Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio, the Italian directing duo best known internationally for their Locarno premiere “Seven Acts of Mercy,” are developing a colonial-era drama that they’re presenting during the Rotterdam Film Festival’s CineMart co-production market.
“Prince Aden” begins in 1935, when a 16-year-old Somali boy passes the test to become a dubat, a soldier in the Italian army that has invaded Ethiopia on the orders of Mussolini. Aden Sicré is sent to the frontlines, but after being injured on his first day of service he’s forced to return home – where he is unexpectedly hailed as a war hero by the Fascist regime.
Five years later, Aden is recruited to take part in a recreation of the daily life of an African village at the newly built Mostra d’Oltremare exhibition center in Naples. But when Italy enters the Second World War, the “human zoo” suddenly closes, stranding...

Trevor Graham’s disability rights documentary Chef Antonio’s Recipes For Revolution tells the story of chef Antonio de Benedetto who is on a quest to change the world with his delicious Italian food.
The film goes behind the scenes of an Benedetto’s Italian hotel-restaurant staffed by youngsters living with Downsyndrome.
The film is the first feature feature documentary to be granted the status of an Australian-Italian co-production. Producing with Graham are Lisa Wang, and Alessandro Borrelli.

Russian state film body Roskino and project market When East Meets West (Wemw) have selected 26 projects for Wemw Goes To Russia, a new international co-production forum to run during the upcoming Key Buyers Event: Digital (June 8-10).
Some 17 Russian projects and nine international works from eight different countries will participate in the co-production pitching, through which they will be able to meet Russian producers and access a minority co-production support granted by the Russian Ministry of Culture, up to Rub 10m.
The inaugural edition of Wemw Goes To Russia is part of the third annual Key Buyers Event: Digital.
