Metal favorites Avenged Sevenfold are back with a new song, “Nobody,” which will appear on the band’s first album in nearly seven years, Life Is But a Dream, set to arrive June 2 via Warner Records.
The epic six-minute “Nobody” is described as the band’s first official music release since 2016. The track arrives with a stop-motion music video directed by Chris Hopewell that offers up a brutal post-apocalyptic parable with a heavy existential twist at the end.

Run the Jewels have released a new music video for “Walking in the Snow,” directed by Chris Hopewell; it’s the third music video the rap duo has released in support of RTJ4.
The video turns Killer Mike and El-p into stop-motion action figures leading a rebellion against an authoritarian regime headed by an evil ice king. “Walking in the Snow” follows videos for RJT4 tracks “Ooh La La” and “Out of Sight,” the latter of which featured 2 Chainz. As Yusuf/Cat Stevens prepares to drop the rerecorded Tea for the Tillerman² in honor of the album’s 50th anniversary, the singer-songwriter shared a stop-motion video for “Father and Son.”
The new version of the beloved track features Yusuf duetting with his younger self — he sings the role of the father, while the son’s parts were culled from his 1970 performance at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. “From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen,” he sings. “Now there’s a way and I know that I have to go away.

Last month, Yusuf/Cat Stevens released a charming stop-motion video for “Where Do the Children Play?” off his upcoming Tea for the Tillerman². Now, you can watch three videos explaining how it was made.
The clip was directed by Chris Hopewell — who previously worked on Radiohead’s “Burn the Witch” — and 90% of the material used derived from recycled matter. “The track itself has a very strong environmental message so we decided very early on that the video itself should have as low an environmental impact as possible,” Blackwell said in a statement.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens has re-recorded his landmark 1970 LP Tea For the Tillerman in honor of its 50th anniversary. It comes out on September 18th, but he’s just released a video for his new take on “Where Do the Children Play?”
The video, which uses stop-motion animations, shows two children living in a world wrecked by pollution and corporate greed. “The song has a strong environmental message, so we wanted to make a video that mirrored that,” director Chris Hopewell says in a statement. “We decided to make the props...

Over the weekend, Radiohead made waves in the rock world by suddenly erasing their entire Internet presence. Their Facebook page went blank. So did Thom Yorke’s Twitter feed. Their website gradually faded to white. What did it all mean? The answer was revealed Tuesday, when the band released an excellent stop-motion video for their new single, “Burn The Witch.” At a time when artistic music videos are getting attention thanks to Beyonce’s “Lemonade,” Radiohead picked the right time to unveil a video that takes a page from horror movie history. Directed by Chris Hopewell, the animated video is a toy-like.

After doing a masterful job of getting the entire internet’s attention by simply deleting their entire social media presence, Radiohead dropped an honest-to-goodness new single and music video this morning. Chris Hopewell, who previously directed “There There” for the band, is behind this stop-motion clip (which bears traces of what appear to be 16mm scratches). In keeping with the song name “Burn the Witch,” the video draws on imagery from The Wicker Man and other manifestations of the “old, weird Britain.”...

It’s finally here. Radiohead have debuted the music video for “Burn the Witch,” the first single off their forthcoming LP9. While we mostly stick to film-related updates here, considering it’s a foray into the world of stop-motion, it makes the perfect excuse to share it today.
Seemingly inspired by The Wicker Man as it depicts a witch hunt in a small community, it’s directed by Chris Hopewell (who also helmed their video for “There There,” seen below) and produced by Jacknife. Check out the music video below, along with full credits and a cover, as we await more details on the upcoming album.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything
Directed by Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell
Written by Crispian Mills
UK, 2012
A Fantastic Fear of Everything is a film that Wes Anderson would make if he didn’t give a flying sausage about storytelling. It has many of his auteur signatures (a twee pop-art sensibility, creative and meticulous set design, character idiosyncrasies, assured and muted-mustard cinematography, an affected offbeat soundtrack, love for all things quaint or vintage), but there’s no prevailing context or structure to uphold these aesthetic qualities. Instead, everything about A Fantastic Fear of Everything, all of its quirks and eccentricities, exist in a vacuum that suspends the film in a permanent condition of unfeeling.
The film stars Simon Pegg as Jack, a neurotic and intrapersonal-communicating East London writer hoping to sell his Decades of Death, a book about serial killers. His agent, Clair (Clare Higgins), sets him up with a potential Hollywood buyer,...

More than a year and a half after Simon Pegg debuted the first trailer for A Fantastic Fear of Everything on his Twitter page, we have the second trailer for this upcoming comedy. The actor portrays a children's author who becomes paranoid while researching serial killers for his new novel, which turns his life upside down while a Hollywood executive expresses interest in his story. Writer-director Crispian Mills' comedy debuts on iTunes January 7, before its theatrical debut February 7.
Jack (Simon Pegg) is a children's author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by an irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a lifeline by his long-suffering agent, and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in Jack's script, what should be his "big break" rapidly turns into his "big breakdown...

Sure he has had big roles in films like Star Trek but his lovable loser persona is the one that he is most associated with and that is front and center in his latest film (as both the star and Executive Producer) of A Fantastic Fear of Everything.
Based on the novella Paranoia In The Launderette by Bruce Robinson (writer and director of Withnail and I), film follows a former children’s author named Jack (Simon Pegg) that has recently also become a crime novelist. During the FanExpo in Toronto last weekend, the 2012 Toronto After Dark Film Festival announced the first 10 titles of the festival this October and it looks like an exciting lineup.
The festival is moving back from Toronto Underground cinema into the newly restored Bloor Hot Docs for its 7th year (where it resided for its first five years) running from October 18th to 26th, 2012. As usual the first batch of films is an eclectic mix of horror, sci-fi, action and the bizarre. So if you have been a fan of the previous year's lineup then it shouldn't disappoint.
[Rec]³: Genesis
First up is the Canadian Premiere for the third film in the Spanish [Rec] series working as a parallel sequel to the first two films. Paco Plaza returns as the director but the co-director Jaume Balagueró of the first two films will be directing the 4th [Rec] installment next year instead. This time...

I’ve been lucky enough to attend the Fantasia film Festival since the very first year and make no mistake about it, Fantasia has always been a highlight of every summer since. This year is no exception. With another impressive and diverse line-up, any movie crazed die hard genre fans such as myself are left with no choice but to spend hours studying both the program and schedule to fit in as many films as you possibly can. So I’ve decided to put together this list of must see films for anyone who is either new to the festival or simply doesn’t have as much time to properly browse through the program.

Doomsday Book
In recent years we’ve come to expect at least one horror anthology added to the incredible fantasia line-up. This year is no different as the tradition continues with Doomsday Book, a 2012 science-fiction film...

The first trailer for Fantastic Fear of Everything was released on Simon Pegg’s Twitter feed and it looks quite promissing and very entertaining. Pegg stars in the new quirky dark British comedy as a petrified writer named Jack, a children’s author obsessed with death and haunted by a hedgehog.
The film is written and directed by musician-turned-filmmaker Crispian Mills. He is joined by co-director and animator Chris Hopewell, whose award-winning work includes Radiohead’s “There There” and The Killers’ “Smile Like You Mean It.”
The film opens on June 8 in the U.K., but a U.S. release date has not yet been released.

In the filmmaking business, hitting a slump is unavoidable and bound to happen sooner or later. That said, talented actors do not tend to plummet as enthusiastically into the abyss as Simon Pegg does in his new film, A Fantastic Fear of Everything. Easily among the year’s worst, one can only hope that it is remembered as a mere smudge on an otherwise mostly distinguished career. Fortunately for Pegg, audiences should have no qualms banishing his latest farce from their consciousness within minutes of leaving the cinema, if they even make it that far.
Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills alongside ironically-surnamed co-director Chris Hopewell helms a film with sure visual promise – elicited by a moody opening animated sketch of London’s night skyline – but the duo quickly appears out of their depth when tackling Mills’ own messy, tone-deaf screenplay. The coalition government has repeatedly denied his existence, but Plan B proves he's for real with this intense, provocative survey of British urban decay in all its forms. A few too many forms, perhaps, as this crams in so many tales of hardship, exploitation, drugs and violence, and seeks to render them in so many ways (hip-hop numbers, tricksy visuals, flashbacks), it gets a bit carried away. Still, top marks for at least trying to tell it like it is.

It came, it saw, it massively underwhelmed. Nevertheless, despite lukewarm critical reviews, Prometheus shot to the top of the UK Box Office this week, comfortably ahead of Snow White and the Huntsman in second. I imagine Prometheus will have plenty of legs and should be at the top for another week or so yet as people flock to see what all the fuss is about.
The major release this week is Lucasfilm production Red Tails which tells the story of the first African-American airmen to serve in the American army during World War 2. It’s a project George Lucas has had gestating for some time now but he has wisely handed over directorial duties to Anthony Hemingway, an experienced TV director making his first foray into feature films. Simon Pegg takes the lead in A Fantastic Fear of Everything, the first film to benefit from investment from Pinewood Studios and the feature debut of Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell.
The film takes us through the downward spiral of paranoia and delusions in the most terrifying laundrette in the world through the eyes of Pegg’s character Jack, a writer whose research into Victorian serial killers begins to leak into his everyday life.

The actor and frontman of Kula Shaker on how they came to make the comedy-horror film A Fantastic Fear of Everything
In an ideal world, Simon Pegg would physically assault his audience. "People need to be poked in the face," he announces, gripped suddenly by a passion so intense it causes him to surface from the fog of jetlag and shove aside his walnut and avocado salad. (He only recently returned to the UK from shooting Star Trek 2 in Los Angeles, and admits to needing help with key nouns and adjectives.) "Maybe not a poke in the face," he continues after a second's thought. "But the ribs, at least. I like the idea of confounding audiences to a degree, challenging their expectations. We are given what we expect so much now. There's this desperate fear of upsetting anyone. All we get in the cinema are 3D fireworks displays. But...

Tomorrow sees Simon Pegg front the world’s first psycho-comedy as A Fantastic Fear of Everything enters UK cinemas.
The first film to benefit from investment from Pinewood Studios’ foray into film production this film was a labour of love for Crispian Mills and his co-director Chris Hopewell and in this interview they talk about getting the project off the ground and into cinemas.
I visited the set of the film last year and spoke to Crispian during post-production and these are good companion pieces to our coverage of the film this week as the road to Pinewood was a rough one.
Tomorrow we’ll have the interview with Simon Pegg up, for now here’s my chat with Mills and Hopewell.

★★☆☆☆ A Fantastic Fear of Everything (2012) joins a growing list of disappointing Simon Pegg projects that lack the charm and wit of his early endeavours (with Edgar Wright) such as cult series Spaced and big screen outings Shaun of The Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007). This surreal comedy, written and directed by Crispin Mills and Chris Hopewell, contains elements of Pegg's own distinctive style of humour, but is ultimately unsuccessful in its attempts to rekindle such past glories.

This is the Pure Movies review of A Fantastic Fear Of Everything, directed by Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell, and starring Simon Pegg, Paul Freeman, Amara Karan, Clare Higgins, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Kerry Shale. Simon Pegg plays Jack, a successful children’s author who wishes to be a serious crime novelist. However, while researching a novel based on Victorian serial killers, he undergoes a bout of paranoia, jumping at every bump and creak he hears within his rambling London flat. His agent contacts him with the news that a Hollywood big-shot wants to meet him, so Jack must smarten up his act… literally. He has to visit his dreaded local launderette to wash his only presentable outfit. However, it forces him to confront many of his worst fears, with a seemingly innocuous trip turning into an expedition with life-or-death ramifications.

Simon Pegg pops up in a selection of new stills from new fantasy comedy flick 'A Fantastic Fear of Everything'. The new pics, featuring Pegg ('Shaun of the Dead'), come courtesy of HeyUGuys and show the beloved ginger one in total fear in the much featured scary launderette. Pegg plays Jack a childrens author who decides to switch genres to crime novels which eventually evolve the novelist into a paranoid wreck. Chris Hopewell and Crispian Mills co-direct from the script penned by ex-Kula Shaker lead man Mills. 'A Fantastic Fear of Everything' also stars Amara Karan, Clare Higgins, Sheridan Smith and Alan Drake. Check out the trio of stills below....

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to tell you that I saw Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell’s film last night, but I did and my review of A Fantastic Fear of Everything (a self-dubbed Psycho Comedy) will be up on the site next week.
From what I gleaned from the set visit last year and my conversations with the directors this is very much Pegg’s film. From the boost he gave to Mills and Hopewell’s vision when he jumped enthusiastically on board to taking the entirety of the film on his shoulders it will be a tour de force from the actor.
Also of note is that A Fantastic Fear of Everything is the first film to benefit from investment from Pinewood Films and I doubt you could find a more suitable bedfellow than this one. In these new pics we see Pegg confront fear...

A Fantastic Fear of Everything sees co-directors Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell making their directorial debuts, and having Simon Pegg starring in the lead is definitely a) a nice way to make your debut, and b) a strong suggestion that the film is going to be brilliant.
The awesome first trailer landed last month, and now with only a few shorts weeks left before its UK release, a new image of Pegg and his co-star Amara Karan (The Darjeeling Limited) has surfaced via the film’s official Facebook.

Calling your first film ‘the world’s first psycho-comedy’ is a sure sign that you know you have something special on your hands and with A Fantastic Fear of Everything director Crispian Mills’ vision of a man possessed by his own imagination is finally committed to film with an eye to a Summer release date.
When we visited the set at Pinewood last year the director was busying himself in the incredibly detailed surrounds of the world he had spent five years creating, a world in which Simon Pegg’s Jack is rapidly losing himself while doing research for a script about a serial killer. Mills too was lost within the muddled miscellany of his set and it would be a few months before he had emerged from the shoot to talk about the history of the film, how it evolved over time and just how difficult it is to get a film made today.

From the break-out hit Shaun of the Dead to his most recent turn in Ghotocol, Simon Pegg has starred in a solid string of blockbusters. But it’s time to get experimental, and he’s picked a project that could potentially stretch his resume past the mainstream.
The poster for his upcoming film A Fantastic Fear of Everything debuted, and it somehow manages to combine macabre and whimsy in a way that definitely elevates my interest. If the trailer we posted is any indication, it has a lot of potential. Helmed by Chris Hopewell and Crispian Mills, all the elements point at creative visuals aplenty and a gleefully dark storyline, all pulled together by Pegg’s neurotic character. It’s scheduled to release in the UK and Ireland on June 8th, but no word yet on a domestic release. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.

A film we’re very much looking forward to here at HeyUGuys is the Chris Hopewell/Crispian Mills directed A Fantastic Fear of Everything, and today the new poster was pushed out into the internether.
Trousersless and probably all the better for it, Simon Pegg is very much front and centre in this story of a children’s author whose script finds its way into a Hollywood executive’s hands, prompting a downward spiral of research into Victorian serial killers.
We visited the set last year and you can read our report here, the trailer we saw recently looks like there’ll be a unique visual flavour to this one and it’s well worth keeping an eye or two on this film, the first to benefit from Pinewood’s new production fund.
Here’s the poster,

It’s a beautiful day to the west of London with a sky annoyingly clear and blue we are led through a dark corridor and there we find, housed in a soundstage of Pinewood, an entire world.
A Fantastic Fear of Everything is the first beneficiary of Pinewood Studio’s funding programme for new British films and co-directors Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell are busy utilising live action and stop motion to bring alive the world’s first psycho-comedy.
Producer Geraldine Patten explained that key phrase, ‘We didn’t feel any existing phrase was going to quite do [the film] justice. It’ll all become clear but in the meantime it’ll hopefully give you an idea of where we’re going with this character and the film.’
The character in question is Jack, played by Simon Pegg and the title of this piece is perhaps a little misleading as we were...

Okay, I've found the next flick I absolutely have to see...umm, following all the other flicks I already absolutely have to see. See? Anyway, it's called A Fantastic Fear of Everything, and the trailer rocks.
A Fantastic Fear of Everything stars pop culture aficionado and icon Simon Pegg as a children's author who turns his attentions to penning a crime novel. But, as will happen, his research turns him into a pathetic neurotic mess, plagued by an irrational fear of being murdered. Of course, these crazy paranoid fantasies don't seem so absurd when he's targeted by a real-life serial killer.
For a movie dealing with an architect of the written word, A Fantastic Fear has quite the musical pedigree. The film was written and directed by Crispian Mills (formerly of hip British band Kula Shaker) and co-directed by Chris Hopewell (hip director of hip music videos for hip bands...

Simon Pegg's new comedy is about a petrified writer haunted by a hedgehog. Will you dare watch the trailer?
Steel yourself and press play on the trailer for A Fantastic Fear of Everything, a new comedy about a petrified writer starring Simon Pegg.
Written and directed by ex-Kula Shaker errr ... shaker Crispian Mills, AFFoE sees Pegg – who released the trailer exclusive on his Twitter feed – play Jack, a dorky children's author whose decision to move into gothic horror sparks a bout of crippling anxiety. There's not much that Jack isn't scared of – fire, the dark and a visit to the launderette get him shrieking in the trailer's two minutes alone – but the root of his problems appear to be a cuddly hedgehog, which has leapt from the pages of his children's story into terrifying life. Two trailers for tantalizing crime film hit the internets this weekend. Both put hooks in me. One of them hauls hard enough on the line to haul me into the theaters immediately upon its release.
These two-minute bits of buzz are the Transit trailer and the A Fantastic Fear of Everything trailer. You can check them out below. I expect, in both cases, you’ll be glad you did.
Glad, that is, unless you don’t appreciate the kind of trailer that’ll be stapled onto your nightmares. There’s a scientifically proven 65% chance of that happening in the case of one of them.
That one in question – surprise, surprise – is the teaser for A Fantastic Fear of Everything. Simon Pegg stars in this surrealist crime-flavored dark comedy, as a deeply traumatized children’s book writer whose foray into crime fiction unleashes hordes of inner demons onto his vulnerable psyche.

Simon Pegg, best known for the awesome Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, will be back on the big screen this summer in A Fantastic Fear of Everything.

Co-directors Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell are making their directorial debuts, directing from Mills’ script, and it looks like it should be another great performance by Pegg.
