On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

When creating a series, one of the writers' main goals is to create characters that make you feel something. And it doesn’t matter whether those are feelings of love or hate, or confusion – everything counts. When a character touches your heartstrings it means the mission is complete.
Sometimes we grow fond of particular characters, and they don’t even need to be titular ones for that. For example, it’s obvious that the most popular and beloved character of ABC’s The Good Doctor will be Shaun Murphy, the autistic but brilliant surgeon at the center of the series. But there are also several side characters who are just as important as the titular character.
Recently, season 7 of the show premiered, and episode 5 called Who At Peace came bearing bad news to the show’s fans. The thing is, one of the most beloved characters, Dr Asher Wolke, ended up tragically dead.

CBS’ medical drama The Good Doctor with the cast led by Freddie Highmore is getting closer to the end of its television run as the show’s final episode is set to be released on May 7.
Having the seventh season as its last one, the series could’ve drawn so many great opportunities out of the final episodes to dot the I's and cross the T’s — and it got really close to sending a very important message out to the public, but crashed it all in the nick of time.
The Good Doctor’s final season still features Dr. Asher Wolke, portrayed by Noah Galvin, who made his first appearance back in season 5. Asher happens to be the only gay among the main characters of the show and by the end of the last season is getting prepared for the wedding with his boyfriend Jerome Martel who also works in the hospital.

At just 10 episodes, The Good Doctor‘s final season is also its shortest. The longest season (Season 6) had 22 episodes, and the others had between 18-20. The Good Doctor Season 7 still has four more episodes to go, but will a new one be airing on Tuesday, April 23? The quick answer is no. The Good Doctor is currently on a two-week break. The last new episode aired on Tuesday, April 9 and showed the aftermath of the death of Dr. Asher Wolke (Noah Galvin) the episode prior. The episode saw Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) put in charge of a major traumatic event at the hospital because, as the overworked and exhausted Dr. Audrey Lim (Christina Chang) said, he wouldn’t let emotions get in the way of handling things. Lea (Paige Spara) warned, however, that grief can be delayed for people with autism like Shaun. It was likely only a matter of...

We knew it was coming, but it didn’t make it any less difficult.
The Good Doctor Season 7, Episode 6, found the St. Bonaventure staff reacting to and processing Dr. Asher Wolke’s (Noah Galvin) death.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Asher was brutally killed off in an antisemitic, anti-lgbtq+ attack while confronting a group of people destroying a synagogue.
The cliffhanger left Asher out cold, and Tuesday’s new episode picked up with the beloved character’s funeral.
In one of the series’ most heartbreaking moments, Asher’s friend Jordan (Bria Samone Henderson) gave the eulogy and opened up about how they became friends despite coming from very different worlds.
“I’m a devout Christian from Oakland, and he was an orthodox Jew-turned-atheist from Brooklyn,” she began.
Asher’s closest friend delivered a heartbreaking eulogy

The Good Doctor delivered one of the most shocking moments in its history on Tuesday night when it killed off a beloved character.
Noah Galvin’s Dr. Asher Wolke was killed off on The Good Doctor Season 7, Episode 5, in an antisemitic attack.
The shocking scenes played out after the doctor helped at a patient’s wedding and found individuals vandalizing a synagogue.
Asher tried to diffuse the situation by telling the group to leave, and just when it seemed like they were gone, they returned to attack the doctor and left him for dead.
The decision to write out such a huge character at the midway point of the final season is certainly a choice.
At the time of the heinous attack, Asher’s boyfriend, Jerome (Giacomo Baessato), was awaiting his return and planned to propose to him.
The shocking episode ended with a disclaimer

Noah Galvin‘s Dr. Asher Wolke was killed off in the fifth episode, titled “Who At Peace,” in a violent antisemitic attack. After helping at a patient’s wedding ceremony, Asher drove the rabbi back to his synagogue, where they came upon a couple of thugs vandalizing the temple. Asher confronted the vandals, which led to the fatal attack. “What do you care?” one of the assailants asked, while the other responded, “He’s a Jew too.” “I am a Jew. A gay one, in fact, and I’m calling the cops,” Asher replied. The thugs dispersed, and it looked like the situation was resolved, but they soon returned and struck Asher in the head,...

The long-running ABC medical drama just rounded out the first half of its seventh season on the network. The series follows Freddie Highmore's Shaun Murphy, an autistic medical virtuoso working within San Jose's St. Bonaventure Hospital.
Season 7 has had plenty of drama for fans to latch onto so far, including Shaun's adjustment to being a father. However, it saved the biggest narrative beat for the halfway point of its farewell season.

Milo Ventimiglia was just 19 years old and starting out in Hollywood when he was cast as a gay teen in the 1996 short, “Must Be the Music.” You’d think his team would have advised him not to play queer, but Ventimiglia says he received nothing but support to sign on.
“I played a gay teenager who is going out with his friends, meets a guy but his buddy’s best friend is already kind of sweet on that guy,” Ventimiglia remembered. “Then he ends up giving them a ride home and he gets the guys number. It was a very sweet story.”
The short was produced by Gus Van Sant.
“That’s the great thing about being an actor,” the “This Is Us” star said at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday. “You play a lot of different roles. You represent a lot of roles. You represent a lot of stories.

Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. For films, there’s a $30 million budget cap. For TV, I’m honestly not sure what the benchmark is because Last of Us was notoriously an expensive show to shoot, costing at least $100 million.
Indeed, The Last of Us won some key awards on the TV side, winning Best Supporting Performance (for Nick Offerman) and Best Breakthrough Performance (for Keivonn Montreal Woodard). Over on the film side, American Fiction and...

The best in independent film and television were honored at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards!
Plenty of A-List stars were in attendance at the event on Sunday afternoon (February 25) at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Calif.
Movies are only eligible for a Spirit Award if they have a budget of less than $30 million, so there are some awards favorites like Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Killers of the Flower Moon that are not nominated.
American Fiction, May December, and Past Lives lead the pack this year with five nominations each.
Make sure to check out our post with photos of Every celeb who attended the event! Also check out our best dressed list.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph joked about the struggles of filming The Holdovers, including a lack of “heated seats during a Boston winter,” and other resources but also praised independent filmmaking as “the beating heart of this industry” while accepting the Film Independent Spirit Award for best supporting performance on Sunday.
“I often joke that making Holdovers felt like doing a student film,” she said. “Whatever resources we lacked, such as heated seats during a Boston winter, we made up for and care and determination every day. I was astonished by the level of innovation and creativity that our cast and crew exhibited in order to turn what limited resources we had into an incredible piece of art, all of which is a beautiful testament of what can happen when a small group of passionate people are given a chance to come together and tell the story.”
