Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning NFL quarterback, is retiring from the game.
“This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes,” Brady writes on Instagram and Twitter today. “I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”
Brady’s retirement comes after 22 historic NFL seasons and follows considerable recent speculation about his future.
In a series of tweets and Instagram posts this morning, Brady brought an end to the speculation.
“I have always believed the sport of football is an ‘all-in’ proposition — if a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game,” he writes. “There is a physical, mental, and emotional challenge Every single day that has...

Update: Antonio Brown said on Wednesday that an injured ankle was behind his refusal to go into the Tampa Bay/New York Jets game.
Brown said he was going to have surgery on the injury, which he claimed the Buccaneers covered up and forced him into playing while hurt.
“Because of my commitment to the game, I relented to pressure directly from my coach [Bruce Arians] to play injured,” Brown said in a statement via his attorney Sean Burstyn. “Despite the pain, I suited up, the staff injected me with what I know was a powerful and sometimes dangerous painkiller that the Nflpa has warned against using, and I gave it all for my team.”
While on the sidelines, Brown said he told Arians he couldn’t go back in the game. That’s when he was told that he was “done.” He then doffed his equipment, threw his jersey into the crowd,...

Never bet against the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All-Time). For now, that’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. Someday, that may be Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But not on this day at Super Bowl Lv, as the underdog Tampa Bay Bucs destroyed the defending champion Chiefs by 31-9 in a game that seemed over in the first half.
A stifling Tampa Bay defense had Mahomes running for his life for much of the game, as Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles devised an attacking defense that threw Mahomes off his game. It wasn’t pretty, and Kansas City had no answers. It was an unexpected blowout of the defending champions, and as CBS announcer Jim Nantz noted, a lot of people were probably disappointed that the game turned into a rout.

On the Saturday Night Live before Super Bowl Sunday, the show began with a cold open sketch that parodied pregame shows, brands’ politically charged Super Bowl ads and the head coaches hoping to lead the Kansas City Chiefs/Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory.
The sketch, which also mocked studios overstuffed with football commentators and analysts, noted that the Super Bowl would be simulcast on Nickelodeon (which is true) as well as Bravo, where the matchup between quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes is being advertised as “Old Hag Vs. Typically the cold opens of “Saturday Night Live” parody the politics of the past week, but for its second show of 2021, the NBC late-night sketch comedy series looked ahead — to Sunday’s Super Bowl.

It was only a few years ago that the Nfc West was considered the worst division in the NFL, and all of pro football for that matter.
It was the laughing stock of the whole league as the Seattle Seahawks won a divisional title with a 7-9 record, becoming the first team ever to make the play-offs with a losing record back in 2010.
Fast forward a couple of years and it is difficult to picture how the Nfc West could be transformed into arguably the best and most interesting division in the NFL, as we approach the start of the 2013 season in a little over a weeks time.
The situation was so dire that a genuine discussion was held about whether the governing body of the league needed to alter – or at the very least look at – the seeding system for the play-offs.
