One Little Indian
2015 has been an exceptional year for both electronic and club music so far. Standout releases from genres as diverse as noise, grime, Idm, hip-hop, techno, R&B, footwork and grime have consistently strayed beyond the boundaries of where electronic music has gone previously. Old masters like Aphex Twin burst back onto the scene with floods of music uploaded to anonymous SoundCloud accounts. Soulful singers such as Kelela and Dawn Richard have been working alongside some of the weirdest producers around to generate bizarre R&B soundscapes. Club sounds have been chewed up and spat back out by the likes of Flava D, Lotic and M.E.S.H. There has been a notable trend towards electronic releases that use the voice as a instrument for exploring identity and gender.
Oh, and the incredible Björk put out another storming release with production credits and accompanying remixes from some truly forward-thinking DJs,...

Last summer, Icelandic experimentalist Bjork appeared in the hour-long Channel Four documentary, When Bjork Met Attenborough, which found the singer and British naturalist David Attenborough examining the parallels between nature and music. Now the project is being released internationally in DVD format on May 5th by One Little Indian.

The documentary (featuring narration from Tilda Swinton) was inspired by Bjork's 2011 multimedia project Biophilia, which encompassed her eighth studio LP (a spacey, textural affair that earned a four-star assessment from Rolling Stone's David Fricke), apps, installations...

Comedy has lost one of its great innovators -- Firesign Theatre founding member Peter Bergman died Friday, March 9, 2012 due to complications from leukemia. He and his cohorts reinvented comedy with surreal, multi-layered socio-political critiques and wild wordplay. Phil Austin, Bergman, David Ossman, and Philip Proctor debuted as the Firesign Theatre in 1966 and became cult heroes by breaking or ignoring boundaries with their surreal, complexly layered material. Their work forms an ongoing critique of modern society, media saturation, and technological alienation, but they are far from overly intellectual, lacing their routines with crazy puns, twisted pop-culture references, and warped -- or invented -- folk sayings and catchphrases. To appreciate their Dadaist comedy requires a long attention span, willingness to follow free associations, and attention to detail.
The prolific quartet dissolved in the '80s, though a 1985 album reunited three members. Proctor and Bergman also worked as a duo for a while.

BJöRK: Biophilia
(One Little Indian)
Usually with each new Björk album comes the often wishful mutterings of it finally representing her "return to pop", as if she's about to recreate Debut, move back to London and start dating Goldie again. Needless to say, Biophilia – an album prefaced by an elaborate iPad app and thematically encompassing the entire universe – isn't loaded with singles. Björk chooses instead to flit between the beautiful ("Cosmogony"), the downright creepy ("Hollow") and, in "Mutual Core", the world's first song about tectonic plates set to a ravey mesh of bleeps and whooshes. Lyrically, it finds Björk musing on both the universal and the personal in a way she's only hinted at before,...

In another senseless act of violence, the BBC reports that the Sony/Pias distribution centre warehouse in Enfield, North London was sadly destroyed in the riots in London on 8th August. Major labels such as Sony had their stock destroyed, but perhaps more disturbing is to hear of all the independent labels that have been affected. This will be this devastating to them and their artists who have worked so hard to build strong businesses around good independent music. Pias are the biggest distributor of indie labels in the UK. and they also had most of their stock destroyed.
Below is a list of the labels they handle distribution for;
[Pias] Recordings, [Pias] Recordings Belgium, 4Ad, A Camp, Absynthe Minded, Accidental, Aei Music, Air Recordings, Alc Music, Alsation, Ambush Reality, Ancient & Modern, Angular Recording Corporation, Arcady Records, Ark Recordings, Asthmatic Kitty Records, Atlantic Jaxx Recordings, Bad Magic, Balling The Jack, Banquet Records,...

Bjork has released the second single from her upcoming music project and seventh studio album Biophilia. 'Virus' was released as a download earlier today, and comes after the release of 'Crystalline' last month. The single was released through One Little Indian, as well as a special feature on her Biophilia App, available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. A description on the app describes it as: "A large cell surrounded by others floating on (more)...

Bjork's wiliest album adventure yet now has a release date for "proper" release: "Biophilia" will arrive on Sept. 27 via One Little Indian/Nonesuch, with all it's strings, pulleys, gadgets and bells intact. Of course, I'm referring to one of its most novel concepts, that each of the 10 tracks will have an accompanying audio-visual application. The "Biophilia" application will be available for free download to all-Apple products -- iPod, iPod Touch and the iPad -- but it's within that gratis application, users are enabled to purchase in-app apps (you follow?) for the songs of their choice. Today, that central app has...

Foster files 'Flight Plan' at Touchstone
Jodie Foster is set to star in Flight Plan for the Walt Disney Studios' Touchstone Pictures label. Robert Schwentke is directing, while Brian Grazer is producing through Imagine Entertainment. The project is described as a Hitchcockian thriller in which a woman's daughter mysteriously disappears while on board a passenger jet. The film will be the first project that Foster has made at Disney in more than 25 years. Foster's last project for the studio was 1978's Candleshoe, though the Disney film she is most associated with is the 1977 comedy Freaky Friday. While working as a child star at Disney, she also appeared in 1973's One Little Indian and 1972's Napoleon and Samantha, which was her feature film debut. Flight Plan is based on a pitch from Peter Dowling. Billy Ray wrote the current draft. Robert DiNozzi is executive producing. Overseeing for Disney are Brigham Taylor and Louanne Brickhouse, while Jim Whitaker overlooks for Imagine. Flight Plan would be Foster's first outing since 2002's Panic Room. Foster has won two Oscars, for her performances in The Silence of the Lambs and The Accused. She is repped ICM and Matt Saver.
