The premium cable movie channel Starz has reportedly canceled three of their shows plus one upcoming project, according to Deadline. Starz will no longer be continuing the run of the wrestling drama Heels, as well as Run the World and Blindspotting. In addition, the channel has also decided not to proceed with The Venery of Samantha Bird. Heels, Run the World and Blindspotting have all completed two seasons, but The Venery of Samantha Bird was in the middle of production when the show paused for the strikes. Two episodes were left to film in the season.
Heels was produced by Lionsgate and Paramount Network Television and the plot, per Deadline, “revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. There are some big changes at Starz, and it's bad news for four shows.
Variety reported Monday evening that the premium cabler has canceled Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting and is scrapping The Venery of Samantha Bird ahead of its premiere.
Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting lasted for two seasons on the premium cabler, but it seems that the trio didn't have enough interest to sustain additional seasons.
The highest profile of the three shows was Heels, which starred Stephen Amell as Jack Spade, a man who inherited the league from his father.
However, he struggled to keep things running well, leading to plenty of drama across the two seasons.
The cast also included Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, and Trey Tucker.
Rounding out the cast were Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk.

Starz has axed three existing drama series and one upcoming project.
The network has binned Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting as well as not moving forward with The Venery of Samantha Bird.
Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting all aired two seasons and The Venery of Samantha Bird paused production in May due to the strikes with two episodes left to film.
Heels revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals (Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig) war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

Starz is canceling four of its series, Variety has learned exclusively. Specifically, “Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” will not get new seasons at the cable network, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” Season 1 is being scrapped without airing.
“Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” all recently aired their second season at Starz, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” was in production on its first season. Production was shut down, however, at the onset of the WGA strike. It was reported at the time that only two episodes of the first season were left to shoot.
“The Venery of Samantha Bird” was to star Katherine Langford as the title character. Per the official logline, “Samantha, while visiting family in New England, reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But the couple’s picture-perfect love story isn’t as sweet as it seems on the surface.

An individual with knowledge of the decisionmaking told TheWrap that the shows “unfortunately did not find a large enough audience” to be renewed for more episodes. A decision has yet to be made on the series “Minx,” which aired its Season 2 finale on Sept. 8.
The decision to remove the shows from the slate came after strong consideration, and per the insider, the network hopes to work with Rafael Casal (“Blindspotting”), Daveed Diggs (“Blindspotting”), Rachelle Williams-Benary (“Run the World”) and Mike O’Malley (“Heels”) in the future. Each of these shows have all aired their second seasons.
“The Venery of Samantha,” starring Katherine Langford and created by Anna Moriarty, only had two more episodes of its first season left to film, but the writers’ and actors’ strikes impacted its cancellation.

Things look a bit different in "Run the World" season two - starting with one of the main characters. The Starz dramedy returned on May 26 to pick back up where it left off with best friends Whitney (Amber Stevens West), Renee (Bresha Webb), and Sondi (Corbin Reid) following season one's roller-coaster finale. However, there's one face that's noticeably absent in the season two premiere: Andrea Bordeaux's Ella.
As fans may remember, although the Harlem-set series focuses on the girls' friend group as a whole, it all started with Ella at the beginning of season one, as she kicked off the next phase of her struggling writing career at the digital gossip site Hot Tea Digest. Throughout the first season, Ella's resurrected career and hectic love life were major storylines that continued until the very end, where she finally patched things up with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Anderson (Nick Sagar...

The "Run the World" Cast Tease the Girls "All Take Risks" in Season 2: "Jumping Off Cliffs Together"
It's hard to believe it's been two years since Starz's "Run the World" first hit our TV screens - even the cast are surprised when they think about the show's long hiatus. But the good news is the Harlem-set dramedy is finally back for season two, which kicked off on May 26, and 30-something-year-old besties Whitney (Amber Stevens West), Renee (Bresha Webb), and Sondi (Corbin Reid) are ready to get back into the swing of things. Of course, the half-hour series returns for much more drama, sisterhood, and romance following season one's wild finale, but that's not all viewers can look forward to.
"We just leaned in harder because we became even closer friends during the break in between, so it was easy to dive right back in."

Our Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series often covers older films. You may have noticed that we have a particular fondness for movies from the 1980s. But occasionally we cover more recent releases as well, and the movie we’re looking at with today’s episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was just released six years ago. The film in question is Blair Witch (watch it Here), and you can find out all about it by watching the video embedded above.
Directed by Adam Wingard from a screenplay written by Simon Barrett, Blair Witch is, of course, a follow-up to The Blair Witch Project. This one has the following synopsis:

This premiered at the 2021 Mardi Gras Film Festival in Australia earlier this year, and also played at the Florida Film Festival. Devastated by the unexpected suicide of her best friend Fiona, Jane helps her widow Gemma care for their son. The relationship develops from a tentative friendship to a deeper affair that's potentially catastrophic to the healing of all involved. Can Jane really keep living her life vicariously through Fiona's family? Jeanette Maus stars in My Fiona as Jane, with Corbin Reid co-starring as Gemma, and a cast including Elohim Nycalove, Sara Amini, Ryan W. Garcia, April Lang, and Camille Guaty. As we've watched the first season and gotten to know the characters, it's almost like Whitney Green (Amber Stevens West), Ella McFair (Andrea Bordeaux), Renee Ross (Bresha Webb), Sondi Hill (Corbin Reid) have become our best friends as well. Just as the four women have grown together on screen, the cast has become just as close in real life.

Starz has released the results of a nationwide consumer survey, which affirms the demand for diverse, authentic and inclusive representation within the entertainment industry.
The study, titled “Give The People What They Want: US Audiences and Their Appetite for Multicultural Media Content,” was conducted in partnership with UCLA’s Center for Scholars & Storytellers.
Polling adults between the ages of 18 and 54, it found that cast and creator diversity are two of the top drivers of how audiences choose content. 60.4% of respondents said that diversity behind the camera is important, while 49.1% noted the importance of having women behind the camera.
At the same time, respondents felt that authentic representation is still lacking, among both women and racial/ethnic minorities. Just 35.7% of respondents of from racial/ethnic minority groups said they felt well represented in today’s media, and only 38.5% of women said the same, compared to 59.7% of men.

As I pressed play on the first episode of “Run the World,” I wasn’t intending to mainline the entire eight-episode season in one greedy gulp. But as a blessedly rare warm New York City breeze floated through my open window, Leigh Davenport’s lush new series about four friends having a vivid, game-changing Harlem summer proved too good and fitting to resist.
“Run the World,” premiering May 16 on Starz, is immediately self-aware of its place in the TV canon, particularly as a witty dramedy about four thirty-something women falling in and out of love and lust in New York. In the pilot, frustrated writer Ella (Andrea Bordeaux) fondly refers to her on and off boyfriend Anderson (Nick Sagar) as her “Big,” as in the infamous “Mr. Big” who drove Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw so wild throughout “Sex and the City.” But on “Run the World,” Ella’s...

Just hours after the CDC announced Thursday that vaccinated people can now generally go unmasked in private and public spaces, Starz rolled out the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of its new comedy series “Run the World” at NeueHouse Hollywood.
“It’s going to be an interesting adjustment for a lot of people,” Amber Stevens West, who plays Whitney on the show, told Variety. “I’ll probably still be wearing a mask out for a while unless I’m with company that I know I’m comfortable with, just for safety reasons. Also, I think culturally it’s a nice thing to establish.”
“Run the World” centers on a group of four Black best friends in Harlem as they navigate their careers, romance and more. Created by Leigh Davenport and executive produced by Yvette Lee Bowser (“Living Single”), Stevens West’s costars include Bresha Webb, Corbin Reid and Andrea Bordeaux.

When Leigh Davenport was in her mid-20s living in Harlem, N.Y., preoccupied with figuring out how to climb corporate and social ladders and scoring the best guy, she wanted to see her friend group on screen.
“At the time, there was a lot of reality TV that just showed Black women pouring drinks on each other and snatching weaves off and there was always a lot of conversation about how single Black women can’t get a man. There was so much enforcement of negative stereotypes and just a general air of negative energy, and I wanted something aspirational,” she tells Variety.
Deciding to be the change she wanted to see, Davenport drew on material from her own life to create “Run The World,” a half-hour comedy that follows four smart, funny and vibrant 30-something Black female friends and bows May 16 on Starz.
