SPOILER ALERT . . . SPOILER ALERT . . . A Fungus Among Us?
14 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
At 37:15 Attenborough's narrative suggests that when the insect population becomes too much - the rain forest balances itself.

A 'Zombified' ant is shown, compelled to climb high up into the forest canopy in isolation, it is then filled with an irresistible urge to chomp down on a leaf for an anchor. What follows is something more horrifying than your worst nightmare and certainly the stuff of some horror science fiction as the ant is transformed by the fungus that had invaded it and made it do all this. It sprouts a white spirelike fur and purple hornlike things sprout from its head to form pods for spreading the fungus all over the forest floor below.

Cue the carcasses of other grotesquely dead bugs similarly felled.

So, regarding our own massive (antlike?) impact on the planet, is this perhaps a metaphoric parallel regarding the Candida auris fungus now among us?
