Dr. Veronica "Ronnie" Simon seemed to have it all. She was the wife of a rising politician. She was thriving in her practice as a psychiatrist. She had a beautiful daughter. She had only the finest in life. And yet she threw it all away on a weekend fling with a handsome artist. Or, did she?

The filmmakers were successful in building a melodramatic yarn in New Orleans around the complex character of Ronnie. There was a successful ebb and flow in the action in her relationship with the needy, fragile, and mentally impaired Victor.

From the beginning, Ronnie seemed to be playing with fire when she chose to purchase one of Victor's art works. One thing led to another, and she found herself on the receiving end of the obsession of a lost soul.

The film made use of the technique of a recurring interview of Ronnie taking place in the present as she reflects on the past. Unfortunately, the clips from the interview tended to break up the film's narrative and disrupt the pacing and flow of the action.

The film demonstrated that there was nothing inevitable about the tragic outcome of the Simon family. Rather, a series of random events evolve into a chain of specific choices made by Ronnie that eventually propels her back into the limelight. There were interesting twists and unexpected turning points in this shattering tale of lust, ambition, greed, and guilt.
