Update: Daniel Richtman has learned that there’s not only a Mummy prequel in the works at Universal, but there are two other Mummy projects in the works as well. He writes, “There are no less than Three Mummy projects in development at Universal, one is a direct sequel to the Fraser films.” So fans might get to see Brendan Fraser make his long-awaited return to the role of Rick O’Connell after all!

Lana Del Rey covered a song from Madonna‘s most famous movie. Del Rey is so much better suited to the tune than the Material Girl ever was. Interestingly, Del Rey explained why she decided to cover the track in the first place and it had nothing to do with her feelings about Madonna. Instead, Del Rey intended her cover as a tribute to another prominent musician.
A song written for Madonna’s movie ‘Evita’ inspired a great cover
Madonna’s movie Evita is based on the musical of the same name by Broadway legends Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Most of the songs in Evita were from the original stage show, with the exception of “You Must Love Me,” which Lloyd Webber and Rice crafted for the film.

Alan Cumming isn’t much of a reality TV fan — so as host of Peacock’s “The Traitors,” he enjoys being a bit blind to the baggage that many of the contestants carry to the Scottish Highlands.
“When I go to do ‘The Traitors, I have a crash course in reality TV stars, and random people,” he tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I don’t know who many of the people are. Because I juust don’t watch those shows. And actually I quite like it, just to meet the people on those their own terms — rather than that with all the history they bring.”
Cumming much prefers watching them plot and scheme inside the game of “The Traitors,” vs whatever it is they do on the “Real Housewives” and its ilk. “I think that the culture of these shows is very much about creating drama,” he says. “The structures are the same,...

The Wolf Man remains one of the horror genre's most iconic movie monsters and in 2017, there were plans for him to take centre stage in Universal's ill-fated "Dark Universe."
The idea of an McU-inspired shared world featuring these creatures crumbled when The Mummy bombed, leaving the studio with no other choice than to part ways with Hollywood heavyweights like Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, and Javier Bardem.
There's been some chatter about Universal attempting to revive its Dark Universe, but filmmaker Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man won't be part of them.
"As an outsider, I would say that The Mummy's Dark Universe, in my humble opinion, felt like it was reactive to what was going on with all the superhero stuff - the MCU and DC universe," producer Ken Kao tells Screen Rant (via FearHQ.com). "And we know there's been a lot of talk about what...

For six seasons, The Crown told the story of the British royal family during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The show combined real-life events with acts of imagination, meaning that it was not always a hundred percent accurate. Season four of the series introduced everyone’s beloved Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin, who later handed over the role to Elizabeth Debicki in season five.
The Crown Season 4
Emma Corrin, though a great actor, had only a few acting credits to their name before being cast as Lady Diana. Needless to say, the job made them quite nervous. After all, they were bringing one of the United Kingdom’s most popular personalities to the screen. In fact, there was one scene where they got a panic attack while filming.

“I really wanted to discover what wasn’t there,” explains Jeremy Jordan when asked about his portrayal of the titular figure in “The Great Gatsby.” The actor is embodying the enigmatic Jay Gatsby in a Broadway musical adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. The actor is interested in exploring the “romanticism” and “mania” that exist in this confounding figure who enchants Long Island in the 1920s. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
The musical follows Nick Carraway (Noah Ricketts) who befriends the uber rich Gatsby after receiving an invitation to one of the socialite’s lavish Long Island parties. Gatsby isn’t just an extravagant host, however. He has his sights set on reclaiming his long lost love Daisy (Eva Noblezada), who happens to be Nick’s cousin. Gatsby machinations successfully lure Daisy back to him, but his secret misdeeds threaten to unravel the life he has so carefully created.

The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

Gerard Butler has had a varied career so far, with him playing everything from action leads to rom-com love interests to a singing Phantom of the Opera. But, it has to be said that his most consistently entertaining output falls squarely into the action genre, and as far as Gerard Butler movies go, the action films will always be our favorites… so don’t expect to see The Ugly Truth on this list, but The Bounty Hunter might scrape by. Or maybe not. Let’s see how it goes:
300 (2006)
Perhaps The film that put Gerard Butler on the map for most people, particularly the action and comic book crowds. Butler is in peek physical form here, showing off his bod as the ultimate Spartan warrior and proving that he is indeed quite the leading man. His performance here is commanding, a bit in your face (in the right way), and exactly what the film needed.

Exclusive: Judy Craymer would just love it if Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig could just make herself available to complete the Mamma Mia! movie trilogy.
“Hey, Greta, if you’re free to do anymore projects…” jokes Craymer, the driving force that has kept the “Money, Money, Money” pouring into the box office for musical Mamma Mia!, featuring the songs of Swedish pop stars Abba, for a quarter of a century.
Saturday night will mark an incredible milestone for a show that has taken over $5.685 billion at the box-office worldwide in ticket sales and is responsible for a further $17 billion in supplementary expenditure from spending on hotels, restaurants, transport and merchandising globally in the 25 years since opening night at the Cameron Macintosh-owned Prince Edward Theatre on April 6, 1999.
Those figures do not include the hundreds of millions of dollars that movie offshoots Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again have amassed.

The latest Interview with the Vampire season 2 trailers feature Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac, tyrannically dictating the story of his undeath to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). “I wanted to experiment: can I develop a family which was not unlike my own upbringing?” says Nicolas Cage, while talking to Den of Geek about his new movie Arcadian, which premiered at SXSW 2024. “My dad did most of the heavy lifting, he did the raising because my mom sadly couldn’t be around. So it was just my father, and in this case, myself and my older brother. I saw that family dynamic in the [Elia] Kazan picture, East of Eden.”
From that description, you might imagine Arcadian to be an austere drama, something that takes place in a rustic farm house and focuses on the complex relationship between a father struggling to do right by his two boys. And you’d mostly be right… mostly.
But then Cage completes his thought. “And then I thought, well, wouldn’t it be interesting if this little family nucleus was contending with...

John Savident, who played the booming voiced Fred Elliott in British soap Coronation Street, died Wednesday. He was 86.
His agent confirmed his passing in a statement to press, saying: “We are sad to announce the death of the actor John Savident who died on Wednesday 21 February. He was a much-loved husband and father of two and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
Savident joined ITV soap in 1994 as a butcher with a disastrous love life. His comic timing and turn of phrase made him one of the long-running program’s most familiar faces before his character was killed off in 2006 after almost 1,000 episodes. His quirk of adding the words, “I say” in between others has been widely parodied in the UK.
The Coronation Street X account shared an image of the actor, and wrote: “Everyone at Coronation Street is deeply saddened to learn of John Savident’s death.

Director Scott Cummings has an editing background, having cut together indie treats including Beach Rats, Monsters And Men and Never Rarely Sometimes Always, so it’s fair to say he knows a fair bit about the importance of the connection and juxtaposition between images and, by extension, between moods. He brings this playfully to the fore in this hybrid documentary - made “in collaboration with” the Church of Satan, which offers snapshots from the daily lives of your average (and perhaps less than average) Satanist, that span from the domestic to the dramatic. Participants range all the way up to the current high priest and high priestess of the church.
The Devil, you might say, is in the details, as in various households, Church of Satan paraphernalia including skulls and the like, nestles alongside a Playbill for Phantom of the Opera or an Elvis statuette. Elsewhere a goat plate appears to be.

Dwight Little’s legacy falls into one of three categories: horror, action, and TV. From the horror couplet that is Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and the Robert Englund-starring Phantom of the Opera to the action trilogy of Rapid Fire, Marked for Death, and Murder at 1600, as well as his TV work (The X-Files among his most-known projects), Little has managed to reinvent himself numerous times over his 30+ years career.
It’s not an easy task to stay relevant in an ever-evolving landscape, especially in the age of streaming, but Little’s instincts have always guided his creative hand. With his new memoir, Still Rolling: Inside the Hollywood Dream Factory, the filmmaker walks the reader through various stages of his career, shares insider tips and tricks, and regales with celebrity encounters.

Someone better start shipping a freight of Biotin over to Gerard Butler's house because the "300," "Phantom of the Opera," and "Plane" star has got a mighty big beard to grow! Butler is a well-decorated performer who has dabbled in just about every film genre possible, but arguably his best role is as Stoick the Vast in "How To Train Your Dragon." As /Film's Leo Noboru Lima explained when ranking the animated adventure flick as the best in Butler's filmography, "How to Train Your Dragon" is one of the few mainstream movies to take Butler seriously as both an imposing leading man and a heartfelt performer, noting, "The film captures those two dimensions of Butler and layers them on top of one another, allowing Butler's prowess as a heartrending dramatic performer to erupt through the cracks of his — ahem — stoic persona." Lima also rightfully highlighted his delivery of "I...

The Lost Boys is getting the musical treatment. The 1987 vampire-themed horror-comedy is being adapted for the stage by Parade’s Michael Arden, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s David Hornsby, and more.

Additionally, Ethan Popp (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical) will serve as Musical Supervisor, with the pop band The Rescues contributing original music.
The Lost Boys musical will be produced by three veteran actors: Patrick Wilson, James Carpinello, and Marcus Chait (Broadway productions of The Pirate Queen and Urban Cowboy). According to Deadline, the show will be “produced by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures.”

Ghost are celebrating another triumphant year with a new career-spanning streaming compilation titled 13 Commandments. Among the tracks is the song “Zenith,” which previously only received a physical release.
A press release describes the set as, “A treasure trove for the most fervent devotees and new initiates alike, Ghost’s 13 Commandments compilation chronicles the band’s metamorphosis from Scandinavian curiosity to world-straddling creative colossus — all that and fans are rewarded with the wider release of Ghost’s cult tune ‘Zenith.”‘
The band’s eventful 2023 included the release of the covers EP Phantomime, as well as a new version of “Spillways” featuring Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and a cover of Shakespears Sister’s “Stay” featuring Patrick Wilson for the movie Insidious: The Red Door.
Ghost also embarked on a five-month, four-continent world tour, including a summer US run with Amon Amarth, and recently received a Grammy nomination for their...

If you want a risk-taking Broadway musical that weaponizes disco-glamour to tell a story of crumbling democracy, I hope you already invested in a ticket to the immersion of "Here Lies Love" in its dying breath. If you want a work of artistic and personal self-reflection, see the "Merrily We Roll Along" revival. But if you hunger for Broadway-based belly laughs, you have two musical options: "Gutenberg! The Musical!" or the "Monty Python's Spamalot" revival.
"Lovingly ripped off" from the 1975 "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" as well as other "Monty Python" media, "Spamalot" reigned for 1,575 performances from its 2005 Broadway premiere. Transported from the Kennedy Center run in May 2023, this Broadway revival at the St. James Theatre serves up the oldies with adequate variance to its secondhand Pythonesque humor.
From the moment the Arthurian tale opens with an irrelevant Finland number, anyone who has not seen anything "Monty Python" is in for hijinks.

With nine nods for her hit album Sos, Sza is the most nominated artist this year. (Sos topped the Billboard 200 chart for 10 weeks.)
Keep reading to find out more…
In general, women are totally crushing it: Sza, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus all dominated the biggest categories. Jon Batiste is actually the only man in the Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
With an Album of the Year nomination for Midnights, Taylor has a chance to make history by becoming the first artist to ever win the category four times. She’s previously won for Fearless, 1989, and Folklore.
Her collaborator and good friend Jack Antonoff, who won Producer of the Year the last two years, is nominated in the category once again.

The third annual Halloween episode of “Chucky” will air on both USA and Syfy this Wednesday, and Bloody Disgusting is celebrating early with a sneak peek clip this morning.
In Halloween III: Season of the Witch, airing on October 25, “Jake, Devon and Lexy infiltrate a Halloween ball to stop Chucky – But the demon doll has other plans.”
Chucky is dressed up as the Phantom of the Opera in the exclusive 2-minute clip, and he finally reveals his true intentions to young Henry Collins (Callum Vinson). The killer doll’s master plan? Now that Jake, Devon and Lexy are headed to the White House, he plans on adding them to his body count. Three more kills on the grounds of the White House, as last week’s episode revealed, may be enough to appease Damballa and free Chucky of his current predicament.

The story of The Phantom of the Opera has been around since the original novel was written in 1910, but the version we know best came to life in 1986, when Andrew Lloyd Webber transformed the story into a musical. In 2004, Hollywood finally caught up, making a film version of the musical, starring Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum in the lead roles of The Phantom and Christine, respectively. Prior to starring in the film, Butler had never sang on the screen before, but — as he said at the time of the film’s opening — there was something irresistible about the idea of performing Phantom’s songs. Four meddling teenagers and a dog. From that simplest of premises, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears created an idea that has carried television series, live-action big-budget films, numerous animated movies, and countless parodies. So successful was Scooby-Doo that Hannah-Barbera launched several spin-offs, including Jabberjaw (teens and a talking whale) and Speed-Buggy (teens and a talking dune buggy). But there was something special about the alchemy Ruby and Spears derived for Scooby-Doo that made it stand the test of time. With its monster plots, Scooby-Doo became the ultimate introduction to horror for even the most timid kid.

As far as spooky time Los Angeles traditions go, there are few better than Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, which sees the iconic Universal Studios theme park taken over by all manner of ghouls, ghosts and goblins.
Part of the fun of the experience is being there so late; the park typically closes at 6:00pm in September but extends hours for Halloween Horror Nights (see the schedule here). And the other part that makes it so fun is seeing how they have been able to cram Halloween-y experiences into every nook and cranny of the park.
This year Halloween Horror Nights has houses devoted to “Stranger Things 4,” “The Last of Us” and “The Exorcist: Believer,” plus original haunted houses, a “Purge”-themed show in the “Waterworld” arena and a new Terror Tram experience. All of that, plus three “scare zones” and Death Eaters wandering around The Wizarding World of Harry Potter area.

Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment is thrilled to be releasing Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story. The film will premiere exclusively on the Icon Film Channel from 2nd October 2023, with Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and Tvod/Est available from 6th November 2023. From the makers of Pennywise: The Story of It and the widely-anticipated movie RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop comes an all-new documentary, celebrating the legacy and career of one our generation’s most beloved horror icons, the legendary Robert Englund. Shooting to super-stardom with his revolutionary portrayal of Freddy Krueger in the ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ franchise – a moment without doubt as visceral to the horror genre as Chaney’s werewolf or Karloff’s ground-breaking realisation of Frankenstein’s monster – Englund has firmly earned his place in the pantheon of horror movie legends. The documentary features a host of horror icons including Robert Englund himself, as well as...

Folks don’t usually associate the horror genre with fighting games, but the popularity of fan-made creations like TerrorDrome and the success of horror-based licensed characters in titles like Mortal Kombat prove that there is a market for this kind of hybrid experience. In fact, at one point there was a popular series of games that capitalized on monster movie thrills when coming up with its roster of supernatural fighters in what can basically summed up as a goth rendition of Street Fighter.
Naturally, I’m referring to Capcom’s Darkstalkers (also known as Vampire in Japan), a collection of arcade fighting games that were all the rage back in the 90s but slowly faded into obscurity as the pubic became enamored with three-dimensional action. And as other fighting franchises continue to expand their aging legacy well into the 2020s, I thought that this might be the perfect time to...

Kirill Serebrennikov, the celebrated Russian playwright and director whose last three films competed at Cannes, is set to create and direct a sensual, gothic TV adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera,” Gaston Leroux’s 19th century novel.
Serebrennikov’s TV debut, the subversive six-part miniseries will be shot in English and is being produced by Aude Albano at Pathé, in association with Ilya Stewart at Hype Studios. The latter has collaborated with Serebrennikov on his critically acclaimed movies, including “Leto,” “Petrov’s Flu” and “Tchaikovsky’s Wife,” all of which have played at Cannes.
Described as a “riveting psychological thriller with horrific undertones” by the production team, the story of “The Phantom of the Opera” revolves around an up-and-coming artist, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a disfigured musical genius, a monster haunting the Paris Opera House. Known as the Phantom of the Opera, the maleficent figure is a controlling,...

‘The Purge’ Heads to Open Waters in Halloween Horror Nights Live Show at Universal Studios Hollywood
Blumhouse will bring two new live shows to Universal Studios Hollywood for Halloween Horror Nights 2023: “The Purge: Dangerous Waters” and “Blumhouse: Behind the Screams.”
Ten years after the franchise debuted, “The Purge” will head to open waters for the first time for a live Hhn in “Dangerous Waters,” which finds a politician and his entourage fleeing to an island in order to avoid the Purge — a government-sanctioned 12-hour window during which all crime, including murder, is legal.
Per the announcement, “Sanctuary is fleeting when the island is quickly overrun by Purgers and the hunt is on” in a show that “celebrates an evening of anarchy without thought of punishment or fear of retribution.” Naturally, “Dangerous Waters” will take place in the much-beloved WaterWorld venue and will feature “adrenaline-filled action sequences, stunts, spectacular lighting and laser effects, high fall fire burns and massive explosions.”

Streaming services shake up their catalogs every month, but few rounds of TV and film musical chairs tend to be as rewarding as the ones that take place each fall. That's because we're entering spooky season, a time in which horror fans attempt to tackle ambitious watchlists and scaredy-cats dip their toes into the horror waters in the spirit of all things autumnal.
In keeping with this tradition, a large chunk of the movies making their way to Max (formerly HBO Max) this September are, if not outright scary, at least vaguely within the boundaries of the horror genre. Sure, there are some comedy classics ("Friday"), historical epics ("Gangs of New York"), and brand new docuseries ("Megan Thee Stallion vs. Tory Lanez: Five Shots") worth tuning into, but for my money, nearly all the best Max picks next month fall under the Halloween watchlist-adjacent umbrella.

The good news is that the hour didn't feel as though it was hurtling through too much plot at lightning speed.
As a result, Harlan Coben's Shelter Season 1 Episode 4 was infinitely easier to follow but still filled with twists and that tense cliffhanger.
We also have some confirmation about Ashley's whereabouts, but for how long?
As suspected, Rachel is a friend, not a foe, and Bat Lady remains one of the series' most puzzling characters.
Shelter is one of those series that, more often than not, makes it challenging to keep up with all the little tidbits they throw at us as it spins about a dozen plots simultaneously on its axis.
Nevertheless, it's an intriguing ride, and whether you can keep up with everything or not, it's nothing short of entertaining, primarily due to the likability of many of the series' characters and how well the actors do at bringing them to life.

The Tom Savini episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Celebrity? video series (formerly known as Where in the Horror Are They Now) was Written and Narrated by Jessica Dwyer and Edited by Juan Jimenez. It was Produced by John Fallon and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Gore. The gore the merrier or so it seemed during the 70s and 80s. And throughout many a decade gorehounds love all the red splatter a screen can handle. And one of the best to give the gore all the more is Tom Savini. A master of splatter, an icon of special effects, and a director and actor too, Savini has been the inspiration for more filmmakers and effects artists than I can count and continues to do so. He’s also never stopped making monsters and mayhem either. Tom Savini is one of modern horrors legends and I think it’s...

“The man who attacked my husband had a tattoo on his face… of an octopus!” That line is delivered with funeral home-seriousness in new Prime Video series Shelter. It is far from alone. “By all means,” says one character with the earnest commitment of an Oscar-clip, “proceed with your twisted mind games and murdering of drama teachers!” Another poignantly confides in a friend about his mother’s depression with the sad words, “It started when she was a teen tennis pro.”
Do they know? They have to know.
I don’t know if they know. At some points watching Harlan Coben’s Shelter, you’ll think the creators are definitely in on the joke. The dialogue feels zippy and ironic, as if the characters are aware that they’re essentially in a Scooby Doo episode themed, with bewildering poor taste, around child abuse, underage sex trafficking, and the Holocaust. At other points,...
