Fox has canceled the drama series “Rescue Hi-Surf,” Variety has confirmed.

The series aired for just one season at the broadcast network, which debuted in September. The season finale which aired in March will now serve as the series finale. The show was originally developed at Max (then HBO Max) before it was picked up to series by Fox in 2023.

News of the cancellation comes one week ahead of Fox’s presentation to advertisers at their annual upfront presentation in New York.

That’s because the Golden Globe Awards, which for decades have celebrated the best of film and television, are broadening their horizons: they will now fête podcasts too, the organization behind the event announced on Wednesday.

The Globes’ best podcast category will feature six nominees, chosen from among the 25 most-listened-to podcasts, “that have made a significant impact over the past year, celebrating the creativity and influence of creators worldwide.” (Comprehensive eligibility criteria and additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.)

Jeanine Pirro is exiting Fox News after 14 years to become interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. President Trump announced her appointment Thursday.

Members of the Writers Guild of America West are engaged in unusual vote this week on whether to banish two of their own — Roma Roth and Edward Drake — for allegedly performing “writing services” during the 2023 strike.

Roku’s head of content David Eilenberg is exiting his role at the tech company to return to his former employer, ITV America.

In his comeback, Eilenberg will take on the newly created role of ITV America’s creative director. Eilenberg will oversee the creative direction of “Love Island USA” producer ITV America, where he previously served as chief creative officer from 2018-2022. He exited in 2022 to take on the head of originals role at Roku and was soon promoted to chief of content.

Tko’s first quarter results, unveiled Thursday, reflect underlying strength at UFC and WWE in ticket sales, media rights, advertising and sponsorship dollars. His latest, Max’s new dramatic series “The Pitt,” set in a overflowing Pittsburgh emergency room, has ranked among 2024’s most popular hits (over 10 million views per episode). Easy explanations for the appeal of “The Pitt” range from its immersive, music-free “you are here now” structure — each episode of the procedural unwinds one hour of a 15-hour ER stint — to its dead-on accurate portrayal of contemporary medicine.

But mainly it’s a zeitgeist thing: the right show at the right time.

It’s been more than two decades since Ethan Zohn was crowned the winner of Season 3 of Survivor in January 2022. He beat runner-up Kim Johnson to be named the Sole Survivor during the season that took place in Africa. Zohn returned for Survivor: All-Stars, Season 8, which aired in 2004, but his likability proved to be too much of a threat, and he finished in 11th place. After dealing with serious health issues, Zohn made his grand return to Survivor for Season 40, the epic all winners’ season, and although he was the fourth person voted out, his incredible comeback was one of the stories of the season.
