As Academy Awards contenders go, “The Holdovers” remains a combined odds frontrunner at Gold Derby in one category (Best Supporting Actress), second in two others and more of an obvious longshot in two more following its three Spirit Awards triumphs on Sunday. But the one thing the Alexander Payne-directed film featuring Oscar nominees Paul Giamatti and awards season juggernaut Da’Vine Joy Randolph, along with dazzling newcomer Dominic Sessa, has going for it as Oscar voting winds down is an impressive number of endorsements of support from famous folks who have moderated Q&As or made their photo presence felt at FYC events simply because they love the film.

Sunday’s Super Bowl drew 123.4 million viewers across CBS and Paramount+, according to preliminary numbers. That’s the most for any broadcast since Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and the most-watched non-news telecast of all time.
Nielsen says the total number of viewers who watched any part of Super Bowl Lviii was 202.4 million, up from 2023’s 184 million.
The game was a good one — especially late — and that is the single most-important factor for a major sporting event to drive TV ratings. And yes, Taylor Swift certainly helped too.
The Kansas City Chiefs came from behind to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 25-22. The game, which had been 10-3 in favor of the Niners at halftime, ended on a walk-off touchdown toss from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to wide receiver Mecole Hardman. Andra Day says she hasn’t performed the National Anthem for some time because she was waiting to sing the Black National Anthem first.
“I will tell you, truthfully, I have not done an anthem in a while because the thing I kept saying is that, ‘I do not want to do it again until I’m able to sing ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’” she told The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday after performing the famed hymn at Sunday’s Super Bowl.
“The first time I heard that they did this, even though it was untelevised with Alicia [Keys], I was elated. And then seeing Sheryl Lee Ralph do it — it was incredible. To be able to even stand in those women’s footsteps, or in their shoes, is truly an honor,” Day continues. “And what I loved about this song, my mom was looking at the lyrics and she says,...

Taylor Swift celebrated Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl win with several long embraces on the field at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night.
Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, beat the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night to win Super Bowl Lviii in Las Vegas.
During the presentation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Swift was seen standing next to Kelce’s mom, Donna, as he spoke with CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz.
She was seen smiling and clapping as the Chiefs’ tight end first busted into a few lines of Elvis Presley’s song “Viva Las Vegas” before then leading the crowd in the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right.”
After that rousing speech, Swift greeted Kelce with a long hug and several kisses on the field, as she did two weeks ago when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship Game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are still the Super Bowl champs.
The team beat the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl Lviii in overtime Sunday with a final score of 25-22. It was only the second time in NFL history that a Super Bowl game has gone into overtime, following Super Bowl Li in 2017, when the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons.
The 2024 Super Bowl, which aired on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Super Bowl Lviii marked the Chiefs’ fourth time in five years to reach the big game. They headed into Sunday with three franchise wins: in 1970, 2020 and last year.
The 49ers, meanwhile, have won five previous Super Bowls: in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995.
A slew of stars were in the audience to watch the game Sunday, including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Paul Rudd and LeBron James.
Commercials were selling for $7 million per half-minute spot.

With Taylor Swift in the 65,000-strong crowd at Sunday’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas, Usher couldn’t have had any illusions about who had the greater star power and the media’s attention as he hit the field for the halftime show.
So, battling some initial microphone problems, the slick R&b singer and the producing team of Dps with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and Jesse Collins leaned in hard to the showmanship that Usher always has done best, and hoped for the best.
Hope was not enough, even when the ripped Usher stripped off his shirt halfway through and H.E.R. came out to offer some solid-gold guitar licks.

Post Malone kicked off the 2024 Super Bowl festivities with an impassioned performance of “America the Beautiful” at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
The Grammy-winning rapper and singer appeared alongside model and dancer Anjel Piñero, who performed the song in American Sign Language (Asl) on behalf of the National Association of the Deaf. Standing solo with an acoustic guitar in hand, Posty delivered a tasteful version of the song, with reverb-washed vocals and a dreamy pedal steel guitar line.
Speaking about the performance with Zane Lowe earlier this week, Malone revealed that he felt “totally out of [his] depth” compared to the evening’s other performers, and said, “I’m just excited and very, very honored to be able to come out and sing these songs with talented people and all of America. Reba McEntire helped get Super Bowl Lviii between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers underway with her rendition of the national anthem at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
McEntire’s emotive, affecting rendition lit up the crowd and moved some of the football players — including the Chiefs’ defensive tackle Chris Jones — on the field to tears. As her voice reached a crescendo with “the rockets red glare” lyric, fireworks lit up the circumference of the top of the stadium and the rousing rendition was punctuated by fighter jets doing a fly-by above.

Singing through his grills, Malone displayed his vocal range as he also strummed along on his guitar. During his performance, cameras panned to Taylor Swift hugging Blake Lively in one of the Allegiant Stadium’s $2.5 million luxury suites in Las Vegas,...

Post Malone unleashed his own brand of patriotism at Sunday’s Super Bowl with a stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful.”
Wearing a brown blazer, white shirt, a bolo tie and jeans, the rapper and singer fingerpicked an acoustic guitar for a sincere rendition of the standard. His voice had lots of reverb and there was instrumentation backing his vocals, including plenty of pedal steel. Malone showed a singing strength many casual fans may not have witnessed before. Taylor Swift and Blake Lively were spotted on cameras slow dancing together to the song, which got a warm reception from the crowd.
Prior to the game, Malone discussed the performance in an interview with Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis.
“I’m very nervous,” he said. “But excited. I’m excited. It’s just fun and super epic to be able to go out there and sing a song so many beautiful...
