Based on the novel by Anthony Burgess, Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange" is set in the not-too-distant future when roving British teenage gangs have mutated into bizarre, ultra-violent, morals-free hedonists who commit crimes to their hearts' content. The protagonist is Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) a 15-year-old punk who drinks drug-laced milk before taking to the street with his gang of droogs to savagely and gleefully beat and assault anyone who passes into their field of vision. Alex is eventually arrested and put into prison where the government subjects him to bizarre new rehabilitation techniques in an attempt to turn his mind away from violence.
Throughout, Alex is depicted as clearly beyond redemption. He has no compassion and will never have compassion. When he reads about Jesus Christ being crucified, he imagines himself to be the Roman soldier whipping him. The government's brainwashing techniques only instill in him a...

San Diego Comic-Con is the domain of weirdos. What began in a hotel basement in 1970 as the one-day Golden State Comic-Minicon grew to become Sdcc in 1973 and then Comic-Con International: San Diego (Cci) in 1995. It is the Super Bowl of pop culture fandom. It is a place where 130,000 ticketed attendees—not counting thousands more who will make a pilgrimage to the city during the con—will arrive once more after a three-year hiatus to let their geek flags fly. And over the course of five days, San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter is the worldwide capital of weirdos.
But what is a weirdo? The word has its etymology in “wyrd,” which means “fate” or “destiny.” And a weirdo is one who is in control of their own destiny. Hat tip to weird researcher John E.L. Tenney for reminding me of that. Yet “weird” also means “strange” or “bizarre.” There’s a...

The world of UFOs has been ignited by a recent report that the U.S. government is taking the phenomenon seriously. Now, J.J. Abrams is getting in on the act and is exec producing a four-part documentary series on our fascination with unidentified flying objects for Showtime.
The ViacomCBS premium cable network will premiere UFO on August 8. It will drop all four episodes at midnight ahead of its linear TX at 9pm.
The series will look at what clandestine influence the American government, lucrative private companies and the military may have in shielding the truth behind extraterrestrial phenomena to further their own agendas.
It comes after reporting from the New York Times in 2017 and the New Yorker more recently, which highlighted how the Pentagon began taking the existence of UFOs seriously after footage emerged that navy pilots had been seeing unidentified objects in the sky.

J.J. Abrams is ready to get to the bottom of unidentified flying objects, and Showtime is giving him the platform to do just that. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Glen Zipper are behind “UFO,” a four-part docu-series that will look at the phenomenon of mysterious objects in the sky and “what clandestine influence the American government, lucrative private companies and the military may have in shielding the truth behind extraterrestrial phenomena to further their own agendas.”
Mark Monroe (“Icarus”) and Paul Crowder (“Riding Giants”) will direct the series, which comes as new attention is placed on what the government knows about UFOs, and what it may or may not be telling us. The series comes in the wake of a 2017 New York Times article that revealed that the Pentagon had been secretly tracking UFOs for years.

Having recently passed the 60 million subscribers mark, Disney Plus is officially the third-most popular streaming service on the planet behind only Netflix and Amazon Prime, which only becomes a more impressive feat when you consider that the company’s in-house platform is constantly facing criticism for a lack of exciting original content.
They might occasionally dominate the headlines with the likes of The Mandalorian, Hamilton or Beyonce’s Black Is King, but apart from those three major hits, there isn’t exactly a wealth of originality to be found on Disney Plus. Although, that stands to change in the not-too-distant future as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars brands debut a slew of new shows exclusive to the service.

The UnXplained will premiere on History on July 11, confounding viewers with impossible tales improbably told. But the most inexplicable thing about the paranormal-and-beyond series is its host. William Shatner is not just an actor or a star, he is almost public domain. His breakthrough character, Captain James T. Kirk, was recognized and claimed by popular culture, the counterculture, and the subculture of Star Trek aficionados.
Shatner started his career as a workaholic actor who never said no. He took big and small parts on great TV shows and movies, and awful ones. He’d go on to continue his work in popular TV series with appearances in indie and B-movie films which have become cult classics. Who can forget his creepy crawl up the basement stairs in Kingdom of the Spiders or his pentagram brand and dis-gouged eyes in Devil’s Rain? In their own way, they are as influential...

The O.G. of TV true crime has returned. Before there was Making a Murderer, Tiger King, The Jinx, and Serial, the nation’s fix for real-life murder tales came in weekly doses courtesy of Unsolved Mysteries, which ran interrupted from 1987 to 2002. Since the series left airwaves, the genre has grown into a powerhouse: Some networks dedicate their entire programming slate to it (hi, Oxygen), and streaming services rely on true-crime for viral hits.
Yet, 33 years after its debut, old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries remain a profoundly bingeable experience, thanks...

The opening scene of The Vast of Night, a new science fiction film now streaming on Amazon Prime, wears its influences on its sleeve. While it doesn’t mention The Twilight Zone by name, the film begins with a static-bedeviled television being watched in the middle of the day, like the memory of a late ‘50s childhood half-forgotten. The story you’re about to see, explains a disembodied voice, is a trip into “Paradox Theatre.” This show-within-a-movie might be fictional, but the moment it represents in science fiction and American culture is not.
Set in the twilight of the Eisenhower years, The Vast of Night is the debut film from director Andrew Patterson, which is all the more impressive since it so inhabits its time and place in American life with authentic nostalgia. At the tail end of what Don McLean romanticized in “American Pie,...

Alienware wants to build a Nintendo Switch for PC gaming, but is that really possible?
Alienware has revealed a prototype for a handheld PC gaming device that resembles a Nintendo Switch.
No, seriously...this thing is basically a Nintendo Switch. Dubbed the Concept UFO, this handheld machine features a centralized screen flanked by controllers that can be removed and used independently or as part of a gamepad. It even has a kickstand and can be hooked up to external displays for when you don't want to utilize its handheld capabilities.
Unlike the Nintendo Switch, though, the UFO is designed to play Windows PC games. That probably sounds a bit fantastical, and, to be fair, it kind of is. Alienware is going out of their way to remind people that this whole concept is indeed just that. This is not something they plan on putting into production anytime soon,...

"This is the music you don't want your parents to hear." Rolling Stone has debuted the first trailer for an indie rock doc titled Murder in the Front Row. Or rather, in full: Murder In The Front Row: The San Francisco Bay Area Thrash Metal Story. The doc is, as the title indicates, about the rise of the thrash metal scene and the bands that played to wild crowds. "These are just good stories, and they are very human stories," says director Adam Dubin. Mitfr follows the story of a group of young kids in Northern California with a shared passion for heavy rock bands like UFO, Iron Maiden and Motorhead. "All these bands were mainly from England, and they never really toured the West Coast... So these young people started creating their own music, starting their own fanzines, booking clubs and trading tapes. These were people who were adamant about music and the bands,...
