- TriviaCarol Hodges Onofrio, born in Berkeley, California on May 30, 1927, was a happy and talented kid growing up in the San Francisco and Berkeley bay area. The family relocated to the View Park area of Southern California area in Carol's early teens, graduating from Dorsey High School. Carol attended Chouinard Art Institute in mid-town Los Angeles, then transferred to UCLA where as an Alpha Chi Omega, graduated with a BA in art. Her professional career began as a window dresser, designer for the Los Angeles downtown Bullock's Department Store, as well, the Bullock's Wilshire Department Store. Taking a risk, Carol ventured into unknown waters of the infant new medium of television as a costume design illustrator. Angie Jones, Director and Supervisor of Wardrobe for the Burbank NBC Color Television Studios, initially hired Carol to work as a costume design illustrator in the wardrobe department. At NBC Burbank, Carol met the love of her life Lou Onofrio, a production unit manager on staff with the NBC network facility, while working on the daily network drama "One Man's Family." During this employment period, Angie Jones assigned Carol to specifically design and costume Dinah Shore, for the network's Dinah Shore Chevy Show. Carol was also responsible for the wardrobe requirements on the Dinah Shore show. Leaving NBC Burbank to raise her family, she always incorporated her passion for art and creativity in all she did. Carol is well known for her costume design, oil paintings and sculpture. Active in her daughter Melanie's school activities, she was active in PTA and as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Carol supported Los Angeles Public Library, Friends of Children and Literature by designing and creating annual FOCAL award puppets since 1980. Carol served the Assistance League of Southern California tirelessly for 20 years, designing and supervising the construction of costumes for the Children's theatre "Nine O'Clock Players." Carol passed away on August 13, 2014 at 86 years of age.
