15 June 2023
One of few pictures concerning of Cuba departure of political prisoners when Fidel Castro decides release 110.000 of them in 1980 toward many free countries mainly in America more specifically at Miami at Florida that received a wave of 55.000 political refugees, a great exodus of 20th century took place in America on early eighties, among them a fictional Perez family's story expose in this movie.

When the revolutionary communist Fidel Castro overthrew Fulgencio Batista in late fifties in Cuba the owner of sugar cane farmer Juan Raul Perez (Alfred Molina) sent all his family to Florida, on hope aftermaths follow them, sadly Juan is hold by the new system due he was supposedly a menace to communists if was unleashed, thus Juan remains in the Cuba's jail for twenty years, when his bother in law the swindler Angel Diaz (Diego Wallraff) enriched at Florida with his sister Carmela Perez (Anjelica Huston) in fact Angel bribed the Cuban to set free him, this money somehow it extended your permanece, retrain Juan at jail, feeding the rotten system.

When Juan arrived at Miami together a dreamer girl Dorita Evita Perez (Marisa Tomei) sexy than never, they needing gathering a full family to be available to the sponsors who see fit for those kind of people to exploit on several low jobs, Dorita convinces Juan as pretend husband and an old man as con father, also a rascal street boy to reunite a pony family in order to release of refugee camp at football stadium.

Meanwhile Carmela is hope up about the arrival of his old husband Juan, in other hand Angel Diaz makes everything to avoid a slight possibility of Juan could approach of his sister in face his lowest position as mere street flowers seller, even so Juan snooping on his wife dating with a police officer Lt. John Pirelli (Chazz Palminteri), therefore in results this dead end issues Juan and Dorita starting a mutual sexual romance, so what coming next?

A movie made solely addressed to Latin audience, whatsoever, if not for historical study this bleak period of time when Castro expelled their fellow countrymen who somehow were unsatisfied with newest red system deployed inextricable in this doomed island that lives sad days of strongest poverty, legal uncertainties, also the people living in a worthy manner, good movie indeed.
