Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis indicted Donald Trump and 18 of his allies last month for conspiring to overturn the Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results. The special grand jury Willis empaneled to investigate the scheme wanted charges brought against several other individuals, a report filed Friday revealed, including Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams conceded to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Tuesday in their rematch of their 2018 race.
Abrams called Kemp to concede, according to his campaign, and went on stage minutes later to congratulate the governor.
“I may no longer be seeking the office of governor, but I will never stop doing everything in my power to make sure the people of Georgia have a voice,” she said.
Kemp, who was a developer before serving as a state senator and secretary of state, clinched another term despite attacks from former President Donald Trump that threatened to snuff out support in his own party.
“Well, it looks like the reports of my political death have been greatly exaggerated,” Kemp told supporters after the concession.
The Associated Press had not yet called the race Tuesday night.

David Perdue, former President Donald Trump’s pick to replace Brian Kemp as governor of Georgia, got trounced in last week’s Republican primary, only receiving about 22 percent of the vote compared to Kemp’s 74 percent. Trump is now pushing the false idea that the 50-point defeat was the result of “obvious” voter fraud.

Donald Trump reportedly enjoyed watching a mob of his supporters storm the Capitol last Jan. 6. He also reportedly enjoyed that some of them were chanting for Vice President Mike Pence to be hung for failing to illegally stop the certification of the 2020 election results. He didn’t think it was such a bad idea, either, according to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Meadows told colleagues on Jan. 6 that Trump had said, as the Times puts it, “something to the effect of, maybe Mr.

Jimmy Kimmel taped the monologue Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live” before news broke of the horrific mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas in which 19 children were murdered — so as a result his monologue dealt with less heavy issues instead.
For instance, the Republican gubernatorial primary in Georgia, which turned into a proxy battle between Donald Trump and his former Vice President Mike Pence. As well as general Trump (and Republican) corruption. Watch the whole monologue above, or read on for a recap.
Kimmel talked about how Trump bilked the U.S. government out of millions of dollars because he billed them his own secret service detail — “It’s funny to think Donald Trump’s only profitable business venture was being President of the United States,” Kimmel joked.

David Perdue is, once again, a loser.
A year after coughing up his Senate seat to Democrat Jon Ossof, the 72-year-old business executive-turned-politician has been trounced in the Republican primary for governor of Georgia. Perdue entered the race backed with the blessing of Donald Trump, who has long been pining to replace incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp, whom the former president believes didn’t work hard enough to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Kemp beat Perdue Tuesday on a race that was called shortly after the polls closed.

The 2020 election didn’t go so well for Donald Trump — especially in Georgia. The once reliably red state swung blue for the first time since Bush (the first one) was in office. A few months later, it elected two Democratic senators, giving the party control of the chamber. Trump is now throwing his weight behind Herschel Walker in the Republican Senate primary and David Perdue in the gubernatorial primary in an effort to turn the state Maga this November. It hasn’t been going great.

Updated: President Donald Trump slammed the news media once again as he rallied supporters at a demonstration outside the White House today, speaking just an hour before Congress is scheduled to begin a showdown over the certification of the 2020 presidential election.
“The media is the biggest problem we have,” Trump said in the opening moments of his address to a crowd of tens of thousands in the National Mall at the “Save America” rally. He once again falsely accused “the media” of helping to “rig” the election results in favor of his Democratic challenger, President-elect Joe Biden.
“We will never give up. We will never concede,” Trump said. The rally crowd at times chanted “USA! USA! USA!” After Trump used the vulgarity, the chant shifted to “Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit!”

Tyler Perry took to social media on Tuesday to announce he was forced to vote in person for the U.S. Senate runoff election in Georgia after his absentee ballot never showed up in the mail. The New York Times confirms Perry “hopped a flight from Wyoming to Georgia late Monday to vote in person” before polls opened January 5. The Georgia runoff election pits Democrats Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff against Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. The outcome of the runoff election will determine the control of the U.S. Senate.
“All right, my absentee ballot never came, so I just left voting in person, so y’all get out and vote, get out and vote, get out and vote,” Perry said in a video shared with his 6.4 million Twitter followers. The filmmaker appeared in a car outside an unidentified polling place.

Tyler Perry flew back to Georgia after his absentee ballot failed to arrive in the mail, he tweeted on Monday.
The director, writer, producer and actor sent out a tweet on Monday asking if others also had problems receiving their absentee ballots for Georgia’s runoff Senate vote. He said he requested it in early December and it was supposedly delivered, though he did not receive it in the mail.
Voting rights activist Stacey Abrams, who is often credited for helping Democrats win Georgia in the 2020 election, responded to let Perry know that he could still vote in person if he hoped to have his vote counted. “Vote in person on Election Day!” she wrote. “Just tell the person at the check-in table that you wish to cancel your ballot & vote in person.”

Georgia’s tense Senate runoff will finally reach its conclusion on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and CNN will run dedicated coverage all day Tuesday, both on its cable channel and companion streaming apps.
Republican incumbents David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler are up against Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in a tight race that will decide the fate — and political leaning — of the Senate.
We should note it is possible that neither set of candidates will have enough of a lead by the end of the night to report a projected victory. Given the fact that they needed a runoff in the first place, and that Biden defeated Trump by less than 12,000 votes there, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if it’s too close to call at the end of the night.

With the fate of his early years of his upcoming presidency hanging on snaring a majority in the Senate out of tomorrow’s duel runoffs in Georgia, Joe Biden ripped Donald Trump today at a rally in Atlanta.
“This administration has gotten off to a God-awful start,” the president-elect passionately told a somewhat socially distanced crowd in the Peach State metropolis of the response to the lethal coronavirus pandemic and the vaccine rollout. “The president spends more time whining and complaining than doing something about the problem,” Biden added as the former Celebrity Apprentice host tried to strongarm Georgia officials to award the state to him over the ex-vp.
The stronger-than-usual language from Biden was not in his prepared remarks.

That Dawn Porter’s “John Lewis: Good Trouble” is a documentary perfectly timed for the social and political climate of 2020 might seem like happy coincidence. Its subject is the late voting rights and racial justice leader and congressman from Georgia, a state that helped decide the presidential election and whose senate runoff races on Jan. 5 will single-handedly determine the trajectory of our democracy.
But if you ask Holly Gordon, chief impact officer of Participant, one of the film’s distributors, Porter’s drive to tell this story right now was no coincidence.
“The ethos inside the company is that we trust our artists to show us the way. I can’t believe we’re still surprised, but we’re constantly surprised how we end up with a slate of films that started production two, three, four years ago but hit at zeitgeist moments,” Gordon told IndieWire. “It feels like provenance,...

Georgia, through a combination of generous tax breaks and an impressive infrastructure, has spent the past 12 years transforming itself into the Hollywood of the South.
The numbers tell the remarkable story of how the state has become a vital outpost for movies and television. The entertainment industry has grown to a $9.5 billion business in Georgia, with 34 major film productions and 33 indies shot in the state in the 2017-18 fiscal year, up from three features and eight indies in fiscal year 2008-09, when the tax incentives for productions were introduced. Now after Joe Biden collected the state’s 16 electoral votes, besting Donald Trump by 12,670 votes and becoming the first Democratic presidential nominee to win Georgia since 1992, the question is, how has the surging entertainment business played a role in the state going blue?

He also said he would travel to Georgia on the day of the state’s two Senate runoff elections.

Rare is the politician who will say “I don’t know” about something and mean it, including her own future. That is one reason why I despise the question, “Are you running?” It generally wastes the time of journalists everywhere; candidates rarely say “yes,” even if they secretly intend to launch a campaign later on, with the proper pomp and circumstance.
