Honestly not that bad, but not memorable.

Everytime I saw people talking about Johnny Mnemonic (1995) they would often describe it as a bad, cheap looking movie with poor acting. So when my boyfriend and I decided to watch it, we expected to get a good laugh out of it and nothing more. And yet, I did enjoy watching it in the end. I find it not so different from other sci-fi action movies from the 90's, even a bit original in its storyline. However, I do think some key elements where badly dealt with, such as Johnny's memory loss and the whole disease thing which I struggle to comprehend. I do agree on the fact that this movie looks not so great, its special effects definitly aged badly, especially the scene towards the end where there is a hilariously awful 3D render of Keanu Reeves. Concerning the acting, it's not as awful as people like to describe it. The actress who plays Jane did a good job in my opinion, same for the more secondary actors (it was such a surprise to discover that Takeshi Kitano is in this,) and even though I've seen Keanu Reeves give better perfomances I still think he did fine. Did this movie stuck with me though ? Not really. Honestly, the biggest plot twist in this was when the credits rolled and I discovered that Robert Longo directed it. I could not believe it was the same Robert Longo that made the series of photographs "Men in the Cities", so I had to check... And it's really him. It's so random honestly. Would I pick this again for another movie night ? I don't think so, or at least not in the near future. Would I recommend it though ? I mean, sure, it's not an unpleasant experience.
