The writer and director of slasher-comedy Freaky are reuniting for a brand new time-traveling slasher movie titled Time Cut, with Christopher Landon producing and Michael Kennedy writing the script alongside Hanna Macpherson (“Into the Dark”). MacPherson also directs Time Cut, which has been described as “Back to the Future meets Scream.”
We’ve learned today that Time Cut is coming to Netflix in 2024!
In the upcoming slasher, “A teenage girl travels back to the early 2000s to stop a vicious killer from murdering her sister.”
It sounds like this one is cut from the same cloth as Freaky, Happy Death Day, It’s a Wonderful Knife and Totally Killer, part of a new breed of horror-comedy-slasher hybrids.
Madison Bailey (Outer Banks) and Antonia Gentry (Ginny & Georgia) star alongside Michael Shanks, Griffin Gluck, Rachael Crawford, Jordan Pettle, Megan Best, Samuel Braun, Sydney Sabiston, and Kataem O’Connor.
Time Cut features a story by Michael Kennedy.

Plot: Supernatural horror, based on the eponymous online phenomenon, a ritual conducted in an elevator, in which players attempt to travel to another dimension using a set of rules that can be found online.
Review: After last year’s Glorious, Rebekah McKendry has become a name that my ears perk up to whenever I see a film with her name attached. She has an understanding of the genre and a level of technical prowess that makes her movies an absolute treat. Or at least I thought so. Because Elevator Game is certainly no Glorious. The premise of a game you play that kills you has been done time and time again, but this one has an interesting hook with it being set on an elevator, utilizing it as a portal to another dimension. But, concept aside, there’s very little else to attach to here.
The opening of the film sets up the premise perfectly,...

Elevator Game is the new film by Rebekah McKendry, a director who caught my attention with All the Creatures Were Stirring and impressed me with Glorious. On the other hand, she also has a writing credit on the dismal Bring It On: Cheer or Die. So I was a little apprehensive when she did another teen-themed film that not only shared a lot of that film’s cast but was based on an urban legend that’s about ten years past its expiration date.
However, it was an enjoyably creepy legend. I even got talked into playing it walking back to my hotel after several films and several beers at Sfff one year. Of course, nothing happened, but it was unnerving when the doors opened and I...

Shudder has unveiled an official trailer for a horror movie called Elevator Game, based on the eponymous online phenomenon. Who's in the mood for a very scary horror about elevators demons? The film will be streaming on Shudder on September 15th. Last year, director Rebekah McKendry impressed our reviewer Tyler Nichols with the horror film Glorious, which took place in a rest stop bathroom. (You can read Tyler’s 8/10 review at This Link.) Now McKendry has made another “supernatural happenings in a confined location” horror film called Elevator Game, and it’s going to be released through the Shudder streaming service very soon… just not as soon as we had previously heard. No, you’re not imagining things, I’m reviewing a film from the Bring It On franchise. Bring It On: Cheer or Die takes the never-ending series into horror territory and revisits the classic slasher trope of a killer mascot knocking off the cheer squad. That might not have gotten me curious, but it was a couple of the people involved behind the camera that convinced me to give it a look.
I was familiar with director Karen Lam from her short film Doll Parts which was included in the Shevenge anthology. And the script was co-written by Dana Schwartz (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) and Rebekah McKendry who directed one of the best films I’ve seen this year, Glorious as well as co-writing and co-directing the Christmas horror anthology,...

Simon Barrett directs with lurid video lighting and comically bad gore effects to deliver what looks like a cheap Italian horror film
At Edelvine, an exclusive boarding school for wealthy, willowy young ladies who all look 10 years too old to be in school, a clique of students gather in a dorm bathroom to summon the fabled Edelvine ghost. The exercise turns out to be a prank the school’s final year mean girls are playing on bullied, speccy, but still willowy Kerrie (Megan Best). But after Kerrie falls out of a window minutes later, the students wonder if their seance actually summoned a malign spirit from beyond the grave. At least poor Kerrie’s death opens up a place at the school for Camille, a young British woman who refuses to be bullied by senior queen bee Alice (Inanna Sarkis) and her coevals.

Along with a few fast-forgotten dogs, Simon Barrett has written some of the more enjoyable U.S. horror opuses over the last two decades, from 2004’s period ghost story “Dead Birds” through a series of Adam Wingard films that laid career path to that director’s current big-budget assignment “Godzilla vs. Kong.”
You might expect Barrett’s own belated feature directorial debut to expand upon the clever, blackly humorous genre mayhem of his best Wingard projects like “The Guest” and “You’re Next.” But “Seance” proves a disappointingly boilerplate retro slasher that’s pedestrian on every level from concept to execution. It’s not terrible, only so devoid of imagination, wit or novelty (as well as scares) that it seems a perversely generic choice with which to launch a new career phase. Rlje Films is releasing to U.S. and Canadian theaters, VOD and digital May 21, with co-distributor Shudder expected to...

Many things can be true at the same time, a concept that first-time feature director and long-time horror scribe Simon Barrett tries to tap into with his debut “Seance.” It hints at the possibility of two ghosts within its first five minutes and the twinned ghost stories soon expand to involve all manner of other horror-centric tropes: a creepy boarding school, a mysterious new girl, a shy new friend with (maybe) a secret, even a handsome outsider who loves to lurk — along with the usual assortment of flickering lights, bloody visions, and a basement filled with archival material that might hold some answers. Yes, many things can be true at once, but “Seance” might benefit from being pared to a more streamlined story.
Barrett’s film hints at the sleeker, darker film underneath his many genre fixations; it also sets up the possibility of a followup that could better tap into those ideas.
