New Republic Pictures has optioned a biography about Marlon Brando, with the intent of making a biopic
New Republic Pictures has optioned a biography about the late legendary actor Marlon Brando to become a biopic, it's been revealed.
The biography to be adapted is The Way It's Never Been Done Before from George Englund, a movie director, producer, and one of Brando's best friends. Englund died earlier this year.
Brian Oliver's New Republic Pictures (Hacksaw Ridge, American Made) has optioned the biography with the intent of making a feature film biopic about Brando, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
There's certainly a joke to be made about Hollywood's penchant for making moves about itself but that doesn't really apply in Brando's case. Brando is synonymous with the film industry but his was the kind of talent and fame that would have been noteworthy in any industry.

Considering Marlon Brando was the greatest actor that ever lived, it’s a wonder why it’s taken so long for a biopic to arise based on the memoirs of those that knew him best. Finally, we could see just that as one of Brando’s best friends, George Englund’s memoir The Way It’s Never Been Done Before has been optioned for a movie outing on the legend.
Rush, Black Swan and Hacksaw Ridge producer, Brian Oliver will produce the film for the newly established New Republic Pictures. Oliver said of the new commission;
“George and Marlon’s friendship spanned five decades and covered all the ups and downs in the actor’s career and personal life,” stated Oliver. “It makes for both an epic portrayal of the greatest actor ever to grace the silver screen and an intimate story of two men with an almost brotherly bond.

There appear to be no rules governing tricky politics in movies — Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s adaptation of Graham Greene’s novel about terrorism in French-held Vietnam completely reverses the author’s message. Does a conspiracy theory about a movie still carry any weight, when our daily political life now plays like one giant conspiracy?

Sacramento, CA-based industrial-punk-metal supergroup Kill the Precedent assembled around seven years ago, and since then they've been generating a lot of positive buzz. Hailed by fans as the second coming of Ministry (Al Jourgensen is definitely one of their creative inspirations), Ktp have been leaving their bloody mark with outrageous stage performances and a sonic assault from a massive lineup packing three guitars, bass and drums, dueling vocalists Sean “The Ugly American” Smith and Jason "Twig the Exfoliator" VonWussow, and a barrage of programmed rhythms and samples. Their live shows are quickly becoming legendary, with constantly revolving themes that include zombie beach parties, blood-splattered slaughterhouses, Zodiac Killer masks, police and airline uniforms... even a Gilligan's Island theme! In other words, you never know what you're gonna get. The band's first full-length album Dialogues with the Dead dropped this week, and it's just as wildly unpredictable as their image. While the...

Chicago – Stephen Chbosky’s “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” based on his own book, is one of the pleasant surprises of 2012, a smart, clever, moving teen drama that brings to mind the work of John Hughes and Cameron Crowe. We’ll get into that more at the end of the week when our rave review posts but Mr. Chbosky was kind enough to sit down with us recently and talk about his debut film, one that is sure to be adored by the many fans who fell in love with his book.
Hollywoodchicago.Com: How personal is this? How much of it is Your story?
Stephen Chbosky: It’s really personal. It is semi-autobiographical. There is invention. Not everything that happens to Charlie happened to me but his response to the world is very much my response. It’s personal to me.
Hollywoodchicago.Com: How different is the film from the book?...

Robin Hood - Free Passes
Who lives in Arizona and wants to see Russell Crowe dispatch dirty peasants with a bow and arrow?
I sure do. After loving every last morsel of the last Russell Crowe/Ridley Scott team-up this film at least gets an emotional buy-in simply because lighting may very well strike twice.
For those that would like to see this film Tuesday, May 11th, at 7:00 at Harkins Fashion Square please shoot me a line at Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com and let me know you’re interested in winning some tickets. I don’t have many so get those entries in quick.

Continuing Simon Augustine's countdown of the Most Disturbing Movies (Read Part 1 for the first 13). [<< #9]
8. Cannibal Holocaust (1980) 7/10
Ruggero Deodato's exercise in The Ugly American's confrontation with jungle cannibalism is an admired and feared placeholder on any respectable Disturbist's desert island list. Made a full twenty years before Blair Witch Project, Deodato's film cleverly played with the line between movie reality and reality-reality by using a story of found footage: film stock is found in the jungle that chronicles the self-made video diary of an intrepid naturalist/would-be documentarian and his cohorts as they cut a swath through the Amazonian jungle to capture the lives of a “primitive” and, unfortunately for them, cannibalistic tribe.

Please welcome guest contributor Linda Ball, who caught a special Austin Film Festival screening of the 1963 film The Ugly American, which included a discussion with the film's screenwriter, Stewart Stern.
I was curious to see the The Ugly American because when it was released (1963) and when the book was published (1959) I was quite young. However, I remember the phrase "the ugly American" being synonymous with new ideas about the face of colonialism and of the Cold War anti-Communist era. I may have even read the book in college. Certainly, this material was the part of the underpinning of the protests and new ways of looking at our place in the world that came along when I was in college and made me start to question the certainty of the 1950s culture of my childhood, basking in victory from what was considered a right and just war.

Marlon Brando's actress sister Jocelyn Brando has died at her home in Santa Monica, California. She was 86. The stage and screen star, who made her debut in Fritz Lang's The Big Heat in 1953, was by her brother's bedside when he died of lung failure last summer. Among the highlights of her film career were two projects she appeared in alongside her famous sibling - The Ugly American and The Chase. She also played Mrs. Reeves in soap opera Dallas. She last appeared alongside Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest in 1981.
