It’s the end of an era on Wheel of Fortune, but it’s also about to be the start of a new one. Friday’s (June 7) episode of the series marks the send-off for iconic game show host Pat Sajak, who is leaving his spot on the stage after four decades, and next season, Ryan Seacrest will take over the enviable role. Seacrest has a great deal of experience emceeing reality shows after getting his start in kids shows like Gladiators 2000 and, of course, hosting American Idol since its inception. So when does his tenure at the top of Wheel of Fortune begin? Wheel of Fortune is expected to return for Season 42, which will be Seacrest’s first as the host, in September 2024. An official premiere date has not yet been announced, but Season 41 premiered on September 11, 2023, so it’ll probably be a similar timeline. Seacrest and Vanna White,...

It’s time to give the wheel a final spin. Pat Sajak is signing off as host of Wheel of Fortune after more than 40 years on the show.
Sajak’s last episode airs on Friday, June 7. The TV icon announced his decision to retire last year. Now that the time has come to say goodbye, he’s reflecting on his legacy.
“It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes, night after night, year after year, decade after decade,” he said in a farewell video (via Deadline). “And I always felt that the privilege came with the responsibility to keep this daily half-hour a safe place for family fun. No social issues. No politics. Nothing embarrassing, I hope. Just a game. But gradually it became more than that … Thank you for allowing me into your lives.”

Undeniably, Pat Sajak’s retirement from Wheel Of Fortune is taking a huge emotional toll on his beloved co-host, Vanna White. While there has been some time to absorb the idea of Pat leaving, the real event comes with a wave of difficult feelings.
Vanna White Takes Time To Look Back
As Wheel Of Fortune co-host, Vanna White, prepared for the exit of long-time host and “work husband,” Pat Sajak, there was no way to know how it would truly feel after working together for forty-one years. Undoubtedly, the week has been full of trips down memory lane. Admittedly, Vanna says she only remembers one fight she and Pat had through the years. She says innocently they can’t agree on whether ketchup should go on hotdogs. While bracing herself for tonight’s airing, June 7, of Pat’s “Final Spin,” she tries to pull together some words as they are parting ways.

With Pat Sajak’s final appearance as host of “Wheel of Fortune,” the makeup of a daily hour of television that structures the days of millions of Americans is shifting once more.
“Wheel of Fortune” is the low-pressure option of the two famous game shows invented by the late superproducer Merv Griffin. Unlike “Jeopardy,” it’s intended to be not aspirational but accessible, with simple word-puzzle games and a department-store glamour that comforts but doesn’t dazzle. And Sajak, along with Vanna White revealing the letters, has been at its center since relatively close to the beginning; he took over from Chuck Woolery in 1981, six years into the show’s run, and has since been honored by the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest continuous stint hosting a single game show.

While the Wheel Of Fortune will never be the same without long-time host and legend, Pat Sajak, he has other fish to fry. Although he is preparing and ready for the final spin to air, Pat had one leg out the door with his new gig already lined up before the season finale.
End Of An Era
Now that the final spin is about to air, it has been a week of memory lane for the Wheel Of Fortune cast. Admittedly, Pat Sajak knows it will be “okay” for him to move on from the life he’s known for more than four decades. Confessing to his daughter, Maggie Sajak, he says, “I’d rather leave a couple of years too early, than a couple of years too late.” Although he knows he could still give the show more time, he says there are some other things he would like to do in his life.

Phrases like "the end of an era" and "TV legend" might be tossed around a bit too often these days.
But in the case of Pat Sajak and the end of his 43-year run as host of Wheel of Fortune, such descriptions couldn't be more apt.
As you've likely heard by now, Sajak is retiring from the show that made him famous, and Ryan Seacrest will take over when Wheel returns for its 42nd season in September.
Seacrest is well-suited to the gig, and while he's got some very big shoes to fill, we're sure he's up to the task of introducing prize puzzles and selling vowels.
But it's unlikely that he'll ever be regarded as an indispensable weekday night staple, as Sajak was for so many decades.
There are many reasons for this, and only a few of them have to do with the respective charms and talents of...

Six months before Pat Sajak announced his retirement from his four-decade gig as the beloved star of Wheel of Fortune, his quick wit was still as sharp as ever. In what the host believed was a first, we met a comedy stage hypnotist, Brandon O’Brien, who became the day’s winningest contestant — a Ford Escape! — on the January 27, 2023, episode. At Sajak’s urging, Brandon described his act: “We get the volunteers up onstage, and then they relax, and they’ll pretty much do anything I ask them to do.” “Wow,” Sajak responded, not missing a beat. “It’s like being a game show host.” He should know. Few TV personalities have had the staying power of Sajak, and few have made it look so easy. No small feat in a profession that veteran game show producer Mark Goodson once likened to steering backward down a mountain, looking through the rearview mirror,...

As Pat Sajak counts down to the days until his final Wheel of Fortune episode on Friday (June 7), some contestants are testing his limits regarding their wild puzzle guesses. Wednesday’s (June 5) episode saw a showdown between Jp Welliver, a vacuum salesman from Lititz, Pennsylvania, Allison Willis, a construction worker and truck driver from Suffern, New York, and Nonie Lewis, a partying grandma from Dallas, Texas. It was Lewis who made Sajak momentarily lose his cool after she attempted to answer a puzzle under the “Food and Drink” category. Lewis, who revealed she’d previously auditioned for the show in the 1980s and the 2000s, was faced with a two-word puzzle with just two letters missing. The puzzle-board read: “S _ P E R _ O O D / S M O O T H I E.” “I would like to solve, Pat,” she said, looking confident. “What do you got?” Sajak asked.

Wheel of Fortune is a show that has sometimes been very padentic when it comes to wrong answers. A person with an accent will get a question counted wrong because of how they pronounced the word. However, in a recent episode, Pat Sajak gave a woman a second chance, and fans are unhappy about it.
Here is what happened, why fans were mad, and what the woman said about it in response.

In 1981, Merv Griffin was watching the Los Angeles local news when he noticed a Band-Aid over the weatherman’s right eye. The next time the camera cut back to the forecaster, the Band-Aid was over his left eye, which greatly amused the Wheel of Fortune creator. That weatherman was a young Pat Sajak, and his prank led to a phone call that changed his life. “Merv called me, and he said, ‘You ever think about doing game shows?’” Sajak recalled in a 2007 interview with the Television Academy Foundation. Sajak, now 77, has had this silly sense of humor since childhood, when the self-described “intelligent” class clown would entertain teachers by handing in two sets of tests, a real one and a version with funny answers. Born in Chicago on October 26, 1946 (a Scorpio), Patrick Leonard Sajdak (he later dropped the d) was drawn to entertainment from a young age. He didn’t rise early to watch cartoons.

Rumer from Scranton, Pennsylvania, who revealed he got the email to audition for Wheel three hours after his wife gave birth. Things got off to a rough start in Round 1 under the “Place” category when the three contestants where faced with a puzzle board that read, “_ R I S T I _ E / M _ _ _ T A I _ / _ A _ E.” Rumer had a solid guess of “Pristine Mountain Cave,” even if caves aren’t particularly known for their pristine conditions. But his guess allowed the others to fill in more letters,...

In just a handful of days, Wheel of Fortune fans will be saying goodbye to host Pat Sajak. He’s retiring after 41 seasons, and fans have known this was coming since June 2023. His final episode’s airdate, June 7, was set in April. So how did his final week as host, the aptly titled “Thanks for the Memories,” kick off? It all began with a clip of Pat Sajak and Vanna White from 1997, in which the two joke about the audience thinking of them as a married couple; they’d been working together for 15 years at that point and finished each other’s sentences. “Looks like they’re cleaning out the video files,” Sajak quipped as he and White walked out for the June 3 game. Then he got right to the game. One of the players, Joyce, was in the audience for ...

TV Guide Magazine profiled Wheel’s graceful letter-turning icon Vanna White in the March 4, 1989, issue. At the time, the 32-year-old former model was pulling double duty working on both the daytime version (with host Rolf Benirschke) and nighttime iteration (with Pat Sajak) of the game show, starting her business empire — and charming everyone along the way. It’s leather week on Wheel of Fortune. At least that’s the way it seems. In the three shows just finished taping, every skintight outfit Vanna White wore was leather. “I’ll be out in just a minute.” It’s White talking as she disappears into her dressing room to squeeze out of a leather dress for supper. A minute, two minutes pass, then a startling, “Ok, you ready?” and there she is — cheerleader extraordinaire, adolescent fantasy in the flesh — dressed for dinner in a blue terry-cloth bathrobe.
