There are a lot of controversial choices made throughout the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, but one that fans bicker about to this day is the Reylo romance. In "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker," Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) finally share a kiss, seemingly clarifying that the growing connection between them throughout "Episode VIII -- The Last Jedi" was indeed a romantic one. Anti-Reylo fans were pissed, but luckily(?) Kylo died not long after, so the whole debate was mostly rendered moot. Still, some fans think it was in poor taste to depict a romance between our hero and Kylo Ren, who is basically Space Hitler as far as this universe is concerned.

Star Wars is a vast franchise with hundreds of characters spread across various media, including movies, live-action shows, games, books, graphic novels, and animated series. With so many characters, determining the “worst” can be quite a challenge.
On platforms like Ranker, it can be difficult to pinpoint “the most hated” characters since the bottom 200 or so spots are often filled with minor characters who are not necessarily disliked but rather aren’t well-known enough to receive more votes. To narrow it down, we focused on the first 100 characters in the rankings and identified the lowest-ranking live-action characters from that group. Let’s find out who the least popular characters in the Star Wars universe are.

Image Source: Sony Pictures Thanks to its audacious story and unique mix of sci-fi mayhem and urban gritty life, Attack the Block written and directed by Joe Cornish has earned its place as a cult favorite. South London serves as the backdrop for the movie, which follows a gang of teenagers combating an alien invasion threatening their local area. The movie developed a unique identity in the sci-fi genre from excellent performances from its young and upcoming cast at the time Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, and John Boyega. When the film first hit screens in 2011, Cornish shared his thoughts on what makes Attack the Block stand out. Is it satire? Or is it a classic piece of science fiction? When Chioma Ude founded the Africa International Film Festival in 2010, her mission was clear: Create a hub for the African filmmaking community that would connect new and existing African talent with the global film business while also, crucially, providing a place that would empower and train the next generation of the continent’s storytellers.
Already a prolific entrepreneur with a background in marketing and logistics, Ude was making a name for herself in the African entertainment space at the time. After doing a road show for the Nigeria Film and Videos Censors Board in London, she was brought aboard as a project manager for the Ion International Film festival, a global touring festival which was headed to Nigeria.
Her work impressed local government officials and the experience, says Ude, gave her the idea to launch a Lagos-based international film festival with a wider focus on the African continent.

Actor John Boyega recently openly criticized the romantic pairing of Rey and Kylo Ren, commonly referred to as “Reylo” by fans. In a candid interview, Boyega expressed his disapproval of the relationship, stating:
“[Kylo Ren] trying to kill you is not a part of the romance. Chasing him and saying, ‘We can become something powerful!’ I’m there like, ‘I wouldn’t tell my sisters to do that.’”
Boyega’s comments highlight the concern that many fans share over the portrayal of a relationship that, in his view, romanticizes toxic behavior. He believes that Rey’s character would have been better suited in a relationship with Finn, suggesting that their bond throughout the trilogy laid a more solid foundation for romance.

There was a time in the Star Wars universe where John Boyega's Finn and Daisy Ridley's Rey formed the backbone of the resistance against the Empire. While Finn's time might have now passed, Rey remains very much at the forefront of the struggle with the upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order, reportedly the character's next outing. New Jedi Order is one of several upcoming projects within the franchise, and Boyega is excited by it, and what it means for Daisy and her place within the franchise.

When we think of John Boyega, we immediately attach his name to one of the biggest franchises in the world, Star Wars. However, before Boyega became Finn, a galactic hero, the actor played Moses in the 2011 sci-fi horror Attack the Block. While he wasn't a valiant force-sensitive resistance fighter, Boyega's Moses helps defend his neighborhood from an alien threat. "A group of valiant teenagers ventures out to battle a savage alien incursion. With the invasive species jeopardizing their vicinity in Southern London, they fight to succeed in their mission," reads the official synopsis. In the aftermath of its premiere and despite its short theatrical run, the film's legacy has grown with a sequel, Attack the Block 2, confirmed and in pre-production.
However, years have passed without Attack the Block 2 making it to screens. Speaking on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Boyega explained why the sequel has been delayed for so long.

As Lucasfilm moves forward with a new Star Wars film centered on Daisy Ridley's Rey establishing a new Jedi Order 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, speculation is rife about returning characters.

John Boyega explains the delayed development of Attack the Block 2. Before he played Finn in Star Wars, Boyega was in a British sci-fi movie called Attack the Block. The film centered around a teenage gang in South London who are forced to defend their territory when an alien invasion comes their way. The film was directed by Joe Cornish and featured a cast including Boyega, Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, and Leeon Jones. Since the movie's release in 2011, Attack the Block 2 has been confirmed and is currently in pre-production.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Boyega explains why Attack the Block 2 has been delayed. When pressed about why the film was taking so long, Boyega noted that Cornish and the team are "just cooking it to make it right for everyone." Part of this involves securing more funding to bring the effects up to modern standards.

Finn actor John Boyega recently revealed that he is very hopeful about Rey's upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order. New Jedi Order is one of several upcoming Star Wars movies, although doubts about the progress and the certainty of the project remain, especially after the Star Wars Celebration 2025 reveals shared little in the way of updates about the movie. At present, it does seem as though the movie is still in development, but announcements like Star Wars: Starfightermay mean it's been pushed to the background for now.
Nevertheless, many remain excited about New Jedi Order, including, evidently, Finn actor John Boyega. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Boyega shared:
"I miss Daisy, I haven't seen Daisy face-to-face in a minute... I found out [about Daisy's return] online. Being a genuine fan, I'm online, I watch reaction videos, I'm on the subscriber lists.

Nearly six years following the release of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," Lucasfilm has mostly avoided exploring the polarizing Sequel Trilogy era. Every possible discussion — both healthy and unhealthy — regarding the pros and cons of J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson's contributions to the Skywalker Saga remains some of the more exhausting discourses within geek culture, and to re-litigate these debates would be beating a dead tauntaun. However, the aspect of the Sequel Trilogy that fans can agree upon is that Finn (John Boyega) was wasted.
Following his phenomenal introduction in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as the male lead hero, Finn's storyline was subject to a bad game of telephone between Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams, both of whom had differing visions for where the character's development should go. John Boyega has been vocal about his frustration regarding Finn's diminishing character trajectory, and what is particularly ironic...

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios is in early talks with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier to helm the upcoming X-Men movie. Nothing is official now, but insiders say Schreier is looking like the top choice after a successful meeting last week. Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) wrote the script for the X-Men movie, with Kevin Feige producing.
Since Disney officially acquired 20th Century Fox more than five years ago, Marvel fans have been eager for the inevitable day when the X-Men will finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise took small steps, with a few mentions of mutants, but it slowly led to appearances from Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kelsey Grammer as Beast in The Marvels, and, of course, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular characters of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Tom Cruise is known as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, starring in some of the most successful films like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun. However, according to his Valkyrie co-star Kenneth Branagh, some people still don’t give him enough credit for his acting talent.
Cruise is about to receive the prestigious BFI Fellowship, an honor given by the British Film Institute to actors and producers who have made a significant contribution to the film industry. Before the award is presented, Branagh shared his thoughts with The Times of London about Cruise’s career.
Branagh explained, “If he ever tires of wowing the world with action, he’s going to surprise those who view him as only a movie star.” He continued, “What he’s done with ‘Mission’ and ‘Top Gun’ is unique — cinematic entertainment with a serious intent to give you a wonderful time at the movies. John Boyega, best known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, recently made an appearance at the Calgary Expo this past Sunday. During a lively Q&a, Boyega revealed a list of actors he’d love to work with, and among them was none other than Harrison Ford.
Although fans lit up at the idea of a Finn and Han Solo reunion, the tragic death of Ford’s iconic character in The Force Awakens sadly makes this dream impossible within the Star Wars universe. Despite the loss, Boyega’s admiration for Ford tells fans just how powerful and lasting Han Solo’s legacy truly is.
John Boyega reveals the actors he’d love to work with in the future!
The Calgary Expo, held from April 24 to 27, was absolutely buzzing this year with a galaxy of stars in attendance, including David Boreanaz, Nicholas Hoult, and Star Wars favorite John Boyega.

When it comes to Star Wars, everyone has an opinion.
Before Disney purchased the rights to the franchise, it really felt like fans might never see live-action offerings again. But the House of Mouse swooped in, for better or worse, and now we’re all swimming in an ocean of new content from a galaxy far, far away.
Whether it’s the Disney+ shows that are your bread and butter, or you’re one of the fans who think Disney has murdered the very fabric of Star Wars with every new addition, we all love to fit our opinions in a concise ranking. This is how the Disney-era of Star Wars shakes out for me.

The Rise of Skywalker hinted Finn had Force powers, or at least was Force-sensitive. John Boyega said he filmed a (scrapped) scene that fulfilled his hero's journey in the movie.
Finn was a Jedi in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, or he would have been if his alternate storyline had made it into the movies. Per Popverse, John Boyega said one scene in The Rise of Skywalker almost confirmed this: in the theatrical cut, Finn almost told Rey something before they were swallowed by quicksand on Pasaana. "I mean, I did try to tell Rey before I went down. There was a couple takes where I just said it, 'I'm a Jedi,'" Boyega revealed. "There was a couple, but it was good to tease it. I wanted to say it when they're going down into the quicksand."

At a recent panel at a C2E2 event in Chicago, John Boyega shed some extra light on what the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy almost did with his character Finn. Most fans have already heard that director J.J. Abrams intended to reveal that Finn was force-sensitive, but Boyega offered up a little more info about what that moment would've looked like. Finn was supposed to have this big reveal when he was sinking into quicksand on the desert planet of Pasaana. In the finished cut, Finn yells "Rey, I never told you..." but then gets sucked under the sand. He's later rescued, but never explains what he was going to say. But as Boyega put it:
"I mean, I did try to tell Rey before I went down. There was a couple takes where I just said it, '[shouts] I'm a Jedi.' There was a couple, but it was good to tease it.

All the new movies coming out in recent years are aiming to be critically praised, but some films defy the odds—they don’t really care about IMDb scores but rather serve as a source for people to have fun. Think about it—how many times have you watched a movie, had a blast, and then checked the IMDb score only to find a mediocre number?
Many films out there get roasted by critics but still manage to rack up millions. And sometimes, who doesn’t love over-the-top, CGI-packed movies—types of films that make you roll on the floor laughing? There are many films starring actors like Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell that somehow manage to rank low on IMDb, yet grip the audience from start to end.

We first heard about plans for a live-action Pacific Rim series last year, and we now have confirmation that the project is moving forward at Amazon Prime Video.
Variety reports that the show is being developed as part of a deal between lead studio Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Heisserer will serve as writer and executive producer under his Chronology banner.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but we do know that the untitled series will serve as a prequel to the movies. Apparently, "there is still the potential for new films in the franchise as well."

When Jar Jar Binks first appeared in Star Wars, people didn't respond to the character very well. Yet there's no denying that the technology used to create him set the groundwork for computer-generated characters to come.
The actor who played Jar Jar, Ahmed Best, was subjected to years of bullying over his portrayal of the character. Thankfully, he was able to come out the other side of it. Now he's spoken with ScreenRant at Star Wars Celebration while helping to promote Light & Magic Season 2, a show that examines the intersection of technology and storytelling in the movie world by looking at the achievements of Ilm.
"Doing The Phantom Menace at that time was like being in the best film company and the best internet startup you can possibly imagine," Best remembered of the early years of Jar Jar. "I mean, every day was an iterative experience. Every day was an invention.

Prime Video is drift-compatible with Pacific Rim. A TV spinoff of Guillermo del Toro's 2013 mecha vs. monsters magnum opus is coming to the streaming service. Variety reports that Eric Heisserer is writing and executive producing the series.
Heisserer is an Academy Award nominee for his Arrivalscript; recently, he wrote and showran Netflix's Shadow and Bone. His Pacific Rim series is to be a prequel to the 2013 film, which previously received a 2018 sequel and a 2021 Netflix animated series. The new series will be live-action, but it does not rule out any future theatrical films in the franchise, which have lingered in development hell since 2018's Pacific Rim: Uprising disappointed at the box office. There is no word yet on whether any of the film's characters or cast members will return, or if the ever-busy del Toro will have any involvement with the series.

No major fandom is immune to toxicity, and although this isn’t to say such fanbases surrounding major IPs are toxic in their entirety, a vocal minority, especially in the age of social media, often fosters a negative environment. This remains much more evident when it comes to Star Wars, arguably one of the biggest IPs in business, and its lack of direction since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm has only contributed to the toxic subset.

But amidst studio misfires, it’s the actors who often end up paying the cost, especially when it comes to people of color in major roles, which was apparent with the racist backlash against John Boyega. In addition to Boyega, his co-star Kelly Marie Tran also found herself at the center of the racist backlash, and like him, the actress has opted to call the toxicity out.

Kelly Marie Tran recently reflected on the hate she and her character Rose Tico received when “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” was released in 2017, calling the bullying that drove her off social media “a microcosm for the social climate that we’re living in.”
Tran, who co-stars in Andrew Ahn’s “The Wedding Banquet” remake, said what she and co-star John Boyega experienced after joining the franchise happens “pretty consistently to actors of color who find themselves in these spaces,” she told Variety in an interview published on Wednesday.
“I think these occurrences are a microcosm for the social climate that we’re living in. And it’s really unfortunate,” the actress shared.
When asked what she hopes changes in Hollywood for actors of color, she replied, “The world?!””
She added, “The hope is that people who are not afforded the ability, maybe, to have access to these communities of...

Kelly Marie Tran faced a tidal wave of racism after she was cast to play Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She was the first Asian woman to play a lead role in the world-famous space saga and some so-called fans reacted with venom.
Now, Tran is celebrating her heritage and picking Asian-lead movies. “I’ve been able to learn how to celebrate the parts of myself that, at the time, I was scared of, or I was made to feel like I had to be ashamed of,” she told Variety. Next up for her is The Wedding Banquet, where she'll star opposite Lily Gladstone. She plays a queer woman in the film - and last year, she came out as queer herself.
“This past year, I did four movies, and they were all Asian stories with Asian writer-directors, and a few of those were also queer writer-directors,...

Kelly Marie Tran is finally in a good place in her career. She’s proud of who she is and the roles she’s taking on. But just a few years ago, things were very different.
When Tran joined the Star Wars universe in 2017 as Rose Tico in The Last Jedi, she faced terrible backlash. Some fans reacted with racism and sexism, sending hateful messages and attacking her online. Now, Tran is speaking up about how that time affected her.
“I was persecuted,” Tran said, describing how deeply the hate hurt. She believes it wasn’t just about her character, but about something much bigger. “It’s interesting how it seems to be happening pretty consistently to actors of color who find themselves in these spaces,” she said.
Tran thinks her experience reflects what’s going on in society today. “These occurrences are a microcosm for the social climate that we’re living in.
