MGM+’s “Domina” actress Joelle goes by one name like Madonna and Cher. She steps back in time this season and into a Roman world, post Julius Caesar as Tiberius’ wife Vipsania.
In the series, Joelle worked with the hair and makeup team to create a look fitting for the show’s themes, death, manipulation and a battle for control over the city.
Through her looks, a story was being reflected.
Speaking with Variety, Joelle, who has appeared in “Dune” and “The School for Good and Evil” says, “In the beginning, Vipsania is at her most innocent, she’s young and in love and hair department head Claudia Catini chose a playful golden red wig for the first three episodes.” Together they collaborated on her evolving look and most importantly how to incorporate the actor’s natural look (the actor was diagnosed with alopecia universalis at the age of 8 and...

"I think you're guilty. And sooner or later, I always catch the guilty ones." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Spanish thriller titled A Man of Action, also known as Un Hombre de Acción in Spanish. The film is loosely inspired by the life of Lucio Urtubia, that explores the figure of the Spanish who pulled off a legendary counterfeiting operation in Paris that landed him in the crosshairs of America's biggest bank. Another description for this adds "an anarchist targets one of the world's biggest banks with an ingenious counterfeiting operation." From his humble beginnings as a bricklayer turned bank robber, to taking the lead in one of the most important economic shenanigans of the last century – but Lucio will have to choose between the anarchist cause and protecting his own. Starring Juan José Ballesta as Lucio, Luis Callejo, Liah O'Prey, Miki Esparbé, Alexandre Blazy, Ben Temple,...

“Jazz is Paris and Paris is jazz,” spoke-sang Malcolm McLaren a quarter-century ago, though the statement is valid as ever today: Since the end of World War I, when a number of African American soldiers settled in Paris — and still others left their music behind — the city has become a kind of world capital for jazz, with clubs still packing in audiences around town. “The Eddy” is named for one such dive, located in a neighborhood far from the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and other historic sites where Audrey Hepburn twirled in “Funny Face.”
The new eight-part Netflix series, reverse-engineered from a raft of stellar jazz songs by “Jagged Little Pill” producer Glen Ballard, aims to show audiences a different side of Paris from the touristy one mass-produced on picture postcards. It’s the part of the city where North African immigrants and descendants of France’s fraught...

Last week, I reviewed Aut?mata, which was a post-apocalyptic science fiction film that presented nothing new in terms of ideas or themes. It treaded on familiar territory and made it a bore to watch. Science fiction films need to reflect human nature in an interesting way to be successful, otherwise they become very easy to tune out. In comes Young Ones, a film that uses a near future of a massive water shortage to explore man's pride, greed, and struggle for survival. The film is not wholly successful in its ambitions, shifting away from its themes midway through into a more traditional revenge film, but with the help of a quartet of terrific performances, the film is never something Aut?mata was: boring. A rather subdued Michael Shannon plays Ernest Holm, the patriarch of a family who is clinging onto a 20-acre farm, despite a drought that has dried...
