That's the best part of the show, detroit itself is a character in the show, one that the two stars make fun of in a loving way. Detroit is as essential to Detroiters as New York is to When Harry Met Sally. The adds made in the show are based on the adds the two stars of the show watched growing up in detroit. In real life Tim is married and Sam is single. In real life both of the lead actors are best friends.
