Hazbin Hotel’s Controversial Season 1 Group Recasting Explained
Image
Five long years after Vivziepop’s 2019 release of the Hazbin Hotel YouTube pilot “That’s Entertainment!”, the animated musical series returned for its first season on Amazon Prime. However, the highly-anticipated release of Hazbin Hotel season 1 brought with it a major change that was met with criticism from the series’ cult following.

Between the 2019 release of the YouTube pilot and the 2024 release of season 1 via Amazon Prime and A24, Vivziepop re-auditioned each major role, leading to a group recasting of Hazbin Hotel. This new Hazbin Hotel season 1 cast was met with a good deal of pushback from Hellaverse fans who had been following the project since its Patreon-funded inception, and vague communication from the show creator led to speculation about the reasons behind this drastic change. However, the fact that Hazbin Hotel season 1 set a Prime Video streaming record seems to indicate that the change may have been for the better.

Of Course John Waters Loves ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ and Put It on His Top 10 of 2024: It’s ‘So Insane’ but Relatable
Image
John Waters is wading into the “Joker: Folie à Deux” critical controversy — and is already making a splash.

Waters released his annual list of the best films of the year, as published by Vulture, and bestowed the number six slot to Todd Phillips’ polarizing sequel.

“Finally, a love story I can relate to,” Waters wrote. “So insane, so well thought out, so well-directed, so much smoking! It’s ‘Jailhouse Rock’ meets Busby Berkeley with a 9/11 ‘That’s Entertainment!’ ending that will make you shake your head in cinematic astonishment.”

Waters added, “Stupid critics. Gaga so good. Joker so right. Die, dumbbells, die!”

“Joker: Folie à Deux” received quite the support from subversive auteurs like Quentin Tarantino, who said that director Phillips harnessed the Joker mentality while helming the feature.

“He’s saying fuck you to all of them. He’s saying fuck you to the movie audience. He’s saying fuck you to Hollywood.

Here Are All the Songs in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’
Image
“Joker: Folie à Deux” is dancing into theaters today.

The highly anticipated sequel, which returns Joaquin Phoenix to the grimy world of Gotham City and adds Lady Gaga as his Harley Quinn, is a very different movie than the $1 billion-grossing original. Chiefly: it’s a musical.

You see, when Harley and Arthur Fleck feel the world is getting too crazy, they slip into an alternate reality where they are a Sonny and Cher-style singing duo. Nobody can hear them sing or see them dance, but to the two of them, that’s all they’re doing. But is it enough to permanently escape the horrors of reality, where Harley is an inmate accused of burning down an apartment building and Arthur is on trial for multiple murders?

But what songs are Arthur and Harley belting out? Well, you’ll find the full list below, along with other songs that...

Lady Gaga’s Portrayal of Harley Quinn was Inspired by Charles Manson’s Followers
Image
The latest trailer for Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix’s upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux arrived earlier this week, giving us our latest look at the two’s respective portrayals of Harley Quinn and the Joker. Now, in a new interview with Empire, the film’s director, Todd Phillips, revealed that Gaga’s character takes some inspiration from the followers of Charles Manson.

Speaking about Gaga’s unique approach to bringing Quinn to life, Philips explained, “While there are some things that people would find familiar in her, it’s really Gaga’s own interpretation, and Scott [Silver, co-writer] and I’s interpretation.”

Continuing, he compared Quinn’s devotion to the Joker to the Manson Family’s devotion to their leader. “She became the way how Manson had girls that idolized him,” Philips said. “The way that sometimes these [imprisoned murderers] have people that look up to them. There are things about...

Turner Classic Movies Celebrates 30th Anniversary And Honors Former Host Robert Osborne
Image
Turner Classic Movies, the leading authority and definitive home of classic film, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on April 14, 2024. To honor the milestone, TCM will present on-air programming salutes featuring TCM staff who were there from the very beginning, as well as a 24-hour marathon of films with historical introductions from TCM’s first host and champion, Robert Osborne.

“How many other channels on television celebrate their anniversary? How many other channels’ fans know where they were the day a network launched?” says TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz. “I’m not sure either of those things are true without Robert Osborne. He’s the Walter Cronkite of TCM. The Johnny Carson. The Alex Trebek. With these intros of Robert’s, we’re celebrating his impact and his continued influence. Plus, as we do with the movies we show, we’ll put Robert into context. Additionally, we’ll also look back...

John Wayne in El Dorado (1966)
Restoration of John Wayne’s ‘The Searchers’ to Premiere at 2024 TCM Classic Film Festival
John Wayne in El Dorado (1966)
John Wayne’s 1956 Western “The Searchers” will debut a new restoration as part of the 2024 TCM Classic Film Festival in April. This marks the second Wayne film to receive a premiere of a restored print at the yearly event which takes place on Hollywood Boulevard; last year’s opening night feature was a 4K restoration of Wayne’s 1959 film “Rio Bravo.”

This year’s festival theme is “Most Wanted: Crime and Justice in Film.” Alongside “The Searchers” TCM announced that Frank Capra’s 1934 film “It Happened One Night,” Elia Kazan’s “On the Waterfront” and the 1974 musical documentary “That’s Entertainment!” will also screen as part of the four-day festival.

It’s unknown if “The Searchers” will be the film’s opening night movie, though considering “Rio Bravo” was also a restoration last year it would make sense that Warner Bros. would continue to debut new 4K prints of their films...

HBO Max New Releases: September 2021
James Wan
The summer movie season may be winding down, but HBO Max is keeping the movie ball rolling in September 2021. HBO Max’s list of new releases this month is heavy on the film side of things – both in library and original offerings.

Two Warner Bros. films of note arrive this month. The James Wan-directed horror tale Malignant premieres on Sept. 10 and is followed by Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho on Sept. 17. The next installment in Adventure Time: Distant Lands (which is kind of like a film series!) is titled Wizard City and opens the month on Sept. 2

Of course, it wouldn’t be a new month of HBO Max releases without some interesting evergreen Warner movie titles. Sept. 1 finds all eight Harry Potter movies returning to WarnerMedia’s streaming service. They will be accompanied by The Goonies, The Evil Dead, Cloverfield, and more. Later on in the month, Mortal Kombat (Sept.
