Disney+ Removes Original Movies & Series In Emea
Image
Updated: There has been another round of content removal from Disney+, this time in the Emea region, which consists of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. More than 120 titles have been taken off this week, primarily Disney Channel original movies and vintage Disney live-action films, as well as a few series, including Zeke and Luther, Pepper Ann, So Random and the first three seasons of Nat Geo’s Genius and ESPN/Nat Geo docs.

According to sources, the takedowns were a result of a library title review. There have been several content purges at Disney+ over the last year amid cost-cutting, most notably the removal of a slew of original series last May.

Here is a list of movie titles that are said to be gone from Disney+ in Emea, compiled by Drew Ryan.

A Tale of Two Critters

America’s Heart and Soul

Angry Sky (ESPN)

Babes in Toyland...

Jodie Foster Was Almost Princess Leia In ‘Star Wars’
Image
It’s not the ones you get that haunt you. It’s the ones you missed.

Jodie Foster says she almost played Princess Leia in Star Wars, but had a scheduling conflict.

Foster recalled her Star Wars moment on Wednesday’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I had a conflict, I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn’t want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract. So I didn’t do it,” Foster said.

That decision resulted in the forgettable 1977 film Candleshoe, with Foster as Casey Brown, an orphan who is recruited to find a long-lost treasure hidden in a stately home in England.

Foster mentioned that Leia’s iconic hairstyle might have been different had she taken the role.

“And they did an amazing job. I don’t know how good I would have been. And I might have had different hair,...

Jodie Foster Almost Played Princess Leia In Star Wars, But Disney Got In The Way
Image
The Jodie Foster-ssance is officially upon us, folks, and we couldn't be more pleased. It's certainly been a long road to get here. Arguably, the acclaimed actor's most high-profile project in decades came back in 2013, with her villainous turn in Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi movie "Elysium." (Disclaimer: We cannot emphasize enough how much heavy-lifting the word "arguably" is doing in that last sentence.) Other than that, it'd be the understatement of the century to say that Foster has been rather picky about her roles since bursting onto the scene in "Taxi Driver," before going on to redefine the very idea of horror protagonists in "The Silence of the Lambs." That's finally changed in a big way during the last several months, as Foster starred in the awards-hopeful (but somewhat controversial) "Nyad" and also came right out of the gate swinging in 2024 with "True Detective: Night Country."

But as we all know,...

Jodie Foster Says She Turned Down Princess Leia Due to a Scheduling Conflict
Image
It’s no secret that Jodie Foster was once up for the part of Princess Leia in Star Wars — a role that became iconic for Carrie Fisher. But in a new interview on The Tonight Show Foster explained that the only reason she passed was because of a scheduling issue.

“I had a conflict,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn’t want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract. So I didn’t do it.

Jodie Foster Is The Best Actor Ever
Image
In a 2021 interview with The New York Times, Jodie Foster, one of our most guarded movie stars, confessed, "I am a solitary, internal person in an extroverted, external job. I don't think I will ever not feel lonely. It's a theme in my life. It's not such a bad thing. I don't need to be known by everyone."

Movie stardom can be a curse in this regard. Each performance, splashed across a big screen and examined time and again in the home-viewing format of your choosing, draws us near to them. We want to know them, befriend them, tear up the town with them... we want them. And since we are typically not an empathetic species (particularly in the United States), too many of us do not understand why these seemingly blessed individuals recoil from the public eye or feel ambivalent about their success.

This tension has been the central theme of Foster's career,...

Jodie Foster to Receive Lifetime Achievement Palme D'Or at Cannes
Image
This year's Cannes Film Festival will honor Jodie Foster with a lifetime achievement Palme d'Or, it was revealed yesterday. The two-time Oscar winning actress will accept the award on the 6th of July at the 74th Cannes Film Festival, and follows in the footsteps of other filmmakers such as Jane Fonda, Bernado Bertolucci and Jeanne Moreau who have all previously been recipients of the prize. As one of the best known actresses and directors of the last four decades, it is nothing short of the recognition Foster's career deserves.

In a statement making the announcement, the festival organisers said that the award symbolised her, "brilliant artistic journey" and said that she has been, "a unique personality with a modest yet strong commitment to some of the major issues of our time." In her own statement, Foster said, "Cannes is a festival to which I owe so much, it has completely changed my life.

Post-Walt’s Death: The Good, The Best, and The Rest
Walt Disney passed away December 15, 1966, and in the decade that followed, the Walt Disney Company struggled to define itself. Should the company stay beholden to Walt and his vision, asking themselves what Walt would do, or should they take the opportunity to try something new? The decades that followed Walt’s death were a mix of trying to recreate old magic and experimenting with new genres and styles.

Good – Bedknobs and Broomsticks

In Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Disney was returning to a tried-and-true formula, one that had worked beautifully in Mary Poppins. The screenplay was based on a book series by an English children’s author, the story of a magical woman and the children under her care. Mary Poppins’ director Robert Stevenson helmed the project, which combined live action and animation. Robert and Richard Sherman, the team responsible for Mary Poppins as well as numerous other classic Disney songs, wrote the music and lyrics.

Candleshoe
Jodie Foster stars in this zesty comedy caper as Casey, a streetwise orphan who is enlisted by con man Leo McKern to pass herself off as the long-lost granddaughter of an English aristocrat (Helen Hayes). Legend has it that there's a stash of treasure hidden somewhere on Lady Margaret's Candleshoe estate. But when Casey arrives in England, she learns that "grandma" doesn't have a penny and finds herself drawn into another ruse to help butler David Niven keep up appearances.

The AfterEllen.com Huddle: Jodie Foster's best role
Tags: AfterEllen.com HuddleJodie FosterThe AfterEllen.com HuddleIMDb

No matter what you thought of Jodie Foster's Golden Globes speech, you have to admit the woman is an all-star actress. She's been in more than 40 films and over 25 TV series, so it was hard to decide what her best role ever could be. It wasn't hard, though, to discuss how good she was in every single one.

Group, what's your favorite Jodie Foster film?

Dorothy Snarker: I absolutely, positively cannot pick just one because she was my very first crush. So there. Rules be damned. For sentimental reasons, Stealing Home because it came out during my formative years and I watched it on a seemingly endless loop on our family's contraband HBO feed. Those blue eyes mesmerized me. For action reasons, Flightplan because she took a role originally written for a male lead and helped to, again, show that women...

Foster files 'Flight Plan' at Touchstone
Jodie Foster is set to star in Flight Plan for the Walt Disney Studios' Touchstone Pictures label. Robert Schwentke is directing, while Brian Grazer is producing through Imagine Entertainment. The project is described as a Hitchcockian thriller in which a woman's daughter mysteriously disappears while on board a passenger jet. The film will be the first project that Foster has made at Disney in more than 25 years. Foster's last project for the studio was 1978's Candleshoe, though the Disney film she is most associated with is the 1977 comedy Freaky Friday. While working as a child star at Disney, she also appeared in 1973's One Little Indian and 1972's Napoleon and Samantha, which was her feature film debut. Flight Plan is based on a pitch from Peter Dowling. Billy Ray wrote the current draft. Robert DiNozzi is executive producing. Overseeing for Disney are Brigham Taylor and Louanne Brickhouse, while Jim Whitaker overlooks for Imagine. Flight Plan would be Foster's first outing since 2002's Panic Room. Foster has won two Oscars, for her performances in The Silence of the Lambs and The Accused. She is repped ICM and Matt Saver.
