Plot: In this six-episode dark comedic series, Tom Segura navigates unthinkable situations and fantasies within a cinematic world.
Review: Tom Segura likes messed-up humor. The comedian and podcaster has made a career by telling relatable yet slightly intrusive jokes. Along with his contemporaries Bill Burr and Bert Kreischer, Tom Segura’s brand of comedy is shockingly honest and shockingly blunt yet delivered in a way that makes you think as hard as you are laughing. Segura also loves the scope and scale of cinema and has channeled that into his new series, Bad Thoughts. A collection of loosely connected short films unified by episodic themes, Bad Thoughts is for fans of ambitious comedic series like Key & Peele, Louie, Better Things, and Dave, but through a twisted lens reminiscent of The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. Hilarious and deeply disturbing at the same time, Bad Thoughts will have you laughing...

Before Burt Reynolds went on to have a legendary and illustrious career on the silver screen, he first made his reputation doing television. He appeared in a myriad of shows between 1959 and 1972. He had one-episode roles in such classic shows as "The Twilight Zone," Erle Stanley Gardner's "Perry Mason," and Lee Marvin's "M Squad." Yet one of his most memorable recurring roles was arguably in Charles Marquis Warren's western drama, "Gunsmoke" (based on John Meston and Norman Macdonnell's radio series of the same name), which ran on CBS for an outstanding 20 (!) years between 1955 and 1975. Compared to today's TV Westerns, which are lucky if they last more than two seasons, that's an astonishing accomplishment for the unapologetically honest series.
Out of those 20 seasons, Reynolds starred in three, from 1962 to 1965, as Quint Asper, a half-white and half-Comanche blacksmith, introduced as the member of Angela Clarke's Topsanah's tribe...

The horror genre has produced lots of great TV shows throughout the years, with many dating back to the earliest days of television. Even now, fans of fright fare can still enjoy the many excellent episodes of "The Twilight Zone" and check out the lesser-known horror anthology series Rod Serling made afterward -- to name but a couple examples of the classics that are readily available for your viewing anxiety. Unfortunately, some old shows are lost in the fogs of time -- similar to the spirits that haunt people in their stories -- and will never see the light of day again. This brings us to "Late Night Horror," an obscure British anthology series from the 1960s that was allegedly purged for being too controversial.
As documented by Atlas Obscura, "Late Night Horror" hit the airwaves in 1968, producing six episodes in total. Similar to "The Twilight Zone," the series is...

The bleak, dystopian world of "Black Mirror" induces a sense of fascination for a reason. Speculative fiction has always had a grasp over our imaginations, as these stories allow us to confront probable, uncomfortable futures from a safe distance. While some of these tales might feel a bit too outlandish for objective reality, the appeal lies in the luxury to flesh out these realities and measure them across the human spectrum. As "Black Mirror" roots such tropes into worlds that are very close to our own, the anxiety feels palpable. While these bite-sized stories might have lost their edge over time, they still compel and terrify, prompting us to engage with complex conundrums.
Charlie Brooker's "Black Mirror" recently released its seventh season, so it is no surprise that such a long-standing franchise has harbored plans to craft spin-off books based on its premise. In 2017, a three-book series was announced with Brooker acting as editor,...

In the "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." episode "The Project Strigas Affair", it's explained that Laslo Kurasov (Werner Klemperer from "Hogan's Heroes"), a Khrushchev-like diplomat from an unnamed Balkan state, is aiming to disrupt arms talks between the United States and nations behind the Iron Curtain. Agents Napoleon Solo (Robert Wagner) and Illya (David McCallum) are tasked with removing Laslo from his position without assassinating him (which would make him into a martyr). They instead concoct a very, very elaborate plan to embarrass Laslo and discredit him in the public eye.
The plan begins with an agent from U.N.C.L.E. playacting his own death-by-stabbing in front of Laslo, yelling the cryptic (and made-up) phrase "Strigas YL893." This startles Laslo and causes him to assign his aide, a man named Vladeck (Leonard Nimoy), to investigate what that codeword might mean. U.N.C.L.E. secretly feeds Vladeck some fake information,...

Event Horizon was considered a critical and commercial failure upon its release in 1997, but the cosmic horror film has since developed a cult following large enough to warrant a comic book prequel series.
Variety reports that Event Horizon: Dark Descent will launch its first of five issues releasing on August 20 via Idw Publishing.

Almost 30 years after it spooked cinemagoers in 1997, Paramount’s cult horror “Event Horizon” is getting its first expansion.
Rather than hitting screens, however, “Event Horizon: Dark Descent” is an official comic book prequel series from Idw Publishing, with the first issue hitting shelves in August.
The five-part series will, according to the publishers, “embrace the hard-r rating” of the movie and “terrifying cinematic universe” created by director Paul W.S. Anderson and writer Philip Eisner. Taking place before the events of the film, the comics will tell the story of the final fate of the original Event Horizon crew and ask, what really happened to Captain Kilpack and the first crew as their ship journeyed across a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining?

The Twilight Zone is a classic for many reasons, one of which is that Rod Serling was a genius at hiding social messaging in sci-fi and fantasy stories.
When the anthology series began, Serling had discovered that themes such as the danger of scapegoating and the importance of standing up to authority weren’t welcome if he wrote about them directly, but if he told allegories about people in other worlds or other times, he got a different reception.
Could the The Twilight Zone work today? I’d like to think so, but the world is so politically divided that it’s hard to say with any certainty.

Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg are two legends who made their mark in the industry as prolific filmmakers who have crafted some of the most influential films of the past few decades. While Eastwood never collaborated with Spielberg as an actor, he has directed several projects under Spielberg’s production ventures.
One of the most underrated collaborations of the duo is Spielberg’s TV series Amazing Stories. The anthology show, which followed along the lines of The Twilight Zone, saw Eastwood direct one romantic horror episode starring Harvey Keitel and Sondra Locke, written by Spielberg. The series was revived in 2020 by Apple TV+.

Clint Eastwood got his breakthrough on TV with the Western show Rawhide, after which he went on to star in Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy.

If you’re looking for an epic battle between different factions for Manhattan, then The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Episode 1 was the episode you’ve been waiting for.
For some reason, Maggie and Negan’s paths are continually intertwined, and there’s a good chance they’ll be fighting on the same side again by the end of the season.
We’ll start with Maggie and The Bricks because a lot has happened since The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 Episode 6 wrapped on a hopeful note for the community.
(Robert Clark/AMC)
The revelation that Perlie forced The Bricks was surprising because it harkens back to The Commonwealth on The Walking Dead Season 11.
Maggie is the last person to want to be part of something like New Babylon after the physical and mental torment her people went through at the hands of The Commonwealth.

Leo Sharf was always going to be a problem, and Tracker has been setting us up for it since the minute we met him.
But how he’d get himself, or Reenie, into some trouble was to be determined until Tracker Season 2 Episode 19, when his assistant went missing, and Colter got caught up in corporate retaliation.
Or so he thought.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
Nothing is ever as it seems on Tracker, and we’ve heard the name Sheldon Grimes so many times that our brains were programmed to believe he was the one behind Francie’s kidnapping.
It made the most sense on the surface since Leo had unceremoniously ousted Sheldon from the new company, and he did so in a way that wasn’t exactly nice or professional.

If Dee Wallace didn’t stand up to Steven Spielberg, E.T. could’ve wanted to do more than just go home.
In a recent appearance on the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, Wallace, who played Elliot’s mother Mary in the immortal 1982 classic, said there was an axed side plot in the film for a romance between her character and the titular alien.
“There’s a whole B story in ‘E.T.’ about E.T. having a love affair with Mary, a love crush on Mary,” she said. “And there’s little bits of it left in there.”
She continued, “There was a scene where he came in to put Reese’s Pieces down on my bedside table as I’m asleep. Well, Spielberg wanted the sheet a little lower than I was comfortable with.”
Wallce explained that she took her grievances up with Spielberg directly, arguing to maintain the family-friendly tone of the film.

On the hit Apple TV+ series "Severance," TV megastar Adam Scott plays Mark, a man grieving the loss of his wife. As a means to cope, he accepts a job at the mysterious Lumon Corporation, a strange corporate edifice on the edge of town. Lumon has developed a technique that allows it to "sever" some of its employees; that is, employees have a computer chip implanted in their brains that separates their memories of the outside world from when they're off the clock and their memories of the workday. It's the ultimate in work-life balance. Outside Mark, his "Outie," is depressed and struggling, but Inside Mark, his "Innie," is chipper and positive.
At the beginning of "Severance," Innie Mark is introduced to Helly (Britt Lower), a new co-worker. Helly is unhappy with the idea of severance and initially tries to escape the Lumon offices. Helly's Outie, however, keeps walking back in.

With "The Twilight Zone" Rod Serling helped pioneer the sci-fi genre for years to come. The legendary anthology series has never really faded from pop culture relevance since it first aired back in 1959, largely thanks to the syndication deal Serling struck with CBS. The show creator sold the series rights to the network after the end of its fifth and final season in 1964. Sadly, Serling subsequently found himself recoiling every time he saw "Twilight Zone" reruns due to the amount of commercial breaks shoehorned into the episodes at the expense of certain scenes, which were cut in favor of selling more stuff to consumers. But it was this very syndication deal that simultaneously helped turn "The Twilight Zone" into the cultural powerhouse it became.
It also didn't hurt that multiple revivals sprang up in the decades after the original series went off the air.

Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" franchise is a golden goose that keeps on giving. In fact, the main series is so huge that it inadvertently caused real-life devastation due to outsiders flocking to the actual Yellowstone in their hordes, ultimately destroying its environment and property market. That success also led to hit spin-offs in the form of "1882" and "1923," which chronicle the struggles faced by the Dutton family throughout history. With more "Yellowstone" spin-offs on the way from Sheridan, the franchise shows no signs of riding off into the sunset -- and to think that it was almost canceled two seasons in.
As documented by Bloomberg, "Yellowstone" wasn't an instant cultural behemoth. Before finding a home with the Paramount Network, the neo-Western series was rejected by HBO, which must have frustrated Sheridan. Then, after being greenlit by Paramount, Sheridan clashed with executives of the studio's parent company Viacom, who wanted him...

Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) has a special gift. During the five seasons "Prison Break" was on the air, he showed that there wasn't a single penitentiary on the planet he couldn't break in or out of. Granted, he didn't visit every prison in the world, but the show establishes that he knows how to get out of any sticky situation, so why should we believe that there are any cells that could keep him locked up? For viewers, Michael's escapades provided some edge-of-the-seat entertainment, even when the series started getting ridiculous and running out of steam.
Then again, prison wasn't the only problem Michael had to contend with on "Prison Break." At one point, he suffers from a brain tumor that puts his life in danger, requiring him to get an experimental treatment. However, his problems further intensify when he enters into business with some bad people and gets caught up in an explosion.

What do entertainers as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Gypsy Rose Lee, and Rod Serling have in common? Each one adored The Andy Griffith Show. Serling, the brain behind The Twilight Zone, another enduring television classic, even described Andy Griffith as “one of the few genuinely funny comedies in the medium” in a 1963 TV Guide Magazine article that reported he often visited the nearby set. “What hits me is that the people are characters,” he added, “not caricatures.” That’s certainly been key to The Andy Griffith Show‘s longevity. The actor’s canny sheriff, Andy Taylor, and the other mildly eccentric and eminently lovable residents of the small Southern town of Mayberry have entertained generations for 65 years — even ones who weren’t yet born when the sitcom premiered on CBS on October 3, 1960. Viewers still laugh, cry, and empathize, which is why, each May, MeTV rolls out its annual “Month of...

Jordan Peele’s love for the strange and the supernatural has always been loud and clear, and with The Twilight Zone reboot, he got to play host to a modern version of the legendary 1959 series he grew up admiring. Much like Rod Serling did back in the day, Peele used the format to peel back the layers of society’s darkest corners, mixing horror with moral dilemmas and mind games. Though the revival didn’t stick around as long as fans might have hoped, it packed a punch in its short run and offered a platform for some solid talent.
The anthology came and went, but the faces from the series have moved on to pretty interesting chapters in 2025. From high-stakes dramas to animated franchises, here’s what the key cast members are busy with now.

Harrison Ford is 82 and has been enjoying somewhat of a renaissance of late. 2023 became the year of Ford giving a crap again after the early 2000s and 2010s seemed to be something of a slog for the veteran star. Not only did he appear to be going through the motions in a lot of his movies, he also became one of Hollywood's most notorious grumps, rivaling Ridley Scott for the most amusingly irascible man in the industry.
But that has changed in recent years. "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" might have been a massive flop, but none of that was down to Ford, who in stark contrast to his performance in 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," seemed to truly care about delivering a heartfelt Indy portrayal. Ford also started pushing his boundaries with roles in "Yellowstone" spin-off "1923" and Apple TV+'s "Shrinking," both...

Prior to landing the gig playing helmsman Hikaru Sulu on "Star Trek," actor George Takei landed a few dubbing jobs that led to him providing the English-language voices for Japanese films like "Rodan" and "Godzilla Raids Again." His first credited on-scree film role was for the 1958 adventure flick "Ice Palace" with Richard Burton. Throughout the early 1960s, he continued to play small roles in large Hollywood film productions, although his career began to thrive on television, with Takei landing guest spots on some of the hottest shows of the day. Indeed, he wound up being on episodes of "Perry Mason," "The Twilight Zone," "My Three Sons," "Death Valley Days," and "I Spy."
"Star Trek" was a three-year supporting gig for Takei, and it initially wasn't a hugely successful show, ending in 1969. After that, Takei merely turned back to other one-shot appearances on shows like "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" and "Ironside.

When reality begins to catch up to dystopian fiction, such speculative stories lose their edge over time. The same can be said about the latest entries in Charlie Brooker's "Black Mirror," a show once hailed as bleakly provocative in the best sense of the term. It's possible our current reality is so hopelessly strange that the show's cautionary, pessimistic stories can't help but feel hollow in comparison.
All the same, "Black Mirror" has consistently told timely, thought-provoking tales about technological excess, absurdist metropolises, and the steady erasure of everything that makes us human. The series brings a distinct vibe to mainstream television, one where we hunger for stories that push the limits of the genre while compelling us to slow down and think. There's a conscious desire for episodes that take wild swings, especially ones that combine the chilling coldness of technology with the warmth of human connection (which...

Netflix’s Black Mirror has been toying with reality, but the franchise’s latest offering- season 7 might be taking things too far. Created by Charlie Brooker, the series is a sci-fi anthology, exploring various themes. Most episodes are set in a near-future dystopia containing ultra futuristic technology.
The series is inspired by 1959’s American television anthology series, created by Rod Serling- The Twilight Zone– and uses the themes of technology and media to comment on contemporary social issues. Now, with Netflix dropping its first episode of S7, fans have wasted no time diving into the dark twists of Common People. Alternate endings and fan theories are already flooding the internet, some so clever and well crafted that they could leave the creator, Brooker, scratching his head.

Korean scripted shows, or K-dramas, have looked to American and British sources of inspiration before, even providing their own spin on Agatha Christie's British literary detective Miss Marple. For the 2020 psychological thriller "The World of the Married," however, the show's creative team took inspiration from far darker and more recent source material. Indeed, the acclaimed 2015 British series "Doctor Foster," which features a strong early performance from Jodie Comer, served as the narrative basis for the K-drama. Though both shows share an underlying conflict and escalating brutal stakes, the Korean iteration deviates from the British show quickly and noticeably.
Both stories focus on a successful doctor: Gemma Foster (Suranne Jones) in the original and Ji Sun-woo (Kim Hee-ae) in the Korean version. Seemingly happily married, the protagonists learn that their husbands are cheating on them with younger women, leading to an unraveling of more devastating secrets. The wronged wives pursue...

One of the most anticipated horror movies of the year (if not one of the most anticipated movies of any kind) has arrived in the form of "Sinners." Directed by Ryan Coogler, of "Black Panther" fame, reuniting with "Creed" star Michael B. Jordan, this big-budget vampire flick is, to put it mildly, a big deal. In no small part because it has earned rave reviews thus far.
Coogler's latest takes place in the 1930s and centers on a pair of twin brothers (played by Jordan) who are trying to leave their troubled lives behind by returning to their hometown to start a juke joint. Unfortunately, things go awry when vampires turn up to throw a wrench in the gears. Horror ensues. "Sinners" is inspired by the classic anthology series "The Twilight Zone," at least in part. That being the case,...

The most watched series on Netflix today is a horror-infused science fiction program in the vein of The Twilight Zone. The show in question just released its seventh season on the platform last week, which likely has something to do with its current chart position. If you haven’t pieced it together, I’m talking about the celebrated anthology series Black Mirror.
Each episode of Black Mirror is self-contained. Many of the episodes take inspiration from current events, as well as paralleling themes from celebrated anthology efforts of yesteryear. Many of the series episodes tap into the darker side of technology.
Charlie Brooker created the show for Channel 4 in his native UK. From the third season on, however, the program has been a Netflix original production. The show has been around since 2011. Yet, Brooker and company don’t crank out new seasons with any real urgency. It seems the...

In a 2013 interview with Games Radar discussing the second season of "Black Mirror," creator Charlie Brooker revealed how his show had nearly borrowed the framing device from the hit 1960s anthology show "The Twilight Zone." Just as showrunner Rod Serling would talk directly to the camera at the start and finish of every episode, Brooker nearly did the same for every episode of "Black Mirror" season 1.
The main argument for this was that it would've helped ease a lot of the network's concerns. Brooker explained that studios are often reluctant to do anthology shows in part because there are no recurring characters for audiences to latch onto, like there would be for any other type of TV series. The closest thing "Black Mirror" could do — at least until it started playing around with sequels in season 7 — was to throw in a recurring narrator-type character.
