Happy Halloween! Dan Stevens is officially reuniting with The Guest director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett on gonzo actioner Onslaught, THR reports today.
Blink Twice star Adria Arjona and Brazilian mixed martial artist Alex Pereira star in the A24 film.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Onslaught is being described as “a gonzo action horror thriller.”
Character details also give insight on what to expect. THR reports that “Arjona is starring as a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base. Pereira will play a character called The Butcher, and bring his set of skills – including anaconda chokes and roundhouse kicks – to his meaty role.”

Milla Jovovich's Leeloo from Luc Besson's '90s sci-fi movie, The Fifth Element, has always been a very popular costume choice among celebrities around this time of year, but we're not sure anyone has ever pulled off this look quite as well as Samara Weaving.
The Australian actress and model - who has become known as something of a "Scream Queen" thanks to roles in the likes of Ready Or Not, Scream VI, The Babysitter and this year's Azrael - shared some shots from her Halloween photoshoot to Instagram, showcasing the outfit Leeloo spends most of the movie in, along with the more recognizable white costume.
The Fifth Element was a pretty big box office success overseas, but underperformed in the US. While it was highly divisive among critics at the time of its release, it has since come to be regarded as a cult classic - although...

After sitting out the last movie, Scream icon Neve Campbell was convinced to reprise the role of Sidney Prescott for the upcoming seventh instalment in the long-running slasher franchise - but her decision to return was not without some controversy.
“Sidney Prescott is coming back!” Campbell posted on Instagram when her return was made official. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

“Many years after the rapture,” we are told, “among the survivors, some are driven to renounce the sin of Speech.”
The visual world building in El Katz’s Frightfest-featured post-apocalyptic horror flick is ingenious, weaving together apparently disparate elements which one can imagine might survive in such a situation and, by dint of the fact that most characters don’t speak, avoiding any pressure to explain them. People are living in camps in the woods, yet others still drive. Religious beliefs have shifted dramatically, but there are still denim jeans and waterproof jackets. We get a sense of parallel societies co-existing not that far apart, though we only really connect with one. The is where we find Azrael (Samara Weaving), a prisoner who has escaped along with her love (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) and is striving to put distance between the two of them and a cult that wants to sacrifice them to.

The next Scream movie is scheduled to begin filming soon (possibly by the end of the year), and a new casting rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) is in talks to join the cast.
According to Daniel Richtman, Grace is up for the role of Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) eldest daughter, Tatum.
We also have confirmation that Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers. The Friends alum had previously stated that she hadn't officially signed on, but has now revealed to US Magazine that Gale will be back after coming very close to death (every one of those 356 knife wounds clearly missed her vital organs) in the previous movie.
"I’m the longest running Scream queen, so I guess I can’t stop now,” said the actress.

Hip, hip, hooray! We finally have confirmation that a Ready or Not 2 is happening after months of speculation. On Oct. 12, Radio Silence (the team behind the first film) announced at a Searchlight screening for the 2019 film that started it all, Ready or Not, that a sequel was officially in the works. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming Ready or Not 2.
Unfortunately, it's unknown when production will start on the film. A release date hasn't been revealed either. However, this isn't surprising, seeing as though the sequel was just announced. It'll be some time before these juicy deets are revealed. However, what we do know is that Samara Weaving will be returning. Weaving starred in the leading role of Grace in the first film.

Over the weekend Radio Silence, the production company behind the 2019 horror-comedy hit Ready or Not, revealed they’re now working on a sequel. Samara Weaving, the star of the first film, will return, presumably in the same role. The same writing team who typed up the first script will be back as well, along with the same producers. Weaving played Grace, a young woman marrying into a wealthy family — only she doesn’t realize her luck isn’t as good as she thinks. This family seems to have acquired its wealth and power through underworldly means, and we don’t mean the mob. Whenever a new member marries into the family, they have to play a ritual the night after nuptials, and if the bride or groom winds up with the Hide or Seek card…that means the rest of the family has to kill them. Grace, of course, picks that card,...

It’s spooky-season which means it’s time for chilly weather, falling leaves and, of course, horror movies. We’re celebrating the genre by honoring those that make it so special with a countdown of the greatest scream queens working today.
7. Anya Taylor-Joy Robert Eggers hates his debut film The Witch starring Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy took over the high-octane, adrenaline-fueled world of Mad Max with this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but its her work in the terrifying world of horror that gets her on this list. Starting with Robert Eggers The Witch, the talented young actress went on to showcase her skillset in the genre through a wide range of films while working with some of the most talented filmmakers in the business. Split, Last Night in Soho and The Menu are prime examples of what makes Anya Taylor-Joy a true scream queen.

While it didn’t break box office records or anything during its 2019 release, “Ready or Not” did serve as the breakout film for both lead actress Samara Weaving and filmmakers Radio Silence. It was a Searchlight film that definitely turned a tidy profit, and it was generally loved by critics and audience members alike. All that to say, it’s no surprise that a sequel is on its way.

The sequel to 2017 horror Ready or Not is finally heading towards production, original directors Radio Silence and star Samara Weaving will return.
Despite the busy schedule of Radio Silence and the original film’s star, Samara Weaving, there have been talks about a sequel to Ready Or Not for several years. According to Deadline, Radio Silence have confirmed the sequel is happening and production will begin soon.
Weaving will return as Grace, and the actor said recently of the sequel, “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in…I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together”.
Directorial duo Radio Silence – Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – have built up a hugely successful filmography over the last few years.

Run, run, run! Time to run and hide... again! The bride is back. The acclaimed wedding night horror-comedy “Ready or Not” is coming back for a sequel with lead actress Samara Weaving, who is no stranger to the genre cast in Netflix’s “The Babysitter” and the 2022 “Scream” film, among many others.
Production company Radio Silence is returning with the fan-favorite film centered around a children’s game turned deadly, along with Searchlight Pictures, who will distribute the horror movie. The film collective, also known for films like “Scream VI,” comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, and Chad Villella.
The first movie, released in 2019, was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. It follows a young bride who discovers at her wedding reception that her in-laws have a peculiar game-night ritual that turns into a predator-prey, murder-spree version of Hide and Seek—all because of a deal her in-laws made with the devil.

Returning Scream star Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott) and new director Kevin Williamson recently announced that the seventh movie - which is seemingly being referred to as Scream 7 (ditching the Roman numerals) for the time being - is set to hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026, and we may now have a better idea of what to expect from this latest instalment in the long-running slasher franchise.
Though no major plot details are revealed, if you'd rather know as little as possible about the movie going in, here's your spoiler warning.
According to scooper Mttsh, Scream 7 "will have two main storylines, one about Sid and her friends from the neighborhood, and the second one about Sid's teen daughter Taylor (could be a codename) and her friends. Each of them will have to deal with Ghostface."

One of the best recent horror comedy movies of recent years was 2019's "Ready or Not" -- and now it's coming back for round two.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that a sequel, currently bearing the apt title "Ready or Not 2," is in development. Samara Weaving, who starred in the original as unlikely heroine Grace, will return alongside directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett and executive producer Chad Villela. Earlier this year, Weaving had teased that she was "all in" for a "Ready or Not" sequel.
In "Ready or Not," Grace marries into the old money Le Domas family via their golden boy son Alex (Mark O'Brien). As part of a family tradition, Grace and her new in-laws have to play a game, chosen by random card draw. Grace draws Hide and Seek, the unluckiest card of them all. You see, the Le Domas ancestors made a pact with the demonic Mr.

Just a few weeks after Samara Weaving declared her interest in sequel to 2019’s Ready or Not, word comes that the Radio Silence horror flick is officially getting a follow-up…and we’re definitely ready!
While no details over plot or release schedule were announced, the Ready or Not sequel will bring back Guy Busick and R. After months of speculation, it’s official: Samara Weaving and Radio Silence will both be back for anticipated sequel Ready or Not 2, per Deadline.
The news was announced by Radio Silence at a Searchlight screening for their 2019 fan-favorite film. Production and release info will be announced at a later date.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed Ready or Not. In addition to Samara Weaving, the cast included Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell.
The first film introduced a mythology wherein the wealthy Le Domas family has made a deal with the devil, one that requires them to take part in bizarre – and deadly – wedding night traditions. There’s much that can be done with the premise going forward, even if the first movie ended with Weaving’s Grace massacring the family and burning down their estate.

Searchlight Pictures has announced plans to make a sequel to the 2019 horror-comedy film “Ready or Not.” The announcement came during an event celebrating the studio’s 30th anniversary, where the directors and cast shared details about the upcoming project. “Ready or Not” told the story of a bride joining her wealthy husband’s strange family tradition, and received positive reviews for combining dark humor with suspenseful scenes.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will return to direct the sequel. They previously directed “Ready or Not” and went on to helm popular horror movies like last year’s “Scream” reboot. Samara Weaving also agreed to reprise her lead role as Grace, the bride from the first movie. In an interview, Weaving said she was eager to revisit the twisted world of the Le Domas family.
Searchlight Pictures is putting together an experienced production team including the original producers and executives who oversaw the first film.

It feels like we have a steady stream of scream queens right now, with the likes of Mia Goth, Samara Weaving and Melissa Barrera all eligible for a crown. But we don’t have many going for the scream king title. Really, the biggest name that comes to mind is Finn Wolfhard, but even he isn’t sure he’s deserving.
When People asked him about the so-called “scream king” designation, Finn Wolfward replied, “That’s such a huge compliment….I’ve never heard that before. You’re the first to say it, but that’s really nice. I’m not sure. I don’t know if I’ve done enough horror movies yet.” This coming from the guy who seems to have made a pretty good living so far in plenty of horror and sci-fi fare, including the It movies, the most recent Ghostbusters entries and Floria Sigismondi’s The Turning.

Columbia Pictures’ Saturday Night from Jason Reitman debuted at $265k, a great $53k per theater that’s the second-best limited opening of the year, and the best since June when Kinds Of Kindness also opened in 5 theaters (to a $75k PTA). It’s been a long a slightly dower wait for something to pop.
Saturday Night made $108K on Friday, $88K on Saturday and a projected $69K on Sunday in LA and New York. Expands Oct. 4 before opening wide on Oct 11 and looks well set up for a nice theatrical run with strong reviews and word of mouth since premiering at Telluride and Toronto.

For years Samara Weaving has been one of the most fascinating actors in the horror genre. Every time she shows up, there’s an infectious energy that makes her pop off the screen. And she has a knack for picking cool projects. I love it when a movie has a gimmick that it takes through its entire running time. Weaving’s latest venture, Azrael, follows a society post-Rapture, where it’s been deemed a sin to speak. So the film is almost entirely barren of dialogue and really hinges on its performance from lead, Samara Weaving. I loved the film and you can check out my review. The story is a little stereotypical but its the execution that really impresses. The world-building is fantastic and is a great playground for Weaving’s Azrael to exist in.

Indie distributors are fretting about the current marketplace, specifically a glut of films vying for precious theater space and hard-to-snare audiences who, with exceptions of course, still seems mostly willing to come out for big ticket films.
While there are fewer wide studio releases than pre-Covid, theaters are giving them more space, up to 60%-70% of their real estate, a few indies execs said.
Meanwhile, it’s become cheaper to distribute films, which may be why new firms keep popping up to test the waters and in some cases open their movies on hundreds of screens, perhaps without a commensurate marketing effort.
“There is a lot of stuff being released, but nothing is performing,” says one indie distribution executive. Films like Deadpool or Beetlejuice Beetlejuice work, “but everything else is a crapshoot.
“Whether consumers are going to movies other than the big ones has been the question, and still is.

Did we need E.L. Katz’s Azrael to hammer home the point that Samara Weaving is a formidable final girl? Yes, and no. Since Weaving left such an unforgettable impact as the unyielding heroine in Ready or Not, it’s sort of a struggle to shake that image when you try to fully immerse yourself in the world of Azrael. What helps though, is Azrael’s decidedly peculiar world-building. The narrative being almost completely devoid of any dialogue already meant we’d have to do without exposition. The less you are told, the closer you look.

In this week’s episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo has no words to describe the apocalyptic thriller “Azrael.” The film takes place in a silent world where a devout matriarchal society relentlessly pursues a young woman, Azrael, who has escaped their captivity. Once recaptured, she faces a grim fate—destined to be sacrificed to an ancient force lurking in the wilderness. The E.L. Katz (“Teacup”) film stars Samara Weaving, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Katarina Unt, and more.

Mayhem, Ready or Not, and Scream VI star Samara Weaving continues her hot streak in horror with Azrael, a dialogue-free survival horror movie that gets biblical with the carnage.
IFC Films released Azrael in theaters today, September 27.
Set in a post-Rapture world, the latest from director E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills) and writer Simon Barrett stars Weaving as Azrael, a woman on the run with her lover (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) from a murderous cult. Humans aren’t the only threat she’ll face in this intense horror gauntlet set over the course of 24 hours.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Samara Weaving ahead of the film’s release, where the actor talked about the challenges of filming this particularly grueling action horror movie, as well as her trademark scream, and why she keeps coming back to horror.

No, Samara Weaving is not up against zombies in her new film Azrael––it’s more complicated than that.
Her latest film, from director E.L. Katz and writer Simon Barrett, is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows a religious cult who have all removed their own vocal cords. In doing so, this means the narrative is almost entirely dialogue-free.
Weaving leads the pack as Azrael, someone who once had ties to this cult but is trying to get away from them alongside her close companion, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett’s Kenan.

Azrael, the latest from director E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills) and writer Simon Barrett, takes the golden rule of showing, not telling, to heart. Samara Weaving takes on the title role in this survival horror movie set in a post-Rapture world where speaking is forbidden. It makes for a fascinating experiment in dialogue-free horror, where most the world building is left to the viewer to discern amidst minimalist storytelling and propulsive action.

Azrael is terrified and on edge, constantly looking over her shoulder as her lover tries to soothe her. They can’t say what they’re running from, though, as the cross-shaped scars on their throats indicate speaking is an impossibility for either. Samara Weaving excels in post-apocalyptic horror where humanity has renounced words – which might have been useful to decipher what’s going on
Here is a post-apocalyptic feature that works well as an exercise in tension-release horror-movie mechanics and features an admirably expressive, athletic, and entirely wordless lead performance from rising genre fare “it” girl Samara Weaving.
Text splashed on screen before the title explains that this is all taking place sometime after “the Rapture” has thinned the world population, and some of those who remain have renounced the “sinful” use of speech. Weaving’s protagonist, who is apparently called Azrael, is living in a forest with her beau (Nathan Steward-Jarrett), surviving on who knows what and living in patched rags, when they are captured by similarly silent zealots. Those guys, who still have cars in the Mad Max tradition, tie Azrael to a chair as sacrifice for hominid-like zombie-demon-monsters with...

More family films hitting cinemas this weekend with DreamWorks Animation/Universal’s feature take of Peter Brown’s New York Times bestseller, The Wild Robot, however, unlike Paramount/Hasbro’s Transformers One last weekend, this one is mom/female leaning. Opening weekend at 3,900 theaters is pegged at $20M+.
That’s around the average start for an animated major studio movie in September and not that far from where we saw Transformers One last weekend with $24.6M. Also keep in mind that it’s original animation, and that’s always a lower bar start than established feature cartoons.
Wild Robot will have the vast majority of premium screens with 380 Imax hubs with all showtimes up to primetime. After that time, Lionsgate’s Megalopolis from Francis Ford Coppola will have evening Imax showtimes in key metropolitan locations, repping around 200 of its 1,700 theater count. Overall, for Wild Robot, there’s close to 900 Plf screens including all Dolby Cinema,...

Samara Weaving is a horror movie icon. She burst onto the scene in and as The Babysitter, where she played the leader of a demonic cult masquerading as a sweet and upstanding resident in the suburbs. She later went on to cameo in the sequel to that Netflix release, alongside another budding horror enthusiast, Jenna Ortega. Weaving teamed up with Steven Yeun in Mayhem where they played two employees trying to resist the effects of an experimental virus that was causing everyone in their workplace to go berserk. And even if these films went under the radar of horror fans, everyone sat up and took notice when she took on a rich and murderous family in Ready or Not. She followed that up with the deliciously entertaining Guns Akimbo, alongside Daniel Radcliffe. She showed up for a brief cameo in Scream VI too. And now, she is here in and as Azrael,...

Plot: In a world where no one speaks, a devout female-led community hunts down a young woman who has escaped imprisonment. Recaptured, Azrael is due to be sacrificed to an ancient evil in the wilderness, but fights for her own survival.
Review: I’d consider Samara Weaving to be one of the best actresses working in horror. Her work in Ready or Not, The Babysitter, and Scream 6 has cemented her as a standout in the genre. Her natural charisma always shines through in her work. And she always picks such interesting roles that I’m not surprised to see her choosing one entirely lacking dialogue. But Azrael is more than just its gimmick, providing a badass new heroine and an intriguing world that I’d love to see more of.

Five years ago, genre regular Samara Weaving starred in a very cool horror comedy called Ready or Not, which was directed by Radio Silence members Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who went on to make the two most recent Scream sequels and the “Dracula’s daughter” movie Abigail. Earlier this year, it was announced that a sequel is now moving forward, with Escape Room director Adam Robitel taking the helm of a Ready or Not 2 that Radio Silence, still on board as producers, has promised will be “an absolute banger.” Now, during an interview with ComicBook.com, Weaving has confirmed that she is “all in” on the sequel.

Back in April, reports did the rounds that a sequel to 2019 horror hit Ready or Not was in the works with Adam Robitel in talks to direct.
The original movie's directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (aka Radio Silence), would later confirm to Entertainment Weekly that the project is in the very early stages of development.
“It’s getting figured out. The actress recently said she’s “all in” to reprise her bridal final girl Grace Le Domas for a potential sequel to her 2019 movie Ready or Not, which also helped launch Radio Silence directorial duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin.

Director Adam Wingard is said to be getting back to his roots with the upcoming action-thriller Onslaught, and THR reports this week that Adria Arjona (Hit Man) is in talks to star.
The actress is in “final negotiations” to both star in the film and executive produce.
A24 has picked up the package, with Wingard directing and frequent creative partner Simon Barrett writing. The duo made a name for themselves with The Guest and You’re Next.
THR details, “Many details for Onslaught are being kept in an underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller. The scope is said to more in line with Wingard’s earlier movies, which were all original creations, before he went off and made the big-budget spectacle hits Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong.”
“According to sources,” the outlets report this week continues, “Adria Arjona will play a mother...
