Creators used to avoid talking about burnout. Everyone knew making content a career could have negative effects on their mental health, but it was almost a taboo to talk about how hard our industry is—until, in 2018 and 2019, creators like Elle Mills, Lilly Singh, and Jacksepticeye started sharing their experiences. Now, both creators and the platforms on which they make their livings talk regularly about burnout—and how to mitigate it.
Those talks seem to be paying off, because according to a new study from affiliate marketing platforms Awin and ShareASale, the number of creators suffering from burnout, while still high, has decreased from 2022.
In a survey conducted with creators in the U.S., U.K., and Germany, 73% of respondents said they suffer from burnout at least some of the time—a 14% drop from 87% in 2022.

"Don't ever run away again!" Viva Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for a wacky new animated movie called Hitpig!, produced by Aniventure. This weird British-Canadian animated comedy will be hitting US theaters in November this fall. While it sounds similar to Hit-Monkey, it's not really the same, because this one isn't about a hitman pig (unfortunately - would've been cool). In a futuristic cyberpunk world, Hitpig, a bounty hunter pig, sets out to capture an elephant named Pickles, but ends up finding themselves on a criss-crossing world adventure. Based on Berkeley Breathed's 2008 children's book "Pete & Pickles". Starring the voices of Jason Sudeikis as Hitpig, Lilly Singh, Rainn Wilson, Anitta, RuPaul, Hannah Gadsby, and Charlie Adler. How is this even a real concept for a movie? Clearly it's about setting animals free from circuses and zoos, but involving a bounty hunter pig who realizes money isn't worth it? Okay,...

If you thought a premiere for a documentary about child stardom was going to start on time, you probably aren’t too familiar with the pressures of early fame. Despite a minor 30-minute delay, Demi Lovato’s latest Hulu doc “Child Star” premiered Thursday night in Hollywood, proving to be her most intimate and cinematic self-examination yet.
Following in the footsteps of “Stay Strong,” “Simply Complicated” and “Dancing With the Devil,” Lovato enlisted help from her fellow famous former child stars for her co-directorial debut (along with filmmaker Nicola Marsh) — and she got legitimate A-list names for it: Raven-Symoné, Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, Kenan Thompson, Alyson Stoner and JoJo Siwa.
The doc is all about the shared struggles that child stars experience, from Hollywood history-makers such as Shirley Temple and Jackie Coogan to modern social media influencers like Ryan. While their symptoms manifested in different ways, Lovato clearly felt connected...

Hosted by Travis Kelce, each game will welcome an adult contestant who will rely on a classroom full of celebrities from comedy, screen, and sports to help them answer 11 questions on a range of subjects, pulled from elementary curriculum, in an effort to win a $100,000 prize. Rather than compete against the stars, contestants enlist their help and, in some cases, can even ‘cheat’ off of them.

Amazon is stacking up its unscripted orders.
The streaming service has ordered two new nonscripted series; it has ordered a U.S. version of British format Buy It Now hosted by Curb Your Enthusiasm star Jb Smoove and Nick Cannon is hosting holiday event Wish List Games.
Elsewhere, it has added names to Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, hosted by Travis Kelce.
This comes after the streamer ordered Pop Culture Jeopardy!, a spinoff of the iconic gameshow.
Amazon has largely struggled in the unscripted world and has had few breakouts so is evidently trying to bolster its slate.
Buy It Now comes from The Traitors producer Studio Lambert and is based on a Channel 4 daytime format that seasoned and budding entrepreneurs try to win a place in the Buy It Now store featured on both Amazon.com and within the Prime app.

Doin’ It revolves around surely the most literal interpretation imaginable of the old saying “those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.” Lilly Singh stars as Maya, who stumbles almost by accident into a job teaching sex ed, despite still being a virgin. As she schools her kids on everything from consent to gender identity to orgasms, Maya sets out to unlearn the shame that she herself internalized at that age — and maybe even to get laid for the first time.
Good intentions practically drip off the premise, which makes a convincing case for dismantling the fear and ignorance around adolescent sex ed. And Doin’ It puts its money where its mouth is — its jokes eschew pearl-clutching or coyness in favor of in-your-face crassness. But the comedy never quite settles into a comfortable rhythm, and eventually backs itself into a corner so far away from any recognizable reality that...

Some film festivals take themselves entirely too seriously. Not South by Southwest, the Austin-based multidisciplinary mega-event where amped-up crowds welcome comedies with open arms — the raunchier the better. This year, one logline stood out as especially promising: “A 30-year-old Indian American virgin gets a job teaching high school Sex Ed.” Alas, “Doin’ It” doesn’t cut it (it’s basically 2014 Haley Joel Osment comedy “Sex Ed” with a cultural spin). The concept is funny, but the execution feels forced, in part because the substitute in question (played by Lilly Singh) is supposed to be following an abstinence-based curriculum. In theory, her deep-seated celibacy should make her perfect for the job.
The movie aims to combat the shame around all aspects of human sexuality, which seems like an admirable but inevitably controversial goal. But “Doin’ It” goes too far straight out of the gate, opening with an embarrassment no teenager can...

Sex is a lot like filmmaking. You dive in when you’re ready, trust your companions, and learn from experience. Few people start out as experts, but there’s beauty in being allowed to try and fail in different environments over the years.
In her first feature film lead, comedian and former late night host Lilly Singh plays Maya, a computer engineer who takes a part-time job teaching sex education. After an incident in her teens led to her mother moving them back to India, Maya not only repressed her sexuality but grew to actively fear it — and now she’s teaching teens about sex despite having never done it herself. Singh, Neel Patel, and director Sara Zandieh co-wrote the film, which premiered at SXSW on March 12.
Sonia Dhillon Tully plays Maya’s hyperconservative single mother Veena, a role that has unfortunately been tread and retread in the South Asian-American film ouevre.

Hannah Einbinder was moved to tears. Nick Thune was moved to sing. John Leguizamo shared hard truths. Samantha Bee rallied the crowd on behalf of womens rights. And everyone who took part in Variety’s Power of Comedy Awards on Friday made fun of the awards themselves, now in their second year at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
“Nothing is more show business-y than an award that says ‘We love that you’re here’ two years after network executives have said ‘We need you to be gone,’ ” Bee told the packed house at the famed Acl Theater, a nod to the demise in 2022 of her TBS series “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
Bee, who was honored by presenter Brooke Shields with the Comedy Innovator award for being one of very few women to host a late-night comedy series, noted that the event coincided with International Woman’s Day.

The 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival — which runs March 8–16 in Austin, Texas — has cooked up an eclectic spread of studio crowd-pleasers, enterprising TV premieres, and indie gems aiming to break through. Here is some of the most promising fare.
Babes
The canon of Ilana Glazer-led indies about childbearing expands. Following 2021’s “False Positive,” Glazer plays pregnant once again in “Babes,” this time from a film script she wrote with Josh Rabinowitz in Pamela Adlon’s feature directorial debut. The Neon comedy follows Eden (Glazer), who gets pregnant from a one-night stand and seeks help from Dawn (Michelle Buteau), a married mother of two. In other words, “Babes” lets the “Broad City” star do what she does best: lean heavily on the support of a best buddy.
