Disney's Snow White Shows Gal Gadot's Evil Queen Summoning the Magic Mirror in Deleted Scene for Digital Release
Image
Despite the controversial run, Disney is still promoting Snow White. The movie didn't end up making the studio a profit, and will head to digital soon.

Snow White is Disney's latest live-action remake of its early animated fairy tales. Starring Rachel Zegler as the Disney Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the movie could've used some magic to escape all the backlash. However, after a disastrous box office run, Disney is continuing to promote the live-action film as it heads to digital platforms on May 13, and People just unveiled a deleted scene showing the Evil Queen summoning the magic mirror.

The short clip, available on the outlet's page, takes place at the beginning of the film, introducing Gadot's character before she becomes the Evil Queen. The deleted scene is titled "Anguish and Opportunity," and shows a young Snow White and the King, "heartbroken" after the death of Snow White's mother.

How To Watch Rachel Zegler's Snow White Movie At Home
Image
Disney is bringing its latest live-action remake home. After a not-so-great run in theaters, director Marc Webb's "Snow White" is making its way to digital marketplaces and, soon enough, streaming. So, those who perhaps didn't catch it in theaters will now be able to watch it from the comfort of their couch.

Starring Rachel Zegler as the famed Disney Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, "Snow White" serves as a re-imagining of the enduring animated classic "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." There are some pretty major differences between the films, however, as the live-action "Snow White" sees the titular princess join forces with seven dwarfs and a group of rebels to liberate her kingdom from her wicked stepmother. Now, all of the magic, music, and romance will be available with just the few clicks of a button.

Disney's Controversial Snow White Gets Digital Release Date After Disappointing Box Office Run
Image
Disney's Snow White was the studio's latest attempt to turn its beloved animated fairy tales into live-action versions. The House of Mouse previously had massive success with titles like 2015's Cinderella, 2017's Beauty and the Beast, and even 2023's The Little Mermaid, but the live-action adaptation of the first Disney Princess wasn't a hit.

Based on the 1937 animated hit Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first animated film produced in the U.S., and Disney's first title. Based on the 1812 German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, Snow White is one of the most recognizable Disney Princesses, but her popularity didn't translate into the new adaptation starring Rachel Zegler as the titular princess. According to Deadline, Snow White is officially heading to digital platforms on May 13 after a disastrous box office run.

Alongside its debut on digital platforms on May 13, Disney has also confirmed the date for its physical release.

Rachel Zegler's Snow White Sets VOD & Blu-Ray Release Dates After Box Office Cracks $200M Worldwide
Image
Snow White's digital and physical media release dates have now been revealed as the film's disappointing theatrical run continues. Serving as a live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), the new film features Rachel Zegler as the titular Disney Princess, with Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen. Snow White has been mired in controversy since before its theatrical release on March 21, and the film was ultimately met with lackluster reviews and has so far grossed just $200 million worldwide.

Disney now confirms that Snow White will be available to rent and purchase on VOD starting Tuesday, May 13. A special two-movie bundle that includes the original animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will also be available digitally on this date. The announcement accompanies the reveal that the live-action remake will arrive on 4K Uhd and Blu-ray on June 24, with this date also marking the release of the DVD version of the two-movie collection.

Gal Gadot Is Ditching the Tiara for Trauma in ‘Ruin,’ After ‘Snow White’ Downfall
Image
Mark your watchlists, a new Gal Gadot movie is in the works. We’re still reeling from all the controversy surrounding that subpar Snow White remake. Regardless, the actor who became a household name with Wonder Woman has no time for such trivialities in life. She has been busy lately. And from the looks of things, it’s for all the right reasons.

Soon, everyone will forget about Snow White’s politically charged backlash that (quite distastefully) managed to drag even the Israel-Palestine conflict into its midst. That’s just how Hollywood’s ruthless engine has functioned for a long time. Nevertheless, Gadot’s new movie is bound to give many talking heads something new to talk about. After all, she’s stepping into the shoes of a “newly released camp prisoner” in post-wwii Germany.

The Rachel Zegler Snow White Controversy Explained
Image
"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" originates from the gruesome fairy tales by Giambattista Basile and the Brothers Grimm, which are bloody, nightmarish stories that most parents wouldn't read to their children. Since then, "Snow White" has inspired everything from horror flicks to erotic films, further adding to its legacy as a twisted story at heart.

However, thanks to Disney reimagining the once-brutal narrative as a more wholesome story, "Snow White" is now regarded as a family-friendly fantasy about a princess, her loyal dwarf companions, and a handsome prince who steals her heart. Well, that's how it used to be perceived, as the House of Mouse's live-action "Snow White" remake, starring Rachel Zegler as the titular princess, is even more controversial than the story's horrifying roots.

2025's "Snow White" is a passable live-action retelling that updates the story for modern times, but the film's myriad of scandals have turned it...

South Korean comedy-drama “Lobby” slipped to third place with $290,668 and 41,512 additional viewers. The film has now grossed $1.6 million with over 243,000 total admissions.

Steven Spielberg Had A Wild Snow White Movie Pitch That Never Got Made
Image
The first published version of "Snow White" dropped in 1812, as authored by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. The Grimm Brothers re-wrote the story in 1854, however, and that's the version that most audiences know. The tale centers on a vain, evil queen with a magic mirror that gives her daily affirmations. When she asks if she is the fairest (at a time when having pale skin was a sign of beauty), the mirror would reply that she was. The queen's wicked idyll is then interrupted by the birth of a young maiden named Snow White for her fairness. To retain her unofficial title of Fairest in the Land, the queen aims to have Snow White murdered. Her schemes involved servants, spells, and a home populated by seven miners.

"Snow White" has been adapted for other mediums numerous times since then. There are poems, ballets, operas, comic books, video games, and many, many...

The Classic Horror Movie Inspired By Disney's Snow White
Image
"Disney" and "horror" are not words that go together for most people. The filmmaking company's brand is synonymous with animated family movies. It's an organization built on dreams, not nightmares.

Think, though, and you'll realize that the very best Disney films typically have moments of horror. The Headless Horseman's appearance in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is the first time I can remember a movie scaring me. The wicked Coachman (Charles Judels) in "Pinocchio" delights in turning little boys into jackasses, sentencing them to a living hell as donkeys deprived of humanity. "Hellfire" from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" even has Judge Claude Frollo (Tony Jaye) being tormented by his lust for Esmeralda (Demi Moore) and apparitions, all backed to an ominous, ghostly Latin choir.

Then, look back to the beginning of the Disney animated feature canon with 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." After sparing Snow White (Adriana Caselotti...

‘Snow White’ Box Office Collection: How Much Disney Will Lose If Rachel Zegler’s Live Action Continues Its Downward Spiral
Image
It’s been a rough ride for Disney’s latest live-action venture, and this time, the fairytale magic just isn’t working. The highly anticipated Snow White remake, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, has stumbled hard at the box office, and things aren’t looking any better. While Disney has had its fair share of live-action successes, this one might go down as one of its biggest losses.

At this point, the numbers are doing all the talking, and they’re not pretty. Despite the legacy of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), the first full-length animated feature film and an obvious groundbreaking achievement, this adaptation has failed to win over audiences.

‘Snow White’ Actress Whose Career Was Ruined After Playing Iconic Disney Princess Makes Me Worried For Rachel Zegler
Image
Walt Disney may be remembered as the visionary artist behind some of pop culture’s most beloved characters like Mickey Mouse and Disney princesses. But no amount of whitewashing by history can convince me he wasn’t responsible for ruining the lives and careers of people, including that of a Snow White voice actress, Adriana Caselotti, who now remains largely forgotten to time.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) [Credit: Walt Disney Productions]

In a saga that is no less than tragic, Caselotti’s experience with Walt Disney in 1937 mirrors the same treatment that Rachel Zegler has been facing with the studio since the pre-production days of Snow White. Despite the two films being separated by a span of 88 years, the similarity in Hollywood’s harsh and exploitative attitude towards its stars still remains the same.

88 years later, history repeats itself once again with the legacy of Snow White once more at stake.

This 'Snow White' Iron Studios Figure Will Be The Fairest Of Them All In Your Collection
Image
Before the 2025 live-action adaptation, the 1937 animated version of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs made strides in animation. It was the first animated feature produced in the United States and was given an honorary Oscar in 1938. To celebrate the return of this Disney princess, Iron Studios is releasing two new figures based on the iconic film. Iron Studios revealed two 1/10 scale Snow White figures featuring the iconic princess, and both are now available for pre-order.

The first figure, listed at $699.99, features Snow White standing on top of a pedestal, and around her are the seven dwarves and her forest animal friends. The detailed pedestal also features the evil queen as the hag, presenting the poisoned apple. But if that figure is too much, there is a second figure that costs $249.99. This figure only features Snow White and Dopey, as well as a few forest animals. Both figures are currently...

The Unofficial Snow White 'Sequel' That Disney Forced To Change Its Name
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

John Howley's 1989 animated film "Happily Ever After" was conceived as a sequel to the "Snow White" fairy tale. Its story extrapolated partly from the earliest published version by the Brothers Grimm but also partly from the 1937 Disney-produced film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." "Happily Ever After" didn't re-use any of Disney's designs, voices, characters, or concepts (at least none that weren't already in the Public Domain), but one can see how Howley's film relied on vague cultural echoes that Disney originally yawped into the mass consciousness. Snow White (Irene Cara), for example, had almost identical hair and wore a similar dress to the version of the character designed by Walt Disney.

"Happily Ever After" staggered during its brief theatrical run, making only $3.3 million at the box office on a modest $6.8 million budget (although it was later heavily rented...

20 Obscure Disney Movies You've Never Heard Of
Image
Exploring the vaults, libraries, and digital collections of Disney films can reveal a horde of obscure titles many haven't heard of. While classics like Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and even cult hits like Tron have established Disney's reputation as one of the most influential storytellers of the past century, there are countless productions that time has forgotten. Not every Disney movie is destined for greatness, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth a second look. Whether good, bad or simply forgettable, each Disney film offers insight into the eras, cultures, and creative minds that shaped them.

Founded by Walt Disney over a century ago, The Walt Disney Company was, in Walt's words, "started by a mouse." Known for its quality animation, storytelling and constant innovation, Disney quickly became a multimedia giant that continually raised the entertainment bar. With the groundbreaking success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs...

Snow White Remake Fixes the 1937 Movie's Most Controversial Arc, But Creates a Major Plot Hole in the Process
Image
Quick LinksWhat Was Snow White's Initial Problem? The Snow White Remake Changes the Prince Into a Kindred Spirit

The following contains spoilers for 2025's Snow White, now playing in theaters.

As with many Disney properties, and Hollywood in general, many movies and shows of yesteryear haven't aged well. Not all were completely bad and outdated, but some had problematic elements to them. Dumbo is a prime example, as certain racist connotations had to be cut for the remake. The original Snow White animated movie also falls into this bucket.

While the original 1937 movie is not terrible or wholly offensive, parts of the movie reinforce harmful gender stereotypes. One major arc from the original movie that plays into this problem in troubling ways is the romance arc between Snow White and her Prince. Though the 2025 remake fixes this issue, it does create a major plot hole in the process.

Disney exec defends importance of 'Snow White'
Image
Disney's live-action remake of 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been making headlines, and not with very positive reviews. From its dismal reception to its measly box office take, it feels like this fractured fairy tale is more poison than apple.

However, as troublesome as production was for this adaptation, it did do one thing right. It serves as a reminder that fouling up the formula of such a landmark Disney classic is a bad idea. To further illustrate just what an impact the original had, take a look at what Roy Disney had to say back in 1994.

If it ain't broke, don't remake it!

If you were a child of the '90s or at least owned a VHS copy of the original Snow White, you know who Roy E. Disney is. Nephew of Walt Disney and partner to then-ceo Michael Eisner. Roy Disney did wonders for reviving the classic Disney image.

Disney’s ‘Snow White’ hits sour note at the box office with sleepy $43 million opening
Image
Update March 24, 2025: Disney's Snow White missed the note with audiences over the weekend — earning a lackluster $43 million over its March 21 to March 23 debut. Strapped down with controversies (more on that below) and poor reviews (a certified stinker on Rotten Tomatoes), Snow White trickled in below already modest projections of $50 million, yet still managed to top the box office. The even bigger bomb was Warner Bros.' The Alto Nights starring Robert De Niro, which didn't even crack the top five with receipts totaling just over $3 million. Instead, Black Bag finished in second with $4.4 million, followed by Captain America: Brave New World ($4.1 million), Mickey 17 ($3.9 million), and last week's champ, Novocaine, dropping to fifth place with just $3.8 million in its second week of release. The March 2025 box office is down 6.3 percent from last year and 14.6 percent from 2023.

Snow White Was Drowned in Bad Reviews but the Rising Audience Score Tells a Different Story
Image
Disney is no stranger to controversies. Since its creation, and release of its first animated film, 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the studio has become of the biggest names in the film industry, and its continuous changes have often come with pushback from audiences.

Throughout its long run, Disney has taken good and bad decisions with its big franchises. A huge conglomerate, the studio owns some of the biggest titles of all time, and has set itself apart as one of the highest-grossing studios. Its latest project is a live-action version of Snow White, which has been hit with controversy and bad reviews, but the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes following its Mar. 21 release tells a different, more enchanting story.

They say all press is good press, but Snow White is proving that isn't always the case. Since Rachel Zegler's casting, her comments taken out of context...

Disney executives might feel more aligned with the dwarves known as Grumpy or Bashful rather than one called Happy after a Sleepy box office start for “Snow White.”

The studio’s live-action remake of 1937’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” opened slightly behind expectations at the international box office with $44.3 million from 51 markets. Top earning territories were the United Kingdom with $5.1 million, Mexico with $4.1 million and France with $3 million. The film bombed in China with an embarrassing $900,000.

“Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler as the eponymous heroine and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, ignited to $43 million domestically for a global launch of $87.3 million. Headed into the weekend, the controversy-laden fairy tale was expected to reach $100 million in its worldwide debut. How Many Times Has Disney Nearly Gone Broke, Bankrupt, or Been on the Verge of a Sale?

The Walt Disney Company stands as a titan in global entertainment, its name evoking images of timeless animation, sprawling theme parks, and a seemingly unbreakable legacy. Yet, beneath this veneer of invincibility lies a history riddled with financial peril, near bankruptcies, and moments when the company’s very existence hung in the balance—or its ownership nearly slipped away.

This article takes an exhaustive look at these precarious episodes, drawing on archival records, historical accounts, and contemporary analyses to fact-check claims and provide a comprehensive picture. Below, we explore the key instances when Disney teetered on the edge of collapse or faced the prospect of being sold, enriched with additional details for a fuller narrative.

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs Is Disney's Most Enduring Box Office Hit
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

In the history of cinema, there are important movies. Then there are movies so important that it's truly hard to picture cinema as we know it without them. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is one of those movies. The visionary behind Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney had already made a name for himself with animated shorts. Disney's next big idea? An animated feature film. This may sound trite in the modern world but in the 1930s, it was an enormous box office gamble.

The notion of trying to keep audiences entertained with 90 minutes of animation seemed outlandish. Movies had only gone from silence to sound several years earlier. Would people truly turn up for a feature-length animated production? One that would cost a fortune to make,...

“Evil Queen is the most interesting character”: Scandalous ‘Snow White’ Take Claims She’s Just an “uninteresting plot device” in 1937 Version
Image
The animation genre has been taking the Hollywood industry by storm in recent years, with several blockbuster movies at the box office. But the one that paved the way for everyone was Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released all the way back in 1937. It came at a time when not a lot was known about the genre, and it’s safe to say that almost nine decades later it still remains a timeless classic.

However, throughout the years several controversial claims have been made challenging its legacy. Also, Snow White as a character adds zero value to the movie and is just there so that the story moves forward. The same has resurfaced again on social media, where a user has detailed more on why Snow White is not actually a fully realized character.

Snow White (2025) Movie Review: Rachel Zegler Shines in Disney’s Live-Action Remake that Simply Can’t Overcome its Princess Problems

Family adventure films have long drawn mileage from quest narratives layered atop allegorical fairy tales. But in an era where Disney’s commodified storytelling has evolved into a saturated subgenre of intellectual property mining, it’s worth revisiting how 1937’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” first unlocked a vault of canonical fairy tales that shaped the animation industry. As the first-ever U.S. animated feature, the film not only made waves worldwide with its groundbreaking innovation and craftsmanship but also cemented itself as an inextricable part of Disney’s brand identity.

While cherry blossom-themed theme park rides, an endless array of merchandise, and Broadway adaptations have helped Disney retain its legacy, the studio hasn’t been able to steer clear of the controversies surrounding its live-action remake—one that has faced scrutiny since pre-production, nearly 88 years after the original. Despite the studio’s continued dominance in box office revenue,...

The film and its makers faced a lot of backlash, and obtaining a favorable reaction in the early previews was much needed for the Disney feature. Rachel Zegler Was Scared of the Original Snow White Before She Was Cast in Disney’s Live-Action

Even before Disney’s Snow White hit the theaters, people were petrified of how Rachel Zegler’s controversial comments surrounding the Og storyline would impact the box office. So now that the movie finally arrived on the big screen, on March 21, netizens are tracing back to Zegler’s remarks.

One of the most baffling comments that caught our attention was Rachel Zegler reflecting on her fear of the movie and the character, as a child. Snow White's Evil Queen Works On Paper, But Gal Gadot's Performance Is A Disaster
Image
We are in a creative age when villains are typically misunderstood. The box office success of Universal Pictures' adaptation of "Wicked" has merely cemented the obvious: the bad guys we know aren't really all that bad, if we get to know them. The Wicked Witch of the West, one of the most iconic villains in cinema history, has been thoroughly and agreeably overhauled into Elphaba, an intelligent and moral young woman who rebels against a con artist who calls himself the Wizard and demonizes her to his people to ensure that they'll stay true to him.

But "Wicked" is far from the only piece of modern pop culture that tries to revisit quintessential baddies. Perhaps it's fitting that a number of the most recent examples come from the Walt Disney Company, which first established itself as a place where classic stories of good and evil can be told and retold on the big screen.

How ‘Snow White’ earned Walt Disney the most unique Oscar ever — and why the Academy will probably never do that again

Walt Disney didn’t just make animation history — he made Academy Award history. To this day, Disney still holds many Academy Awards records, including the most competitive Oscars (a whopping 22) and the most Oscars overall (a monumental 26). This record includes myriad Oscars for Best Short Subject (Cartoon) for such animated shorts as "Flowers and Trees" (1932), "The Three Little Pigs" (1933), "The Ugly Duckling" (1939), and "Der Fuehrer’s Face" (1942), and a set of honorary Oscars, including one for the creation of Mickey Mouse (1932), the use of sound in Fantasia (1942), and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in (1942). However, it was at the 11th Academy Awards in 1939 when Disney was bestowed the most unique Oscar in history.

At the ceremony on Feb. 23, 1939, Disney was given an honorary Academy Award for his first feature-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). By definition, honorary awards have always been special, but Disney’s was particularly unique.

Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler’s ‘Snow White’ Box Office Collections Already Hint a Sleeper Hit Despite Gargantuan $240M Budget

Directed by Marc Webb, Disney’s Snow White was one of the anticipated movies of 2025, and it stars Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap. The movie is a live-action adaptation of the 1937 animated movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Since the announcement of the movie, it has received backlash for casting, story changes, the reimagining of the Seven Dwarfs, and the lead actress’ comments about the original animated movie.

Snow White: The 5 Biggest Changes In Disney's Live-Action Remake
Image
Spoilers for "Snow White" (2025) ahead.

By this point, it almost feels as if Disney has already remade every one of its animated classics in live-action. It's a trend that started in the mid-1990s with the Mouse House's live-action redo of "101 Dalmatians," before really ramping up in 2010 with Tim Burton's 3D version of "Alice in Wonderland." Now, at long last, the studio has gone back to the movie that started it all.

Both Disney's first feature film and feature-length animated movie, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was released in 1937. Its number is finally up, though, as Disney has gone and refashioned it as a blend of live-action and CGI, this time going under the title "Snow White." (You can read /Film's review of the film here.) With "West Side Story" and "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" alum Rachel Zegler playing the titular heroine...

Snow White Europe Box Office: Rachel Zegler & Gal Gadot Starrer Unleashes An Undesirable Feat For Disney In France!
Image
Snow White Europe Box Office Day 1 ( Photo Credit – YouTube )

Disney’s latest magnum opus, Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, arrived early in selected overseas centers before going all out in the United States. While the makers expected positive momentum from international regions, the reality is heartbreaking. Yes, the European box office response has been poor so far, with France and Italy witnessing undesirable feats.

Reception in the European market

The musical fantasy film, which is a live-action reimagining of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, opened in Europe on Wednesday. On March 19, it opened in France, while in Italy, it arrived on March 20. Among critics, it has fetched poor reviews so far. While the performance of Rachel Zegler is being praised by many, the overall film is getting bashed as a half-hearted attempt.

Among audiences, Snow White is faring with extremely negative word-of-mouth. This pretty much seals the film’s fate,...

Gal Gadot & Rachel Zegler Serve Snow White Glam in Contrasting Gowns & Stunning Heels

Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler made quite a statement at the world premiere of Snow White, which The Guardian refers to as “Disney’s exhaustingly awful reboot.”

Channeling their roles in the controversial live-action adaptation of the 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Gadot dressed in black like the jealous evil queen character she’s portraying, while Zegler looked like a princess in her blush pink gown.

The world premiere of Disney’s “Snow White” at the El Capitan Theatre was not as elaborate as expected, coinciding with the controversies surrounding the Marc Webb-directed movie.

Despite the scaled-back premiere, I commend Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler for putting on a united front and dressing their best!

Online Wars Aside, ‘Snow White’ Simply Isn’t Getting Moviegoers to Buy In
Image
After years of delays and online vitriol, Disney is finally set to release its remake of “Snow White,” and it’s going to take a lot to keep it from becoming one of the biggest flops in the studio’s now decade-old remake series.

With a reported production budget said to be at least $250 million, “Snow White” is tracking for a domestic opening of $45-50 million and a global opening of around $100 million. For comparison, the domestic range is similar to the $45.9 million launch of Tim Burton’s 2019 remake of “Dumbo,” which went on to gross a disappointing $353 million worldwide against a $170 million budget before marketing.

That leaves “Snow White” in a situation where it will need an unexpected, multiweek comeback akin to what “Mufasa” achieved this past winter just to break even. Like “Mufasa,” it’s not going to get help from critics, who are tepid on the film...

Disney acknowledges 'Snow White' backlash in new poster
Image
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the rock on which Walt Disney Animation Studios is built, but it's upcoming live-action remake has been making waves in the wrong direction. From conflicts with its leading lady to CGI dwarves, Disney fans aren't exactly hopeful... and neither is the studio.

Despite almost universal hate for the film, Disney continues to try to save face with much of its marketing. Although the trailers might evoke a sense of nostalgia for many, a recent movie poster for the upcoming adaptation seems to throw up the white flag.

‘Snow White’ Review: Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot Face Off in One of the Better Live-Action Disney Remakes. And Yes, the Controversies Are Bupkes
Image
With all the turmoil besetting the real world, you’d think there might be more important things to inflate into controversies than the pre-release kerfuffles that have plagued “Snow White.” As it turns out, this is one of the better live-action adaptations of a Disney animated feature. And I say that as someone who mostly doesn’t like them. Yes, I’ve enjoyed a couple. At heart, though, I still don’t truly get the idea of Disney strip-mining its animated IP — and doing so not because there’s anything inherently appealing about turning painterly fairy-tale cartoons into stilted, less sublime real-life versions of themselves. What the remakes are selling is the theme-park novelty of the transformation: Look, here’s what an animated classic looks like when it’s retrofitted with sets and actors!

All that said, the chirpy, vivacious, just-romantic-enough-to-get-by “Snow White” proves to be an exception to the rule.

Snow White Review: The Latest Disney Remake Is Better Than Expected But Still Pretty Dopey
Image
It was going to come to this eventually. Beginning in 2010 with the release of Tim Burton's not-at-all-good "Alice in Wonderland," the Disney Entertainment Complex discovered they could make billions merely remaking their most popular animated films using live-action actors and modern-day CGI. In the last 15 years, the company has gleefully cannibalized its own catalogue, siphoning nostalgia from the brains of millennials like so much cerebrospinal fluid. This was a curious practice, as the bulk of the films they were remaking were already based on folk tales, ancient stories, or children's literature that is adapted frequently by filmmakers the world over.

The raison d'être of these remakes (apart from the nostalgia money) was seemingly to allow Disney to keep their flag of ownership deeply planted in tales like "Cinderella," "Aladdin," and "The Little Mermaid," assuring audiences that, yes, their version was the "official" version. Hans Christian Andersen is just some old hack,...

‘Snow White’ Review: Rachel Zegler Is Practically Perfect in Disney Remake Otherwise Full of Bad Ideas
Image
In this pessimistic, cynical world of ours it’s easy to get hung up on the negative, so let’s try to be positive. There’s nothing wrong with Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” that couldn’t be fixed by making it 26 minutes shorter, 88 years ago and in hand-drawn animation.

There’s also nothing wrong with Rachel Zegler’s performance. The “West Side Story” star has walked right out of the classic cartoon, with a pitch perfect singing voice, spot-on physicality, and a theatrical, emotional performance that resonates. Zegler received endless, cruel insults from so-called Disney fans who objected to her casting — for reasons that ran from racist, to racist with other bad reasons too — but she’s the only participant in this production who completely understood the assignment and brings “Snow White” to actual, meaningful life.

Marc Webb’s remake takes the storyline of the original film,...

Snow White Review — Rachel Zegler Shines in a Magical Remake That Surpasses the Original
Image
Another live-action remake from the Mickey Mouse studio, another season of inflated controversies and extremist behavior from those swayed by questionable agendas. Whether it’s Rachel Zegler’s (West Side Story) casting as Snow White, potential narrative changes, the actress’ criticism of the original film, or the decision to use CGI dwarfs instead of real actors, the truth is that none of these controversies are actually relevant to expectations or one’s eventual opinion of the movie. In fact, I have no interest in them whatsoever.

The online debate has been drowned in exasperating noise, fueled by the same bad-faith channels that thrive on artificial outrage and wide-eyed thumbnail reactions. We already know what’s going to happen: Snow White will be relentlessly review-bombed, making ratings on various public platforms utterly meaningless.

‘Snow White’ First Reactions Praise Film as a ‘Visual Feast’ and One of Disney’s ‘Best Live-Action Remakes in Years’
Image
Disney’s live-action “Snow White” remake has finally been unveiled at the movie’s Hollywood premiere, and first reactions are trickling in calling it a dazzling hit for the House of Mouse.

Variety film reporter Katcy Stephan praised star Rachel Zegler as “a shining supernova,” adding that the film is a “visual feast with show-stopping new musical numbers and, of course, dozens of enchanting animated animals. The screenplay wisely gives its heroine newfound depth through her fervent desire to become the leader her father believed she could be, and a love story that’s sweet as apple pie.”

Online critic Christopher Rates It wrote of the film, “‘Snow White’ is not only one of their best live-action remakes in years, but it’s also a film that recaptures the magic of the 1937 movie. Rachel Zegler Is Snow White, and she delivers such a magical performance.”

Filmhounds editor Paul Klein echoed the praise with one caveat,...

Snow White's Controversies Continue as Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler 'Have Nothing in Common'
Image
The upcoming live-action remake of Snow White is not Disney's first venture into the world of remakes, but it's certainly one of its most controversial projects. With several other successful attempts, like 2015's Cinderella and 2017's Beauty and the Beast, the fairest of them all is not quite as popular.

The upcoming Disney film stars West Side Story's Rachel Zegler as the titular character and Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Zegler's casting has led to a wave of backlash, as her mother has Columbian descendants, and the character is described as fair-skinned. With the premiere getting closer, an insider claimed the "tensions" are getting higher between the two co-stars, telling People that Gadot and Zegler have "nothing in common."

The two actresses might have a huge age gap, but that hasn't stopped other actors. Press tours are vital in the promotion of a film, which...

“They’re Afraid Of The Blowback”: Snow White Remake Avoiding A Traditional Red Carpet Addressed By Star As He Defends Its Dwarf Depiction
Image
Snow White starMartin Klebba is defending Disney's controversial remake in light of recent developments about their world premiere. Klebba has a major role in the movie as Grumpy, one of the seven CGI dwarves. As the next Disney live-action remake, Snow White features Rachel Zegler as its titular star, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman. Andrew Burnap also plays the important role of Jonathan, a new love interest for Snow White. The movie has been a lightning rod for controversy since Peter Dinklage spoke out about its "backwards" portrayal of dwarfism.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Klebba, who also has dwarfism, opened up about the controversy. While he acknowledges the lack of a red carpet ceremony, he is excited about the release and is proud of his role. He believes that the CGI dwarves were a logical decision, but that he wishes...

Snow White Movies Box Office Numbers Ranked: From Disney’s 1937 Classic To Kristen Stewart & Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman Franchise

Here’s A Look At The Box Office Numbers Of 8 Previous Snow White Films (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Rachel Zegler’s highly controversial live-action remake of Snow White is nearing its release as the latest of countless spins on the fairytale. However, the Disney flick has only been creating headlines for negative reasons, and the biggest factor in its success—potential box office performance—is not looking promising.

With Gal Gadot in tow, Snow White certainly has Cinderella’s magical shoes to fill, be it Walt Disney’s 1937 gamble or last decade’s modern spin with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. The Brothers Grimm’s German princess has graced cinema screens repeatedly, and here are 8 of the fairest of all Snow Whites at the box office, as per the numbers.

Pressure is building up surrounding Disney’s upcoming movie, Snow White remake starring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler. While Zegler is going to play the titular role, the Wonder Woman actress will be seen as the Evil Queen. 'Snow White' Report: Disney Wants "Get This Thing Over With" Amid Backlash
Image
Following the news that Disney was not holding a premiere for Snow White out of concerns for the growing controversy around the film, more details paint conflicting narratives. One is where Disney is sticking by their film, but others note that the company is nervous about its prospects as it faces backlash and controversies. Starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, Snow White is a live-action remake of Walt Disney's first animated film, 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. On paper, Snow White sounds like a film that would be a spectacle, but instead, the film has been at the receiving end of a lot of hate.

One theater owner and a rival studio told The Hollywood Reporter that, unlike other Disney live-action remakes, the massive marketing machine has been rather quiet on Snow White until recently, only putting tickets up for the movie on Monday, Mar. 10, 2025, just 11 days before it opens in theaters.

Disney Won't Allow Press At Snow White Premiere Following Rachel Zegler And Gal Gadot Controversies
Image
Disney's Snow White remake arrives in theaters a little over a week from now but the movie won't receive the typical red carpet treament.

According to Variety (via Toonado.com), while there will be a pre-party and screening at the El Capitan Theatre with stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, no members of the press have been invited to attend the premiere. That means no interviews and, perhaps most importantly for Disney, no awkward questions.

Instead, the plan is for coverage to be "limited to photographers and a house crew."

It sounds like this surprising change comes as a result of the "controversies" surrounding Snow White. For starters, there's the fact a Latina actress is playing the title character, a decision that faced backlash from the start. Zegler, who obviously didn't deserve any of the racist abuse she suffered, failed to win over fans by calling the 1937 animated movie "dated...

Quick LinksDisney’s Bambi Subverted Critical Expectations in 1942Bambi Would Go On to Become a Beloved Disney FilmA CGI Remake Similar to The Lion King Is Planned for Disney’s Bambi

In 1942, Disney released its fifth full-length animated feature, Bambi. The story followed a young forest prince as he grew into adulthood in the animal kingdom. Similar in plot to Disney's later smash hit, The Lion King (1994), the film follows Bambi through the loss of a parent and the maturation of his relationships; his understanding of responsibility and self-reliance. The movie itself was based on a 1923 Austrian coming-of-age novel by Felix Salten: Bambi, a Life in the Woods. Often seen as a parable examining Jewish persecution, the Disney adaptation surprised some critics on its release.

Prior to Bambi, Disney had released movies such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), and Dumbo (1941) -- cementing itself as a studio of magic,...
