Warning: Spoilers
I dropped my rating from 7 to 4 today after watching Cash McCall for the first time in many years. Younger me really liked this movie, but this 1960 film just does not stand the test of time. The story line and chemistry between to two leads is stilted & artificial. For instance, why would Lori feel Cash had "cheapened" her when he protected her virtue. Sending her home and not taking advantage of a situation when he discovers her in the nude in his living room, is not the action of a philanderer. When it comes to the business dealings between McCall & Austen where are the lawyers, the contracts, the dotting of i's, the crossing of t's. It's a wonder Austen hadn't lost his shirt years before. I can't imagine anyone who had spent years building a very successful business would be so cavalier about the sale of his life's work. James Garner, Natalie Wood & Dean Jagger were wonderful actors. It's too bad the script & probably the direction failed them.
