Each and every year a Frightfest there always seems to be an overriding theme that ties a lot of the films screeening there – be they in the main or discovery screens. This year the theme, at least from the films I’ve seen so far, would seem to be strong women. Be it the strong women that take charge of proceedings in films like The Sand, Stung and Night of the Living Deb or the strong “final girls” in films like Last Girl Standing and this, Final Girl.

Abigail Breslin is sure turning into a genre actress lately. It seems like after Zombieland, I’ve seen her in more & more genre films like Haunter, The Call and Maggie. She is also going to appear on Fox’s upcoming genre television show, “Scream Queens”.

Final Girl is a film that I believe I saw a promo trailer earlier this year or maybe even last year and thought it looked interesting. The story also comes from Stephen Scarlata, who was one of the producers of the wonderful documentary, Jodorowsky’s Dune. We all remember this guy from The Hunger Games, right? Well, guess what, Alexander Ludwig has a completely new job! He will star next to previously announced Abigail Breslin in the upcoming indie project titled Final Girl, which comes from photographer-turned-director Tyler Shields, who’s making his directorial debut with this one.

Not much is known about Final Girl, except that Adam Prince is behind the script and that the story comes from Steve Scarlata, Alejandro Seri and Johnny Silver.

The movie will center on a girl (logically) who, after being dropped into the woods and hunted by a group of teenage boys, turns the tables by hunting them.

Guess that Breslin is on board to play that girl, and as for Ludwig’s character – still no details.

Rob Carliner, Jeff Kwatinetz and Joseph and Jack Nasser will produce the pic through Nasser’s Ngn Productions and Kwatinetz and Carliner’s Prospect Park.

It’s been seven years since Steven Shainberg last directed a film, the mostly forgotten Nicole Kidman vehicle "Fur," but it appears from a new press release that he has finally locked down his next project.

“The Big Shoe” finds Shainberg (“Secretary”) in familiar territory as the film is described as “a sexy comedic drama” that will follow Jim Sturgess (“Across The Universe,” “One Day”) as a gifted shoe designer, Nate, who is forced to break free from a family who want to cheapen his art for their own commercial gain. Susan Sarandon, who’s been getting busy lately, co-stars as his overbearing mother who tries to lure him back to work by hiring a psychotherapist and a “muse.” The project was linked to Joaquin Phoenix and Mia Wasikowska a couple of years back, and this feels like a little bit of a downgrade, at least when it comes to the leading man.

Well, Abigail Breslin ain’t afraid to mix it up, that’s for sure. From her awesome, Oscar-nominated turn in Little Miss Sunshine, to Zombieland to The Santa Clause 3, she seems to be avoiding typecasting at all costs and good for her. Canadian photographer and director Tyler Shields released an eye catching new sales one-sheet for his slasher flick Final Girl, and though he's still in the process of getting the project together, we can't help but show you guys this gory bit of eye candy.

From Studio City Pictures and penned by Steve Scarlata, Alejandro Seri and Johnny Silver, Final Girl "follows a pack of feral teenage boys who choose the wrong girl to be the victim of their final ‘initiation.’"
