One of the key script pivots in DEBORAH, just before the big Reveal (that the Alexa-like device can reverse time) is when one of the group of friends asks the others "What is it called when the thing is supposed to fix something else breaks?" The irony is that, presumably, the point of this film was to show that human beings are just clever animals who, in the right circumstances would revert to childish, unsuppressed, and impulse-driven behavior. That is a seriously ambitious goal for a low-budget indie with a small ensemble cast and a limited set--almost a stage play, really--and, in the opinion of this reviewer, it's a swing and a miss. Instead of using the "stop time" gimmick to advance the story, it is simply used to refresh the story whenever it goes over the top. Which it does a lot. It is the same difference between, for example, teaching someone to use a gun, or simply picking up a gun and shooting your student. Both teach you about guns. But in completely different ways.
