"Locke & Key" is almost back, y'all. The third and final season is dropping on August 10, which means that we'll get one last trip to Matheson — and one last adventure with the Locke family's magical keys. Since the third season of "Locke & Key" finished filming before the second one premiered, showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill were able to drop some hints about the show's final season during season 2's promotions last year. They were understandably vague when...

With its third and final season quickly approaching, "Locke & Key" fans might be worried about the Locke family's fate. Even though Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode managed to secure an impressive victory at the end of season 2, it looks like the kids will be facing an even scarier foe soon — which isn't exactly reassuring us of their safety.
In light of this season's particularly high stakes (and last season's bloodbath), we can't help but turn back to showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill's fall interview with Collider, in which they revealed their process behind character deaths and hinted towards their goals for season...

More than 400 prominent female writers and showrunners sent a letter today to the heads of the major studios expressing their “grave concerns” about the companies’ “lack of specific production protocols” to protect their workers in anti-abortion states.
The letters, which state that “it is unacceptable to ask any person to choose between their human rights and their employment,” also demanded that the companies “pledge to discontinue all political donations to anti-abortion candidates and political action committees immediately.”
Deadline has obtained a copy of the letter to Netflix, which organizers say was sent to top executives at Amazon Studios, AMC Networks, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, , and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The letters, whose signers include Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Amy Schumer, Marta Kauffman, Callie Khouri, WGA West vice president Michele Mulroney and WGA West secretary-treasurer Betsy Thomas, said that “this situation raises basic matters of equality, health, and safety in the workplace.

Netflix’s “Locke and Key” will end after its upcoming third season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the comic books of the same name, “Locke and Key” follows the three Locke children who, following their father’s death, move from Seattle to his family home in Massachusetts. They soon discover magical keys hidden throughout the house — appropriately called Keyhouse — that can be used to unlock secret doors. However, a demonic presence is in search of the keys as well. Season 3 of the fantasy horror series is set to release on the streamer this year.

Exclusive: The upcoming third season of Netflix’s Locke & Key will be its last. But fans of the supernatural thriller based on the Idw comic books by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez should not fret — they will get a proper conclusion since Season 3 was conceived as the show’s final chapter. In fact, I hear that, following the breakout success of Locke & Key‘s ten-episode first season, Netflix approached the series’ creative team with a plan for a three-season run consisting of a 10-episode second season and an eight-episode third season. That fit the vision of Locke & Key executive producers/co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill for how to tell the story and when to wrap it.

There will be much more trauma for the Locke family before this story comes to a close!
Netflix has dropped the full-length trailer for Locke & Key Season 2, and it teases a lot of big moments for the family.
Dodge is still well and truly a part of the story, taking over bodies and causing a lot of mayhem for everyone concerned.
But Nina Locke has primarily been in the dark about what the kids have been getting up to, and it looks like she'll be getting some answers throughout the second season.
Nina has been none the wiser about many things, but it's clear she can't shake the feeling that more than she's being led to believe is happening.
It also begs the following question:
How will she react to everything that has happened?
"After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home,...

Locke & Key has only aired one season to date, after premiering this past February, but Netflix clearly has enough faith in the show to renew it for a third run. The good news arrived today, as the supernatural thriller series, based on the hit comic books from Joe “Stephen King’s son” Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, comes to the end of production of its second season in Toronto. With the renewal in the bag, the next outing will start filming early in 2021, ahead of it landing on the streamer at an unspecified date.

When Daily Dead took part in a Locke & Key roundtable call earlier this year, co-showrunner (along with Carlton Cuse) Meredith Averill said that they have "...stories for a few seasons to come percolating in our brains...", and it looks like that statement is becoming a reality, because not only was the show renewed for a second season back in March, it's now been renewed for a third season by Netflix before the second season has even premiered.
Multiple outlets are reporting the renewal news, including The Hollywood Reporter, along with the announcement that Meredith Averill has signed a deal with Netflix for "TV and other projects."
Here's what co-showrunner Cuse had to say about the season 3 renewal (via THR):
"We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in season 3, and could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix.

Fans of Netflix’s Locke & Key rejoice, as the streaming giant has officially confirmed that the show will return for a second season (watch the announcement in the tweet below). The series, based on the long-running comics of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, quickly picked up a dedicated fanbase on the platform and was always expected to be renewed for more.
The news will no doubt be a vindication for showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, who finally managed to get the project off the ground on Netflix after a prolonged and painful gestation period. This incarnation of the show actually began development as a Hulu series, only for them to decide to pass on it and Netflix to scoop it up. Given the positive reaction to the adaptation, Hulu may now be regretting their decision.

Locke & Key Season 2 has been officially ordered by Netflix.
In a move seemingly fueled by optimism amid unfathomable uncertainty around the world, Netflix just said “aloha” (/insidejoke) to coronavirus concerns, giving a second season order to its recent hit supernatural seres, Locke & Key. The renewal will see the return of the show’s creative coalition, co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, who have been working on scripts ahead of time for Season 2, especially as prospects started to look promising after its 10-episode inaugural season hit Netflix back on February 7.

When Daily Dead took part in a Locke & Key roundtable call earlier this year, co-showrunner (along with Carlton Cuse) Meredith Averill said that they have "...stories for a few seasons to come percolating in our brains...", and now one of those future seasons has become a reality, as Netflix has officially renewed the adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez's beloved Idw graphic novels for a second season.
The renewal news was announced on Locke & Key's official Twitter account (see below). A premiere date and episode count for the second season (the first season consists of 10 episodes) have yet to be revealed, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are announced.
In the meantime, check out highlights from the "Inside Keyhouse" press event and Sara Clements' review of the first season, and in case you missed it, Castlevania was recently renewed for a fourth season by Netflix.
