Colin Baker has claimed he and the regular cast were never told the series had been axed at all. In fact what appears to have happened is that the entire production team were under the assumption that they would automatically regroup the following year as usual for another run. However, nobody at the BBC had actually explicitly requested a recommissioning, and neither did anyone question why it wasn't included in the upcoming list of dramas to be mounted. Consequently, when the oversight was spotted, the budgets for the other series had been fully allocated and there was no money left to make an eighth season.
This series has just started being repeated on the excellent UK free view channel Talking Pictiures TV on Monday nights as from January 2024.
Every episode of "The Brothers" has been preserved in the television archives - a rare thing for a British programme of the times.
Referenced in the Endeavour (2012) episode Passenger (2018): a truck driver working for Hammond (& Sons) Hauliers is murdered, and Mr Hammond Sr appears briefly talking to the police.
