Months before "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" became the Looney Tunes theme song, the score for "Sweet Sioux" quotes "Merry-Go-Round" when the attacking Indians are circling the covered wagon. This was the first Warner Bros. cartoon to use "Merry-Go-Round."
The Last of the Mohicans gag was reused in the late-1940 cartoon, "Shop, Look, and Listen," featuring Little Blabbermouse.
When the Native messenger calls out to his fellow tribesmen, it was a reference to the popular 1933-1939 crime radio drama, [Calling All Cars]. "ROSE-n-twist" is a parody of the featured police radio dispatcher Jesse Rosenquist (1899-1966), including the offhand catchphrase.
