The Way We Speak, Ian's first feature-length film as writer-director, is a modern cautionary tale starring 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul). Ian also created the satirical web series White Action News and wrote and directed three award-winning short films: Pinwheel Horizon, The Devil Needs a Fix, and From the Sky.
Pinwheel Horizon had its world premiere at the 2023 Omaha Film Festival- a MovieMaker magazine Top 50 festival. Set on a barren planet, Pinwheel Horizon is a minimalist sci-fi/fantasy following three elite warriors as they approach their final confrontation- and a film where "story wins out," says Film Threat. Pinwheel Horizon won the Award of Excellence at the Accolade Global Film Competition for Directing, Lead Actress, Ensemble Cast, and Editing.
The Devil Needs a Fix had its world premiere at the Oscar-qualifying 2017 Seattle International Film Festival; a film American Cinematheque's Thomas Ethan Harris calls "deliciously intriguing...a sophisticated dark comedy with an edge." The Devil Needs a Fix played festivals including HollyShorts and was named one of Film Shortage's favorite fantasy short films of 2018.
The Arabic-language narrative thriller From the Sky tells the story of a nomadic father and son struggling to cope with U.S. Predator drones patrolling their region of the Middle East. Cinephilia & Beyond describes From the Sky as "brilliant...an amazing and pioneering short film." The film won the International Humanitarian Award grand prize at the Oscar qualifying 2014 Rhode Island International Film Festival, aired on PBS, and featured in MovieMaker magazine.
