Review of Getaway

Getaway (I) (2013)
5/10
A look at the crew for GETAWAY shows what's wrong here . . .
8 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
. . . as there are MORE caterers (12) itemized than speaking parts (10)! GETAWAY was such a picnic at the film studio's expense (which is another way of saying on OUR tab, since we are the ones who PAY to watch flicks like GETAWAY, suckered in by trailers that are at least 10 times better than the movie itself), that two "cleaning ladies" had to be hired to tidy up after all the pigging out on our dime. Watch the credits for the better films of 2013 (including DALLAS BUYERS CLUB, NEBRASKA, AMER!CAN HUSTLE, SAVING MR. BANKS, and FROZEN), and not one of them lists the necessity of having a "cleaning lady" to mop up the swill when the entire budget for a film is disappearing into the cast and crew's stomachs, instead of bankrolling some of the things GETAWAY could have benefited from, such as additional cast members or competent screenwriters who could come up with a story that made sense and was interesting (GETAWAY is zero for two in those regards). Instead, we have Ethan Hawke seeing how many times he can trash the same park with his gray car! Hope the food was tasty, at least. PHONE BOOTH on wheels? More like Kafka on speed!
