Ryan K. McNeal is a Los Angeles based filmmaker best known for his work as a colorist and director.
Growing up, Ryan and his family moved city to city throughout his childhood. No place was home and he was forever the new kid, forever an outsider. By the time he graduated high school he had lived in over 26 homes and 9 school districts. Feeling more like an observer in life, rather than a participant, Ryan found his voice in art. He attended the last two years of high school in Evansville, Wisconsin, where he met his high school sweetheart and future partner in both life and business, Becky. Ryan went to university at Columbia College Chicago, studying directing and fiction writing.
After moving to LA and working paid internships, Ryan caught his first break with Company 3 as a DI Color Assistant, where he worked on many recognizable projects with some of the best colorists in the world. After spending three years as at Company 3, Ryan left and founded RKM Studios with his wife Becky, offering professional color grading services for feature films, television, commercials, and music videos. With a background in oil painting, drawing, photography, and design, Ryan brings his knowledge of both modern and classical art into the color suite. Ryan has experience coloring a wide range of projects, from short films to features to music videos. As a colorist, Ryan believes color serves as a window into the internal world of the characters. It is a language to see what the characters feel.
Ryan also works as a director, taking a bold and cinematic approach to every directing project. He has directed music videos for critically acclaimed artists such as Two Steps from Hell, Jennifer Thomas, and DJ Snails. Ryan's true passion lies in narrative storytelling. His short film Desert Rose (2018) has premiered at acclaimed film festivals including the HollyShorts Film Festival in Los Angeles.
