Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on his breakout horror film Terrifier, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2, which was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, Terrifier 3 – which is set to receive a theatrical release on October 11th – has a substantially higher budget. A “couple million” is going into this one, and some of that money has gone toward a Hollywood FX team that Leone brought in to help him create the nauseating effects. Leone recently took to social media to heap some praise on that FX team, headed up by Christien Tinsley, for the insanely horrific, stomach-turning, mind-blowing work they did on the film.
Leone wrote, “That’s a wrap on our incredible makeup fx team @tinsleymua It was scary relinquishing the...

The makeup effects work on this Halloween season’s Terrifier 3 is complete, director Damien Leone has announced in a social media post this week that’s full of praise for the contributions from Christien Tinsley and his team at Tinsley Studio. The award-winning makeup effects studio is handling all the insane gore in the upcoming slasher sequel, and Leone promises that the bar for Terrifier violence is going to be raised even higher come October 11, 2024.
How is that even possible, you ask?! Leone writes on Instagram, “That’s a wrap on our incredible makeup FX team (@tinsleymua). It was scary relinquishing the makeup FX on Terrifier 3 to another team since me and @pjfalcone did mainly all of the FX work on part 1 & 2. But this time around, the scope of the film was just too big and the requirements were too great so it was time to bring in...

Art the Clown is making his return to theaters nationwide with Terrifier 3 on October 11, 2024, and Bloody Disgusting can confirm that a horror legend has joined the slasher sequel.
Makeup effects master Tom Savini will be making an appearance in director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, which Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting are bringing to the big screen!
Tom Savini’s work has long been a huge source of inspiration for Leone, whose Terrifier movies are of course loaded with the kind of practical effects-driven brutality that Savini helped pioneer. From the very first arrival of Jason Voorhees on screen in the original Friday the 13th to the splatter effects in horror classics including Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, Savini is one of the all-time great masters in the world of special makeup effects, elevating the art of horror movie gore and paving the way for all...

A good movie monster never stays down for very long, and Art the Clown is set to return for another blood-soaked killing spree a little earlier than expected.
Despite being "killed" in extremely gruesome fashion at the end of both previous movies, the seemingly immortal murderer will dust himself off and get back to doing what he does best in Damien Leone's Terrifier 3, and we have a new look at the sadistic mime in a first official promo image.
In addition, Deadline has announced that the horror threequel has moved its release date forward by two weeks, and will now arrive in theaters on October 11.
“We’re so excited to bring the next Terrifier to theaters this fall just in time for the Halloween season,” said franchise producer Phil Falcone. “Terrifier 3 will deliver everything the fans expect and more with Art the Clown taking things to the next level.

After delivering two of the most gleefully violent slasher films of the modern age, Damein Leone is in an intense competition with himself. The writer/director's "Terrifier" debuted in 2016, introducing David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown, a murderous, seemingly invincible psychopath who went on a blood-soaked Halloween rampage so brutal that it put some of the greatest slasher killers in cinema history to shame. Leone then somehow managed to top that with 2022's bigger, weirder, and bloodier, "Terrifier 2." The sequel was so savage that it prompted horror specialist Mike Flannagan to come up with a whole new genre to describe it: the "MegaSlasher."
But "Terrifier 2" did more than celebrate unabashed ultra-violence. It made a decent amount of money, raking in $15.7 million, in fact, which isn't bad for a film that was made on a budget of $250,000. Naturally, a sequel was quickly greenlit, which presented a tantalizing prospect...

Popcorn buckets are all the rage right now with several sparking controversy, including this gem for Dune: Part Two. But what about horror?
Horror fans hope to see a Terrifier popcorn bucket available in theaters nationwide when Terrifier 3 releases this fall. Over the weekend, a hardcore fan launched a petition to raise awareness for a potential Terrifier 3 popcorn bucket. I immediately fantasized about eating pink popcorn out of Art the Clown’s head.

Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on the first Terrifier movie, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2 – which was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, Terrifier 3 has a substantially higher budget. A “couple million” is going into this one. So Leone has revealed that he’s hiring a Hollywood FX team to work on this one – and during an interview with Deadline, he also revealed that Chris Jericho will be reprising the role he played, briefly, in Terrifier 2.

Creator/director of the "Terrifier" series, Damien Leone originally developed Art the Clown as one of many ghoulish antagonists for the short films "The 9th Circle" (2008) and "Terrifier" (2011). The blood-thirsty antagonist, who was inspired by iconic horror killers, then took center stage in 2013's "All Hallows' Eve," wherein two kids and their babysitter discover an unmarked VHS tape that showcased the homicidal clown's gruesome deeds. But it wasn't until 2016 that David Howard Thornton took over the role from the original Art actor, Mike Gianelli, for the first official "Terrifier" movie.
In the film, Art wreaks havoc on Halloween night as he hunts down Tara Heyes (Jenna Kanell) and her sister Victoria (Samantha Scaffidi). Unfortunately, as /Film's Chris Evangelista put it in his "Terrifier 2" review, the first official installment in the "Terrifier" canon was "little more than a plotless, storyless, valueless excuse to showcase gore and not much else." A lot of filmmakers have attempted to create a new horror icon for the next generation, and most have failed rather miserably. "Terrifier" director and special effects artist Damien Leone has managed to usher in a fresh wave of blood and terror with his creation, Art the Clown. The enormously successful sequel, "Terrifier 2," was designed and crafted from the ground up with a ragtag FX team, where most of the gloriously gory set pieces were done almost exclusively by Leone and producer Phil Falcone. To achieve the amount of viscera needed to send even the most hardcore gorehounds heading for the aisle, there were some very special ingredients involved to ensure the maximum amount of gross-out potential.
Throughout horror history, there have been countless recipes for blood that have been used, including but not limited to Hershey's Chocolate Syrup flowing down the drain in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and...

Terrifier mastermind Damien Leone has pulled off the very rare feat of building a successful indie horror franchise from scratch.
The Philadelphia native created the franchise’s star, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), in a 2008 short called The 9th Circle, and while he only appeared briefly, Leone received enough feedback on the disturbing character design to double down on the clown. Within a few years, he made a Terrifier (2011) short film as a proof of concept for a proper feature film, and his DIY attitude would only intensify when he was told all over town that clowns don’t sell.
Leone first cut his teeth as a special effects makeup artist, and through his work on Phil Falcone’s indie Joe’s War, he became fast friends with the producer-director who later decided to bankroll a $35,000 Terrifier feature. The 2016 slasher film would go on to make roughly twelve times its budget,...

Exclusive: Signature Entertainment has pre-bought UK & Irish rights to Damien Leone’s horror sequel Terrifier 3 from The Coven, having released the first two movies in the franchise.
David Howard Thornton and Lauren Lavera are set to reprise their roles as Art the Clown and Sienna, respectively, in the Christmas-themed horror movie which will hit North American theaters on October 25, 2024.
A statement this week from Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting revealed that villanous Art the Clown will “unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.” Filming is expected to get underway in January, 2024.
The threequel is produced by Phil Falcone (Terrifier franchise) and is directed and written by Damien Leone (Terrifier franchise). As we revealed earlier this year, the film is understood to be getting a budget in the low-mid seven figure range, a significant increase on that of the sequel.

While it was something of a cult hit, it was more noteworthy for set the stage for Terrifier 2, which was one of the biggest horror success stories of 2022. The sequel was produced for just $250,000, and went on to gross an astounding $10 million after opening in 770 theaters Oct. 6, helping a resurgence in horror at the box office.
Dread, the speciality horror label for Los Angeles-based distribution and financing company Epic Pictures, will put the first Terrifier into theaters along with Iconic Events, which worked on the rollout for Terrifier 2.

The Academy Award for Best Makeup (which added Hairstyling in 1993) has only been around, in earnest, since 1981. That year, macabre special effects genius Rick Baker won for transforming David Naughton into a grotesquely hirsute lycanthrope for “American Werewolf in London.” In that same decade, Chris Walas and Stephan Dupuis won for turning Jeff Goldblum into the sticky, disgusting Brundlefly for David Cronenberg’s “The Fly.”
Save for a handful of gruesome gothics like “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” — both prioritizing practical effects over digital — winners in this category can be awards bait (“Bombshell”), fantasy franchise entries, or the rare original auteur vision (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”). And there have been major short shrifts, such as John Carpenter’s “The Thing” not landing a nomination in 1982 for its human-alien chimeras courtesy of Rob Bottin.
In short, the Academy tends to shy away from hardcore genre movies that test audience’s limits,...
