know What You Did Last Summer (Halloween (2018) really was influential, huh), why not revisit...

Gunn: Graham McTavish to star in Neil Marshall survival thriller
Neil Marshall in Paris promoting The Lair
Back in 2002, I witnessed director Neil Marshall’s werewolf movie Dog Soldiers in a packed theatrical screening at a 24-hour horror marathon where the audience around me laughed and cheered at all the right moments. It was a great viewing experience – and because Dog Soldiers was so cool that it could provide an experience like that, I have been rooting for Marshall ever since. His career has had its ups and downs, but I’m always glad to hear he’s working on something new – so I was pleased to see the Variety report that Outlander actor Graham McTavish has signed on to star in Marshall’s latest action horror survival thriller, Gunn.

Although Marshall usually writes his own films, he’ll be directing this one from a screenplay written by Doug Rao that won the Gold Prize at the Page International Screenwriting Awards a while back. The survival horror...

Danny McBride Delivers a Devastating Update for His New Vampire Series
Image
The Righteous Gemstones has ended, and HBO hitmaker Danny McBride is looking for his next project. Many horror fans were hoping that he would next turn his attention to The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, a 2020 novel by Grady Hendrix; a Max adaptation of the novel was announced last year, with both McBride and fellow Gemstone Edi Patterson on board. However, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McBride reveals that the project has stalled.

Set in the 1990s, Hendrix's book centers around an unfulfilled homemaker who joins a book club, only to enlist their help when she realizes one of her neighbors is a deadly vampire. Says McBride, speculating that the book's mixture of comedy and horror makes it a tough sell: "We haven’t gotten much momentum on it. Even at HBO, it’s tough making a 30-minute show ensemble that mixes genres. Really difficult.

The new creepy clown movieClown in a Cornfieldis already giving critics something to talk about beyond its goofy tone and the insane amounts of gore. The film had its debut at the SXSW festival this year, and it's set to release nationwide on May 9. However, early screenings have proven that the latest "killer clown" feature is a huge hit with critics. By the time of writing, it sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, a very good score for a slasher horror movie.

Clown in a Cornfield is based on Adam Cesare's novel of the same name, which won the 2020 Bram Stoker Award in the category of Best Young Adult Novel. The film is directed by Eli Craig, who co-wrote the script with Carter Blanchard. It stars Katie Douglas, Aaron Abrams, Carson MacCormac, Will Sasso and Kevin Durand, among others. Jaime Lee Curtis Shares Incredible IMAX View and Praise of 'Sinners'
Image
Jamie Lee Curtis, the horror icon and star of films like Halloween, The Fog and the Academy Award winner of Everything Everywhere All at Once, has become the latest celebrity to praise the spectacular Ryan Coogler vampire movie Sinners. Curtis went old-school, displaying her love for the film by taking a picture of the screen when she attended a 70 mm Imax show. and saying the experience had a "profound effect."

Ever since its release last April 18, Sinners has taken Hollywood by surprise. It's not only a powerful cultural statement, but it is a horror movie as well, a genre that many in the industry look down on. Critics and audiences have fallen under the spell of Sinners, which currently holds a 98% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, the appraisal wave has also included several of Coogler's colleagues in the film industry, who have voiced their love for the movie.

John Carpenter’s 1998 Classic on Netflix Is a Must-Watch Western Horror Throwback, And It’s Not the ‘Halloween H20’
Image
When you hear John Carpenter’s 1998 classic, your mind immediately goes to Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. However, Carpenter was not involved in this seventh instalment of the Halloween franchise. He turned down the directing gig of the film after the Weinstein brothers rejected his salary demand of $10 million.

Carpenter instead committed to the vampire genre film, Vampires, starring James Woods. The 1990s weren’t kind to Carpenter, as none of his films up until Vampires made any financial gains for the studios despite the fact that many of them went on to become cult hits. The 1998 film broke this pattern and went on to become financially successful.

The Celebrated Film Guillermo del Toro Calls “A genre supernova” Is Now Free-To-Stream
Image
Who doesn’t love John Carpenter’s Halloween? It’s one of the greatest horror films of all time. We have Halloween to thank for the slasher boom of the ‘80s. The flick was a resounding success that resonated with critics and fans in equal measure. Not to mention, it also inspired future generations of filmmakers. Speaking of filmmakers upon whom the film imprinted in a meaningful way, Guillermo del Toro counts himself a massive fan of this beloved feature.

The Pacific Rim director once took to Twitter (I still refuse to call it X) to proclaim his undying appreciation for the flick. His tweet reads: “Halloween by John Carpenter. A genre supernova. Creates a taxonomic category that still lives. Unsparing precision, simplicity and elegance.”

Mr. del Toro said it far better than I could. Halloween is a benchmark of genre filmmaking to which all subsequent slashers will be compared,...

The ‘M3GAN’ ‘Second Screen’ Chatbot Is an Epic Fail — and Offers Another Dire Warning for Our Future
Image
While the rest of the world was in Easter mode, Blumhouse hatched a deliciously blasphemous bit of counterprogramming the horror shingle is calling “Halfway to Halloween.” Basically, producer Jason Blum is capitalizing on fans’ year-round appetite for scary movies by putting three of the company’s biggest hits — “M3GAN,” “Annabelle” and “Ma” — back in theaters for one day apiece, six months removed from Halloween.

As I settled into my seat for the April 30 screening of “M3GAN” (the 2023 murder-doll thriller that ranks right up there with “Get Out” and “Glass” among the company’s top-grossing films), Blum appeared in a pre-recorded message on screen to compliment the halfway full room of horror movie die-hards for celebrating what he called “the most sacred of made-up holidays.”

With “M3GAN 2.0” scheduled for release this summer, I figured we might get an early tease of what’s to come in the sequel — or, if we were really lucky,...

The movie premiered earlier this year at Sundance and received a rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics. Together stars real-life married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco, who play a couple who trigger a supernatural incident that changes their entire relationship, existence, and physical form. Ahead of the movie's release this summer, Neon just revealed an eerie sneak peek.

'Cujo' Star Reveals Stephen King's Reaction to the Movie's Ending After It Was Changed
Image
When you think about Stephen King movies from the 1980s, there are a few classics that immediately come to mind. The Shining, Stand By Me, The Dead Zone, and, of course, 1983's Cujo. Directed by Lewis Teague, who can forget the horrifying tale of a rabid St. Bernard terrorizing a mother and her son trapped in a Ford Pinto on a blistering-hot summer day? Both the book and the movie managed to strike a chord with audiences, not only because of the subject matter, but also because of the way each one ended. Now, star Dee Wallace has revealed King's reaction to the film's conclusion, which was noticeably different from his novel.

Appearing on Still Here Hollywood with Steve Kmetko, Wallace spoke at length about her incredible career, which has included appearances in Steven Spielberg's E.T., The Howling, Rob Zombie's Halloween, and Cujo. Wallace played Donna Trenton in the King film,...

No matter how many times Loomis screams into the void “Die, Michael, Die!” He always comes back for more. The good news is that all this madness has created an entire gallery of violent injury and death for us to peruse at our leisure. Today, we’ll be doing just that. Welcome to Best of the Bad Guys, where we celebrate the best of horror’s worst villains. Today, we’re ranking the many deaths of Michael Myers. Now, when I say “deaths,” I mean it loosely. 15 Best Movies Of The 1970s, Ranked
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Cinema changed in the 1970s. After countless Westerns and studio-driven productions, the decade gave way to independent filmmaking and ushered in a handful of creative titans. Filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and Brian De Palma laid the groundwork on which modern cinema was constructed, for better or worse. Stars such as Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Carrie Fisher, Sylvester Stallone, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Harrison Ford became household names, and the once tame cinematic landscape was tossed aside in favor of more complex character studies brought to life by naturalistic performances, raw visuals, and shocking violence.

Blockbuster films like "Star Wars" were just coming into existence and charted a unique course with enormous financial results, but smaller, more personal productions like "Rocky" and "Halloween" snuck between the larger tentpoles and captured the imagination of audiences.

The History of the Universal Monsters: How ‘The Invisible Man’ Nearly Vanished Into Hollywood Limbo [Halloweenies Podcast]
Michael Van Wijk in Gladiators (1992)
In 2025, the Halloweenies are celebrating the storied legacy of the Universal Monsters. Dracula, Wolf Man, Frankenstein, his Bride, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Invisible Man… all will be covered. In fact, each monster is getting their own month, giving the Halloweenies plenty of time to dig deep into their respective origins and chart their influence over the past century and some change.

Last month, the gang traveled to ancient Egypt to unravel Karl Freund‘s 1932 classic The Mummy starring Boris Karloff. This month, they book a night at The Lion’s Head Inn to unravel the sordid and wild discoveries behind James Whale‘s 1933 Hollywood wonder The Invisible Man starring Claude Rains.

Topics include: the movie’s long road to realization, Rains’ commanding presence, H.G. Wells’ approval over script, the iconic and groundbreaking special effects, Whale’s resistance to returning to horror post-Frankenstein, the fact that...

30 Years Ago, A John Carpenter Box Office Bomb Marked A Turning Point For The Horror Master
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"I had much higher hopes." Those are the words of "Star Wars" icon Mark Hamill when asked by the folks at the Alamo Drafthouse what he thought of 1995's "Village of the Damned." Hamill also noted that "The Wolf Rilla one is still the best." Indeed, Rilla's 1960 version of the story is regarded as one of the best horror movies of the '60s to this day. Unfortunately, despite the remake being put in the hands of an unquestioned horror master, it didn't have the same impact.

The horror master in question is John Carpenter, one of the best horror directors of all time thanks to his work on movies such as "Halloween" and "The Thing," among many others. Carpenter has...

15 Best Movie Opening Title Sequences Of All Time
Image
Opening title sequences are dying a slow death. Though they may have been replaced by the closing credits sequence (thanks Marvel), even those are a rare treat. Filmmakers simply don't deliver a 2.5-minute opening title sequence that often, perhaps suspecting today's viewers don't have the patience. Blame our micro-second attention spans, somewhere between fruit flies and goldfish. Or maybe -- considering every other movie is a 2.5-plus-hour epic -- filmmakers simply don't want to spend one second on scenes they didn't shoot. Whatever the reason, it's a darn shame, as great opening title sequences have often contributed greatly to cinematic masterpieces. So we're going to celebrate the best!

Firstly, we're saluting opening title sequences, not opening credits scenes. What's the distinction? While a title sequence is separate from the movie itself, whjile a scene occurs within the movie. Secondly, this is not a ranking. Honestly, we're not even sure how...

Jamie Lee Curtis to executive produce Darkly series for Blumhouse Television
Image
Despite being heralded as one of the most iconic scream queens of all time after playing Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise, Jamie Lee Curtis once claimed that she didn't like horror movies. However, she sure loves being part of them!

Not only did Curtis return for Blumhouse's Halloween reboot trilogy, but she also recently joined the cast of new film Return to Sender with Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian. Next, Deadline reports that the actress will executive produce a television show for Blumhouse based on Marisha Pessl's bestselling novel Darkly.

Released in November 2024, Darkly is a YA mystery thriller novel published by Penguin Random House. It is about a girl named Arcadia "Dia" Gannon and her obsession with a series of intriguingly terrifying games and toys designed by the Darkly empire. Thunderbolts* Director Originally Wanted Man-Thing on the MCU Team
Image
Marvel’s upcoming movie Thunderbolts is just around the corner, and director Jake Schreier has shared something interesting — he originally wanted Man-Thing to be part of the team.

In an interview, Schreier revealed, “I think there was a point during pitching when I really wanted Man-Thing to be on the team.” He was talking about the early stages of planning the movie, when different characters were being considered for the lineup.

But Marvel Studios had different plans for the swamp creature. Instead of joining the Thunderbolts team, Man-Thing made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2022’s Werewolf by Night Halloween special. Schreier said that change “worked out for the best,” suggesting he’s happy with how things turned out in the end.

Marvel legend joins the cast of the next Godzilla x Kong movie
Image
It's pretty apt that the next movie in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise is generating such discussion around Easter time, for it was Easter last year that saw the most recent film in the series take the world by storm upon its release. This year, it's all about the casting, as the film has added yet another major star to its ever-growing cast.

The third movie in the Godzilla x Kong saga and sixth overall in the MonsterVerse film series (and to feature at least one of the titular movie monster legends), the upcoming sequel was commissioned off the back of the monumental success of last year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. And for this new, somewhat unanticipated next chapter in the franchise, the monsters are reeling in some big stars.

The most recent addition to the line-up comes in the form of a Hollywood icon who knows a thing...

'The Breakfast Club' Cast Reunites for the First Time in 40 Years
Image
It's hard to question the legacy of a movie like The Breakfast Club. John Hughes' coming-of-age masterpiece of 1985 was a fascinating depiction of teenage angst, as seen from the perspectives of five students coming from different parts of '80s society. It was a game-changer for its young cast, who would then become part of the Brat Pack and pursue acting careers outside the stereotypes the movie built for them. Curiously, as famous as the film was and as timeless as it remains for its fans, in over 40 years, the cast has never reunited. That was until a few days ago, when Andrew, Brian, John, Claire, and Allison were seen together at a pop culture convention.

The Breakfast Club cast has reunited for the first time in 40 years, although not in a sequel to the beloved high school movie. As reported by People, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estévez,...

A ‘Halloween Ends’ Star Is Putting on the Bloody Santa Claus Suit in ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ Reboot
Image
Terrifier 3 saw the glorious return of the Christmas-themed slasher last fall. Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting aren't ready to stop making blood-red snow anytime as their reboot of the iconic and equally controversial '80s horror film Silent Night, Deadly Night will be coming down the chimney later this year. Fans of the slasher franchise have slowly been getting earlier seasonal treats like a teaser poster a few months back. Now, this version of Silent Night, Deadly Night has found their Billy in Halloween Ends star Rohan Campbell.

First reported by Bloody Disgusting, the reimagining is “blending psychological horror, brutal slasher thrills and a touch of the supernatural and, shockingly, a sprinkle of romance, the new film hopes to deliver a modern new take on the ultimate holiday nightmare.” Silent Night, Deadly Night is written and directed by Mike P.
