- In this episode of the TCM series, Private Screenings, Robert Osborne interviews Angela Lansbury. Born October 16, 1925 she is the daughter of an actress and the granddaughter of a high-ranking British politician, George Lansbury. Lansbury studied acting from her youth, departing England for the United States as the Second World War began. In this biographical interview, she discusses the three phases of her career: movies, Broadway/stage, and television. She comments on her involvement in the movie "Gaslight" where she was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress in her first film. Two pictures later she was again nominated for Best Supporting Actress, in the movie "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1945). After contract work with MGM and Paramount, she became a freelance artist and in order to supplement her income she went into TV and stage work. As of this writing she has been in 103 films and TV series. She discusses her personal life and some of the behind the scenes anecdotes from several of her movies including "The Harvey Girls", "The Court Jester", "Blue Hawaii", "All Fall Down", "The Manchurian Candidate", "The World of Henry Orient", "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" and others. On Broadway she was a hit in "Mame". She has won 4 Tony Awards for work on Broadway. She also has won awards for her portrayal of Jessica Fletcher in the long running television series, Murder She Wrote (1984-1996).

For the first time, an entry in this series was recorded before an audience. It was taped at the Historic Asolo Theatre in Sarasota, Florida as part of the 9th annual Sarasota Film Festival. The interview took about two hours and was edited down to one hour for broadcast.
