Ian Chen(IV)
- Visual Effects
- Editor
- Cinematographer

Born in September 1981 in Taiwan, Ian Chen first discovered his passion for movie-going on the job at Warner Village Cinema. He found that what he saw and heard in the auditorium didn't quite always describe how he felt when the lights came back on. It would take him another few years at Shih Hsin University to call that gap a phenomenon induced by 'montage' - the fundamental mechanism on which editing works. In 2008, he graduated with a BA degree with a concentration in Cinematography and Film/Video Production. By that time, Chen had shot and edited cooperate videos, music videos, and short documentaries and demonstrated a wide range of capabilities.
In 2010, Chen joined the Academy Awarded special effects team of Fox Worldwide Production Life of Pi as Production Assistant. Under the supervision of Tom Fisher, Don Elliot, and Andrew Miller, he coordinated Taiwan's local services to meet SPFX's construction and shooting demands. On set, he also had the responsibility to accurately translate the onset supervisor's instructions to the local technicians and outsourced service providers. In 2012, he returned to the editing bay as Series Editor of the TV romance drama 'I love You' broadcast on Formosa TV Network. He cut the first four episodes that outperformed virtually any other show in the same slot.
In the spring of 2014, Chen began studying at London Film School and graduated with MA in Filmmaking degree in 2017. During this time, he had written and directed a 5-minute experimental short film with West-end actress Janet Kuman, DP-ed a beloved thriller, and edited as well as produced visual effects for some short features.
Ian Chen is now a freelance editor.
